Isn’t there a more interesting word to use than “hacking”? There is a poetry in all these structures and using this word takes so much away from this simple elegant poetry.
"Hacking" is intentional on my part--I think it best describes Nervi's process since he was looking for any way to gain a bit of an edge, either performance-wise or weight-wise. That seems similar, to me, to phrases like "lifehack," which describes a small change we can make to save a bit of time, e.g. To me, the fascinating thing about Nervi is that those hacks DID lead to beautiful, even poetic structures. That's a longer story, one that I try to figure out in the book "Beauty's Rigor."
