Running dehumidifiers 24/7, and a sump pump during the rainy season is an absolute necessity. Heat pumps make it worse. My house is as warm as a melting popsicle. When the hydro goes out, we're sh*t out of luck. I rely on the woodstove and the generator all winter. I can't imagine what it would be like for families in other Provinces!

Not really. Heat pumps are not a reliable primary heat source for most Canadians. Our temp drops too low for them to work. That means you need another back up source like wood, or propane or natural gas. To qualify, recipients cant have any secondary heating systems. At least when the temps drop, and the pumps don't work, they know which houses to check on so they can clear out the frozen bodies. Hmmm, empty homes, fewer people to house; before you know it, they will claim to have a fix for the housing crisis too...

Heat pumps are useless in most parts of Canada . You would need a secondary heat source in the dead of winter.
All insurance companies require a furnace as a backup to a heat pump out West. Why won’t anyone acknowledge this.

Even if the heat pumps worked, imagine the demand on the electrical grids and the supply issues involved in getting even 100,000+ households converted over to them. Talk about time to invest in Mitsubishi and Toshiba stock. Are there even enough contractors available to install them in short order? And that's not even getting into the discussion of how they are not "free".

Running dehumidifiers 24/7, and a sump pump during the rainy season is an absolute necessity. Heat pumps make it worse. My house is as warm as a melting popsicle. When the hydro goes out, we're sh*t out of luck. I rely on the woodstove and the generator all winter. I can't imagine what it would be like for families in other Provinces!

If either where practical they should be able to compete against other options in the free market without any government incentives a heat pump just an electric furnace in the winter that will suck hydro and add humidity to the house being heated (because it's basically a backwards A/C unit) and EVs have existed since the 1800s and still remain less practical

Not really. Heat pumps are not a reliable primary heat source for most Canadians. Our temp drops too low for them to work. That means you need another back up source like wood, or propane or natural gas. To qualify, recipients cant have any secondary heating systems.
At least when the temps drop, and the pumps don't work, they know which houses to check on so they can clear out the frozen bodies.
Hmmm, empty homes, fewer people to house; before you know it, they will claim to have a fix for the housing crisis too...
