I’ve been watching boat builds for years and I’ve also built a boat from scratch. I will say I am super excited to watch your series James and I wish you all the luck. I know I’m 3 years late to subscribe but I just found your channel. Looking forward to watching all these videos.
Hi James, someone commented on our video & recommended to check your channel out. We're just starting a similar build ourselves so your video's will be really helpful!
Happy Anniversary James…..who would have thought it’s been about a year……checking now it was 5 November so more than a year. This video just came up on my recommendation again. I’ve obviously seen it before, but hey nice to look back at where it all started.
Hi James , watched you from the start on tv , now I’ve subscribed on my I pad so comments can be made , great to watch different vlogs like yours along with the tight Yorkshire man 👍
Just started watching, enjoying it, though if I get a boat sometime in the future it'll be GRP, as it has to be trailable. Out of curiosity I checked ebay for ultrasonic thickness meters, for £75 it would seem a good investment for anyone looking to buy without survey. Don't know how accurate they are, but they'd probably differentiate from a boat worth the chance, and one not to touch with a bargepole.
New is fine …. In my view, used is better and making it ‘your project’ is a chiefs kiss 😚 particularly when it goes so right! Looks like Kilworth Wharf….?
I may have recoiled in horror too if I had known what was lurking under the floor. I just thought slap on some panels, rig up the wood burner and away.......but alas not quite ! Cheers for watching, glad to have you with me
I suspect you could search forever , and missed out by hesitating , so make the best of what you end up having . I'm an engineer , anything can be fixed , and cheaply if needed . Tread boldly , sounds like your up for it , and up to it , keep us all updated 😉
Great watch! Myself and my fiance had 4 boats in the UK over 8 years. We now live in Spain, and miss our boating. Great to watch you working on the Springer. We are looking forward to seeing you getting the hull pits welded up, and the rudder mount sorted..I think that is the most difficult piece to re fabricate? I saw where youve had to remove all the ballast....weve been there, but its satisfying when you see the positive results. At least you have a blank canvas!, so wiring and putting bulkheads etc are better? Good luck! Dave n Stel.
Relaxing, soothing Music thanks Dave - glad I’m bringing back fond memories of removing ballast !!! There’s only one internal steel bulkhead.....and you’ve guessed it, it’s 2ft in the wrong place !!!!
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt Wheres the bulkhead!? Engine end? cant tell from your vids at the moment. If you are going to move it, take care as it may be structural..tho I have in the pass cut down a bulkhead..
Morning James. Hope your ok 👍🏻 I’ve just come across your adventurer. See two now and really enjoyed them both. So I’ll be following your journey 🤣 Cheers band good luck Stevie 😎
Hi Steve - glad you’ve found my channel and I hope you continue to enjoy the journey. I’m still here at the wharf but the boat looks pretty different now!! Thanks 👍🏼
Morning James. Your very welcome as it’s so interesting because your having a go DIY style but with professional help 👍🏻 I’m slowly catching up. I’ve subscribed and I will follow you no problem. Keep safe cheers Stevie 😎
I have seen beyond launch. Whilst at the start surveyors costs for every boat you want prevent monies being chucked away. However not having a surveyor to check plating thickness could turn out to be a failure. New insurance regulations require boats over a certain age require a survey every three years to satisfy necessary insurance cover. With no survey on purchase you gamble that a future survey won't tell you she needs overplating then £10k + is going to be needed. I agree you could Not pay for a survey on every boat you looked at. But on the one your set upon then yes.
Hello James. I just wondering if you'd considered putting your Morse in the opposite corner where your dinette is going to be and the put your dinette where your fire would have been.... just a thought...
Hi there Yes I could do that but then it’s all abit too port side - having the passage going from starboard to port appeals to me. I like the idea of the kids sitting at the dinette looking face on to me if I’m cooking in the valley rather then then sitting alongside me essentially. Good challenge though, I appreciate it. Thanks
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt it will be good to see your finished result. Have really enjoyed the snippets of the refurb. Amazing the challenges you have had and overcome them too. Cant wait until the finish...do you think it's a December finish or new year?
gary costello welcome !! No worries - it cost me £12k with all the shite inside which was said to be useful and “all I needed to fit out”. Clearly not the case. I want to be in the water for £20k all in
Hi James, we started watching your videos yesterday and are hooked already! We would also like to start a project.. Can anyone recommend where we can store a boat shell for us to do the work prior to purchasing a mooring. We are in North Surrey/border of South West London. Thank you in advance
Hey that’s my neck of the woods. There are a few boatyards around Staines on the Thames - bell weir is a great place in Egham. There are a few along the wey navigation and the canal near Woking.
Blimey - you’re not wrong mate. Your latest vids have been amazing - I find it lovely to see the wharf and hear you. Nostalgic for me. Keep up that quality mate - really is enjoyable for me to watch. Now how are the chooks ?
