@@howibecame__ I particularly got a better timeline on the journey of drug use. I knew of a period of straight-edge, but didn't know that it was sandwiched between the experimentation. I think you two did a good job putting a lot of the details in a chronological order, especially when also discussing the musical journey and combining that with the personal life. As for Part Two, I have a few questions: -What have the milestone gigs taught Frank or what have they allowed him to reflect on? (Olympics, Gig 2000 on DVD, 50 States in 50 Days, upcoming World Record Attempt in the UK, etc.) -Everyone asks what Frank has learned from meeting your heroes/famous "coworkers" (Craig Finn, Billy Bragg, Converge, etc), I'd like to know that but also know what Frank thinks those people may have learned from him/his story. -What does the future of Frank Turner's discography look like? Any genres he wants to tackle that he hasn't been able to fully piece together yet? And is he still open to band-work like Mingle Harde? -Last, but not least, we need to fill some gaps in the vinyl department - Million Dead's A Song to Ruin, Eating Before Swimming, and maybe some old Kneejerk. Can this be achieved? Maybe a crowdfunded attempt?
Not ashamed to say I didn’t really pay attention to Frank’s music until a couple of years ago, but in the lead up to his support slot for MCR in Cornwall I delved deep as I always try to when going to a gig featuring artists I’m not familiar with. And what I found was one of the most down to earth, genuine, lovely and most talented people I’ve ever (not actually) met. He inspired me to stop pointlessly playing Metallica guitar covers in my bedroom to no one and go to a fucking open mic night and play there instead 😂 The same year I started listening to him he became my top artist on Spotify, I immediately bought tickets to his Falmouth gig last year and honestly I don’t think I would’ve appreciated him as much as I do now if I’d of cottoned on to him at a much younger age. Now being almost 30 my tastes have matured and I’ve experienced enough of life to really connect to what he has to say. I don’t know if I have a question for him (if you’re offering that is!), but can you just tell him how much I fucking love and appreciate him for just being true to himself and what he believes in! 🤟
What a lovely message to read. And what a journey through Frank’s music. It sounds like you found it at the perfect time. And respect for getting out there and getting on that mic. It’s overlooked how much energy and and determination it takes to make a change like that. Love to hear it. We are taking questions for Frank! But that is also a great message we’ll pass on. Charles
Frank’s life story is so interesting. Especially more so with the release of Undefeated, and specifically the songs Ceasefire and Somewhere Inbetween. He talks about his experiences with boarding school, bullying, issues with his dad, and being a misfit teenager in a fairly blasé way, but it’s fairly evident listening to those songs and listening to him talk that they were quite traumatic experiences that probably contributed to his substance misuse later on. More so when you consider the abuse he’s received online for being Eton-educated/a posh boy etc. I hope he’s able to find some validation on how he’s feeling on the topic, without feeling the need to rationalise and justify what happened to him. I don’t think I have any questions, but I really enjoyed this interviews and Frank’s very honest answers.
New to the podcast, came because of frank turner. Think I'll stay, you guys were great. I'm a massive fan of his and I've been lucky enough to see him live 5 times now in various places (hands down the best live performer I've seen, and I've seen a lot). I wanted to ask where his favourite place to perform is. He's been all over the world at this point but I saw him most recently at a festival up north and he seemed to genuinely have the best time. Got me thinking about it 🤔 Also, which of his albums does he like best? Mans written A LOT of music (Feel free to just pick 1 question 😂)
What a great comment! Thank you The Cellery ❤️ we would love you to stay 💫 That is a really interesting question. Maybe it is the North! We will find out… And great q about the fav album.. let’s see.. If you think of any more, fire away, we’re noting all these down for part 2…
So I noted Frank first picked up a guitar aged eleven but a sure if that was 1993. I say this because I saw him play at St David’s Hall in Cardiff, Walesin 2019. I graduated on that stage in 1992 i was part of the Ents crew working for bands. I had promoted the band and the Ents manager booked the band for our for our graduation ball. It was my stepdad’s band and he’d roped me into doing backing vocals in the recording studio. I jumped up onto stage to do my bit, the bouncers knew me and let me climb us saying they’d like to see where this goes. But as a one time plugger for the band, featuring on recording, being manager of the band for just that gig. And getting paid for it as well as graduating; I wore a lot of hats that day. If someone had told me their is young boy Frank who will rock your world but you’ll be fifty before you find his music. I would have said who is he, can he play guitar yet, would he like to join the band onstage? That was probably the only occasion I could have pulled that off. We would have corrupted him too early I think. But still not sure if he had picked up a guitar by summer 1992.
Thanks Dunky, we love Frank too. And you’re absolutely right, I have 0 knowledge on guitars but I just googled what you shared and it looks very nice. So thanks Charles
Great interview thanks to both interviewers and interviewee. Thanks.
Such a great interview. Love how open Frank is and sheds a little more light on some of the gaps that some of us long-time fans have.
Thank you very much! Oh now we’re interested, what were the gaps we shed light on?

Interesting podcast! Big fan of Frank Turner and love his candid answers.
Thank you Ashley! We’ll be recording part 2 of Frank’s life story soon. Any questions you’d like to ask him?
@@howibecame__ You’re welcome! Oh wow how cool! I’d like to know what his creative process is for writing new music. Thank you 😊
Great question! We will ask it!

39:52 Really wanted him to quote Eulogy there, not Frank Sinatra. 😅
I would love for you to ask him about how it is to produce his wife, Jess Guise's music. Also, a Boudicat shoutout 🐈⬛
Thank you for the question and shout out request haha!
