    For someone who went back to Magic less than a couple of months ago after literally a 22 years hiatus, I truly enjoy your content and appreciate your work. Draft is such a nice format. I think by the way that events are also a neat way to get gold+ other things and discover cards you're not necessarily know well/ play with when you're a "new" player IMO
    And speaking of events and tiny little green creatures than can turn into dreadnoughts, yesterday I finished a Workshop game with a 12/12 beetle plus some spiders and an escaped chimera by letting my B/W removal-less opponent milling himself!
    Thanks for your work man. Guys like you, LegenVD, Merchant, Covert or SBMTG for example plus many streamers are a very welcomed help when you come back on board. #Teambadpun
    Cheers!

    Tip for your next Guide Video: You should make clear that there is a ranking from left to right in the top 3 commons per color. Wasn't clear for me until you explained the Typhon Drop in Green.
    Nevertheless, very good content. Been watching your videos since Core 20 and your content is becoming better and better. Keep up the good work.

    Very Good Video :). I just missed Shimmerwing Chimera. It is pretty awesome. You can bounce your omens, Sages or Aura like
    Starlit Mantle. It is also good for One with the Stars (creature is now an enchantment) or Dreadful Apathy.

    When looking at your archetype ranking one gets the impression that red should be the second best color. It´s part of two top tier and two mid tier decks, making it better than any other color besides black. Yet you have it as the worst color in the set according to your color ranking. Would love to hear some insight on that.

    • @NicolaiBolas
      @NicolaiBolas  4 года назад +2

      I believe I said this in the video, but the real reason is that it mostly functions as a support color, so your deck would be primarily Black with a few Red cards added for synergy purposes. Red is by no means a bad color, but it does have a lower power level than some of the other colors. Even the difference between Iroas' Blessing and Omen of the Forge is massive, and those are the top 2 Red Commons. The Sacrifice Synergy in Red Black provides some extra value, and Red White is a primarily White deck. Green Red unlocks Furious Rise as a payoff which adds to the value there, and cards like Mischievous Chimera and Dreamstalker Manticore gain a lot of value when put into Blue Red. So essentially the color is weaker on its own, but pairs nicely with the other colors.

    green black with discard and escape strategy, since green gives you option to get your lands without necessarily drawing them. then you can escape your discarded minions, buffed due to the escape 1/1 tokens. together with strong exile on enemy graveyard really shuts down enemy escape strategies.
    i have to say though i haven't played the draft yet, i just looked through the theros cards and "made" a deck.

    #ready2.0 great video Nicolai. I had my worst ever lose the other day. I had opening hand with 4 lands and 3 loathsome Chimeras and I drew a land and a Voracious Thyphon in my firsts few turns, my Opponent played an Underworld Rage hound, then Iroas’s Blessing, killing my first Chimera, I played my Thyphon, opponent plays another Blessing, I play a second Chimera, opponent plays Wrapped in Flames, I play my third Chimera, opponent plays a second Flames, I cry.

    Hey Nicolai, what are your thoughts on thassa's oracle? I originally thought it was an omenspeaker with a cute win the game clause, but after playing with it I would say it's in my top 5 pack 1 pick 1s I want to open. A heavy blue deck with riptide turtles, thrill of meanings, and omen of the seas (all cards you want anyway) can turn this into a win condition that is very difficult to interact with. Even just having it as a backup plan in your U/G or U/B deck once you hit a board stall feels really powerful. If you include sweet Oblivion it can be your plan A win condition. There are even solid recursion options with omen of the dead or binding of the Titans to bring it back. Have you experimented with the self-mill deck?
    #Ready2.0

    • @NicolaiBolas
      @NicolaiBolas  4 года назад +1

      I think Thassa's Oracle is a great card. It works especially well in Blue Black because it gives your control deck a real late game, which as I said in the video can sometimes be a problem. Also, Blue Black gives you action to Omen of the Dead, so you can play Oracle early, and get it back later as a win condition. I do not think it is as high up as you, but I definitely think it is a solid P1P1 if you don't open a very top common (I think the only commons I would consider over it are Dreadful Apathy and Mire's Grasp). I actually have played it in a pretty sweet UR deck that won a game with it and probably would have 3-0d (I think I punted a game). The combo with Sweet Oblivion is really quite nice, as you can then maindeck both and as soon as you draw the Oracle you can use Sweet Oblivion to essentially combo off!

    • @ToonLinksDair
      @ToonLinksDair 4 года назад +1

      It is a powerful finisher. However, after just getting 3-3 with a UB low creature count sweet oblivion deck, I've concluded that U control can be weak to fliers (my losses were due to unanswered fliers). Control can be difficult in this format.

    • @CardinalIam
      @CardinalIam 4 года назад

      I think both of your points are fair. The only reason I value it so highly specifically as an early pick is that you can draft with it in mind. I wouldn't be as high on it if you're in pack 2 or 3 and don't have the correct build. Being able to draft to stay alive and "combo" rather than win through combat was a unique and interesting draft experience that felt very powerful when it came together. Here is the (admittedly busted because of blue being so open) list I drafted recently.
      1x Omen of the dead
      1x apheria, the cacophony
      2x riptide turtle
      1x thassa's Oracle
      1x mire's grasp
      2x omen of the sea
      1x sweet Oblivion
      1x naiad of hidden coves
      1x vexing gull
      1x wavebreak hippocamp
      2x deny the Divine
      2x ichthyomorphosis
      2x thirst for meaning
      1x shimmerwing chimera
      2x venemous heirophant
      1x witness of tomorrow's
      1x blight breath catoblepas
      10x island
      7x swamp

    Quick question how is blue one of the weakest colors to draft if 3 of the 4 bombs are blue mix?

    • @NicolaiBolas
      @NicolaiBolas  4 года назад +1

      Well the bombs are Rares and Mythics so it isn't super likely that you will open one. Also, while those are some of the best, it is not a wide gap between those and some of the other best Rares in other colors.

    #Ready2.0 Ashiok didn't impress me that much. When I was behind it didn't really help to catch up. I had more success with Pious Wayfarer. He is a sweet build around.

    • @NicolaiBolas
      @NicolaiBolas  4 года назад +1

      If you ever play Ashiok on an even board the game is just over. Even if they have a creature advantage it still usually ends. It is just so cheap (5 mana compared to 6 for Dream Trawler or 7 for Kiora Bests the Sea God) and difficult to answer.
