I have never been DP'd but I've seen how bad that shit can get. All C-Mac got was a standard learning to conduct himself differently. He got beat up and they left it at that. Trauma at an earlier age has the ability to permanently alter the brain. It shifts your whole development as a person. Neuroplasticity is a thing, people with PTSD often can improve quite a lot. But when your brain is still forming, the changes can be more... fundamental. Terrible way to describe it. A better way might be to say that the pattern of the brain's adaptations to different things can be altered, leading a person to process a lot of things in ways that are harder for a 'normal' brained person to really grasp. It's hard for people like that to communicate their feelings. Their feelings are complex and confusing.
A whole lot of people who have certain levels of trauma as kids wind up with lifelong disorders and development issues. It's a whole different way of experiencing life, or just being a person. With certain people it is necessary to adjust away from your usual cues for things like 'maturity'. Things that appear a certain way in most other people, may show up in different ways in them.
