This song was a huge deal when it came out. Its was her comeback. Her declaration of independence after coming out of a very public relationship with her celeb husband.
It was empowering for women to see her rise up like this.
This song came out the yr my parents got divorced and my mom was in her 20s, left alone with 2 small kids, no money, no house and not even a HS diploma.
    So this really hit home

Sweet, young twins! It's so odd and touching to see you reacting to this queen without knowing her story. She survived serious abuse and exploitation, and went on to continue her career as a solo musician and reclaim her power. These lyrics can only be understood in the context of her life and story. She suffered a great deal because of the person she loved, because she had a big heart. I don't think they truly represent what she believes, but most likely reflect what she felt and thought for a period of time.

She was in her ear,y 40’s when this song hit.. She was the fire behind the dynamic duo Ike and Tina Turner review in the 50s 60s and 70s. After a long abusive relationship with her husband Ike turner and she broke away and made a name for herself in the 80s and 90s as a solo artist. She toured up until the late 90s. She is retired in Stockholm Sweden I believe in Germany. She gave up for US citizenship. She’s 82 years old as she is battling stomach cancer. He was a farewell documentary on Showtime about her life. In 1992 the movie “what’s love got to do with it“ starring Angela Bassett as Tene and Lawrence Fishburne is ache garnered academy award. It was a movie based on a true story for life. Aretha Franklin was the queen of soul, but Tina Turner was the queen of rock ‘n’ roll.

You will LOVE Proud Mary, her most iconic song; find a video of her dancing, not just singing, Proud Mary, because it has been replicated by many artists and also pop culture parodies for years afterward. Tina Turner is a goddess -- and a true survivor. She was brutally abused by her husband, Ike, for many years, but she overcame the violence. She still has trauma from that time even as an old woman today (a recent documentary explores this) but she survived and became powerful and beloved for her music, her dignity, her grace, and her individuality.

Tina wears wigs, iconic beautiful wigs that she in fact makes herself.
In the 1970's she used some bleach to color her hair and the chemical mixture disagreed with her and fried her hair so it never grew back, at least to a degree that Tina was happy with....so ever since then she makes her own wigs.
Her early career that is her real hair later it's wigs.
Personally I love her wigs, especially the one she wears in this video it reminds me of a lions mane....absolutely gorgeous!
Love the video love the show!

Omg. I never knew her "hair" backstory. In a way, like Michael Jackson, a freak mishap for each left them wearing wigs no matter their choice. She DOES rock them though!
