There are few albums that can evoke such powerful feelings of bleakness and immenseness from the first riff on. It's like seeing the fire giant Surtr slowly falling down onto your village. Rarely do lyrics and music fit so well together. More than fifteen years ago I couldn't really bear listening to grunts and screams, but those first two sentences of As Fire Swept Clean The Earth changed all that. They started my love of death and black metal, which is now 90% of what I listen to. Damn, I love this song.
This album next to Emperor In the Nightside Eclipse is best , such a talent to create this masterpiece ^^ . There are lots of other albums but not many come close to these gems :) .
The change from the previous album is incredible. Such complex riffs, song structure, just a joy to listen to after the sometimes too loose and experimental predecessor.
