  • This may be the toughest joint of all to caulk 😬
    Steps for successful caulking:
    1. Scrape out as much grout at ceiling joint as possible
The deeper the groove, the better caulk joint you will have
    2. Repaint ceiling before applying silicone sealant
This took 2 coats to cover the dark residue from grout 😄
    3. Cut & keep caulking tip small
I recommend starting out with cutting tip 1/8"-3/16"
    4. Use 100% silicone for a long lasting joint
My favorite matching grout caulk is Laticrete Latasil
In this project we used Twilight Blue Silicone - bit.ly/3VDlaY7
    5. With a steady hand slowly apply caulking with a good caulking gun 👍 Easier said than done 😄 But If you can caulk the ceiling joint without having to tool the caulking the easier this task will be 👊

So much more to good looking and proper caulking than just squeezing a gun. Especially the diy weekend warriors don't know that. If the joint underneath is small (max 1/8) caulking is a breeze. If the gap is any larger, which for me coming after other people that installed tiles etc always is 1/4 or even greater, then "let the force be with you". For DIYer might be worth spending time and taping the work area. Another important thing is to have a fresh tube. All caulking has expiration date. Not many know that. And if you come across tube that was laying around in someone's hot/cold truck, then returned to the store and you bought it ... better have prozac ready. 🤣 Go BRT, Go!

To mutch brush action hire, I have learned and prefere to tape and go with roler, the texture is then the same. Other wise like hire I expect thet there is visible difference between the roler and brush.

Question: that last bit of painting you did at the end of the video, will that not flash? I’ve always been afraid of painting bits later fearing that it will look splotchy and flash

Caulking was completely dried before painting. It does happen sometime. I do typically do 2 coats. Having good paint helps

Did you paint the face of the metal edging at the end or come back and scrape it?

I love 💕 the long back wall shelf. Where can I get one?? And, how would I have it installed?? We're getting ready to begin installing tile since the cement board is up & would love this long shelf. 🙏🏼💕

@@BathroomRemodelingTeacher ☺️Thank you. But ... that's a complete tub/wall unit😞. I'm replacing all the tile around my porcelain tub so that won't work. Do you know of any long shelves made of tile that could replicate something similar?

You would have to build the wall out. Then for the sill you can purchase a threshold (usually quartz) from lowes/depot/floor&decor…etc

Quick question, Could you use the same caulk for metal trim and baseboards as used for the tile to ceiling transition?

    • @BathroomRemodelingTeacher
      @BathroomRemodelingTeacher  Месяц назад +1

You could, but I wouldn't advise it. This is a 100% silicone. So it wouldn't be able to paint it

Some are paintable, takes searching for it but never matching grout silicone will be paintable…silicone over baseboard or where metal meets drywall is overkill and very expensive as well.

Please don’t use 100% silicone against any painted surface, the next guy that paints the ceiling won’t be able to cut in the corner since 100% silicone is not paintable. This applies to countertops too.

If you spray a shellac primer on silicone. It can be painted over . Used zinseer bin spray a few days ago.
