It was nice seeing this video, I still go to the mall 3+ times a week just for golds, I work at a nearby chick-fil-a and a lot of management who currently work at mine used to work at the one located in the mall.
Thanks for posting. I appreciated the walk-through and narration about old stores that have come and gone in the mall. Too bad our train garden was not open during your visit. These places look so completely alien to me as an Australian. We have malls, but their business model is nothing like over there, hence the success. You two are "extraordinary guys, doing the most ordinary things!" 😂 🇦🇺
I used to live in Glen Burnie, MD until 2016, and have been in Marley Station Mall on several occasions. I remember a couple of the stores that were there: @3:25 - The bookstore you mentioned used to be Waldenbooks. Bankrupt in 2011, the store was briefly replace by a space themed mini-golf course. @4:40 - That used to be a "As Seen On TV" store. They used to sell mail-order stuff advertised on TV, like Eagle Eyes Navigator glasses. @5:50 - Just past Gold's Gym, to the left of Macy's, used to be a NASCAR fan store where fans can get NASCAR stuff like models, flags, posters, etc. They even had a fairly large slot car track in it. Surprised to see a Sears still there, unless they haven't gotten around to boarding it up yet.
Hey I was there in June! Surreal to see an exploration video of a place I've recently been to. As a born kid of 1996, I agree it's so dang sad malls like this are losing steam. People should realize buying is half the purpose malls were made for. Basking in its atmosphere and applying yourself to the unique setting is the point. And even with the convenience of buying online, malls could easily have things you can't get ordered
God damn, Marley Station Mall. This was *the* spot circa late 90s/early 2000s. It could get pretty wild on a Friday night. Fights in the parking lot with big crowds and all kinds of drama. Does anyone remember when mall management banned all the juggalos so they stood out on Ritchie Highway with protest signs?!
I was here yesterday makes me sad to see this mall empty I remember going a lot back when I was a teenager and use to hangout with friends 37 now and it’s not the same.
This was a fabulous mall when it opened, with a Williams Sonoma, a Macy's with a really nice restaurant, a Hecht Company and most of the other usual mall chains. It's not clear why it failed so completely.
I used to take the kids here at least once a week just to get out of the house. Are the hallways heated? The last time I was there, it was colder in the halls than in the stores. Another place I took the kids was the Glen Burnie Mall for the Toys R Us.
I'm not sure if the heat was running or not. It was still not very cold outside the last time we were there. I know in years past they wouldn't run the heat in Winter or the AC in Summer though.
I worked for Ritz Camera Centers in three different malls, only one mall is open! I had worked at Randall Park(demolished), Euclid Square Mall (demolished) and the surviving Great Lakes Mall. Worked from late 1982- 2000 and part of 2001-2002. Sad to see 2,000 stores and an online store all gone!!!! When I left the handwriting was on the wall, with no clear business direction. I will never forget giving away free boat shoes or a bike with a camera purchase(usually a Ricoh camera with the Quantaray Brand house name!!! Its the similar story for many mall and free standing stores.😢😢😢 This was in Ohio.
I worked five times, in four different stores, in Marley. Three of the stores are completely gone. Although the movie theatre is still there, it's owned by a different company than the one I worked for. The Ritz Camera Store in Marley was a good store. I used to go there to buy film and get pictures developed. There were four malls, within about eight miles of Marley, that are long gone. It's sad that this is the way that it's going.
@TodayWereGoingTo I agree that it's convenient to shop online, however for shoes and clothing it is preferable actually try things on instead of having to ship items back!!!! Nice informative video and I can definitely relate to what it used to be like!
I know there used to be a Ritz Camera. I'm not sure about any other photo stores. Ritz was located on the upper level near what used to be Hecht's but it's now Macy's. I'm not sure if you're familiar with the layout of the mall now but Ritz was above where Marley Bounce Party is currently.
The decline started around 2007, they lost just a few stores then. In 2010 a new mall opened about four miles from Marley Station. Marley lost a decent amount of stores in the years after the new mall opened. In the past five or so years, Marley took a big hit. With the new mall and online like Amazon, the mall continues to die. There's only about 30 or so stores that still remain. When the Marley opened in 1987, there were 130 stores.

My family and I used to eat at that Chick-Fil-A all the time.
I lived near there back in the early 90s and it was rocking back then.. What a shame.

We actually went to the Train Garden on Sunday. We visit it every year.

Yes. There are still some stores remaining. My family and I were just there yesterday.
