My Name is Max and I film while driving cars. No matter if they are old, fast, loud or electric. They need to be special! With several onboard cams, I record everything important to show you High-Speed-Runs, Acceleration tests ( 0-100 kph / 0-200 kph / 100-200 kph / 200-300 kph ) and test drives on German Autobahn or Road. Please note, Germany is the country of "no speed limit" highways. So in some places, it's allowed to drive very fast. But please don't try this if you are not an experienced driver !! The MB 190D 2.0 was specially popular among taxi drivers in Germany and also in other European countries thanks to their reliability and low fuel consumption. No turbocharger, no electronics or useless amenities.....it was relatively cheap to maintain. Yeah, the car was a bit sluggish, but was tough as nuts. They do not make them like that anymore.

There was a taxi company in the town I lived in in the UK that drove them, they charged a little extra to be driven in a Mercedes and it was worth it.
My fathers taxi in Rochdale in the late 90’s went from 120,000 miles to 680,000 miles in 7 years…. Only major work was 1 clutch being a manual… cam chain so no timing belt to change …… I reckon it got close to 1,000,000 though I’d love to know if it really did…

Our w124 200d went 180 without going downhill. And indeed, the engine sound was agonizingly loud. Best car ever, driving always full throttle fully loaded, fuel consumption of 6.7L/100km and very comfortable.
The guys who built this car in the production line should be found and rewarded with 100€ a nice "Kuchen" and a big thank you.

@@guccidan2026 old mercedes have a very special charm. its not about ventialted seats or 4 zone climate control its about the felling of driving a very very solid car and experiencing driving itself and not the amaneties of ur car.
Nemesis Gaming I have a c32 amg and it's the most solid vehicle i've ever owned and by all means isn't old.. however having cold ac and nice music definitely improves the ride ;)
Finally those shifting marks I II III on the speedo make sense without the rpm meter!

32 yr old car, bare bones, no after market aerodynamic add ons, no performance exhaust or air intake, no stiffened suspension, no nitrous oxide but pushing the speedo beyond capacity in real world, warts n all conditions.

Love old mercs. When younger I remember being fascinated by going in old taxis that had done 800,000 km and felt like new, as a passenger at least. Apparently in Africa the 190d has been run to 3m km quite often, and on the original engine

It‘s just because the 190 series looks exactly like a car should look - unlike factory new models which either look like a trashcan or a spaceship on wheels.
The om601 2.0d is already quite efficient. I have a 190d with a 5 speed as well and mine does around 21km/l. Even for a modern car that is reasonable.
But talking about efficiency, if the engine for some reason trashes, I think a swap with the latest M16A from Suzuki can be interesting. Those have incredible efficiency (5.0l/100km) in a vitara for example. Especially considering that is just an old fashioned cast iron 1.6 with 120hp
These cars get around 35mpg m8
My brother have a mercedes 190d with a 2.5 engine that car is just awesome it have 500.000+ kilometer on it but still runs and runs
These mercs from these times, did exactly what they promissed, nothing less. My old 123 automatic 240d did the factory speed, after beeing a taxi....with the original engine! Amazing.
Komplett anderes Gefühl wenn du voll draufdrückst und einfach mit dem Verkehr mitfährst. Dir wird trotzdem nicht langweilig weil du aufpassen muss dass du nicht bremst weil du dir jeden kmh lang und hart erkämpft hast.

I have this car. 1992, OM601 engine, but it's a 4-speed manual. The max speed is around 140. Very fun to drive.

I had a 190D 2.5 (94Hp) version and it was a lot of fun! Light car, quite torquey and it sounds sweet because it's a 5 cylinder. You should opt for the 2.5TD model 126hp and a ton of torque or a 2.3-16/2.5-16 but they are quite rare and expensive. 2.5D are bulletproof by the way. I got mine from my grandma and it had 600000km on the clock before my brother killed it and that was with bad maintenance

Speed Freak That's true, the car that I currently own is the first semi high horsepower car that I have owned, it's a BMW 330Ci with 231hp but before that I had a 316i with 115hp and the 190D with 94hp. Both of them were RWD and a load of fun, especially in the twisties and on some dirt roads! Don't need 600hp to have fun

It's 72hp, I have same, it can accelerate like this with first 3 gears. With 3rd gear it can go 110 km/h. But there are downhill, it helps a lot.
@@shreyraj3054 no remap needed. On those old diesels you can just give the motor more diesel by turning a screw on the Injection pump.
hp doesn't mean shit, it's a diesel so torque talks.

These 80's Mercedes cars are really timeless and legend cars. Using them long years and hundreds of thousand km's without any big problem....
Picks up speed quite well for 72 hp in a heavy car like that, holds top speed well too, a nice motor really

Brilliant engine and car. I had 190D predecessor, the C250TD with OM605... If London ULEZ wasn't here I would still have her... 242000 miles and she ran with absolutely no problem, never leave me stranded from home, and stoll hit her top speed of 130mph. I miss her so much. :(

This car doesn't like driving on uphill roads but it definitely has a smoother ride than a lot of 2000s cars.
My father had one. It pulled well above 100 km/h, steering was somewhat unstable. he had a 90 liter tank and it used maximum of 6,6 liter when droven to the floor.

LOOOOK AT THE SPEEED
180 km/h downhill. Only 160 km/h if it is slightly uphill. On a flat road, 170 max. But the GPS speedometer is not displayed to confirm the real speed. Please find a way to display the smartphone's GPS speedometer too!
The last gear was built for the Autobahn. So even low hp could get on a high top speed (after a while). That was and still is Mercedes' pet passion!

I loved my 190 D Drove around Germany for fun. Back then 1 Liter Diesel less then 50 Euro ct. consumption was around 6l/100 km.
