I pay may virtual assistants anywhere from $5 an hour to $30/ an hour.

Isn't that wrong though? Shouldn't you pay someone based on the quality of their work and not where they live?
Otherwise it comes off as because they don't live in a first world country, they don't deserve first world rates even though they provide that level of work.
it's not a binary "right or wrong" answer. I think it comes down to what you feel. I don't feel it's wrong if they are paid more than they would in their own country. and if I pay less than I would hiring someone from the US or UK, then I think that's a win-win for both parties involved. If you don't feel it's right, then you are free to pay people as much as you like. This is the beauty of business. You can run your business however you like.

More than likely they are foreign and the exchange rate is different. $5 usd for us might equal $17 or more an hour in their currency.
