Classic point of failure! Those cast iron/cast zinc bodies are strong in tension but under the repeated stress of the spring pulling up and down they do fatigue and snap. Machined steel would be better but would cost an absolute fortune to manufacture. I don't know why they don't add more reinforcement wings to that part, I've seen a bunch of pedals fail this way. The only common hi-tech solution seems to be to move the spring to an enclosed tube, which introduces many other problems like difficult adjustments and non-replaceable custom parts.
I also have a Ludwig pedal and it broke in a similar way but in another place, the screw hole of the sidescrew used to clamp it to the bassdrum hoop just gave up exactly like that. ¬¬

Rest in peace to that drum pedal
I had no idea you're a music teacher! I guess that explains why you're so good at teaching :)
I just did some research on that Camco pedal and it turns out, it's actually from the mid 90's
Awesome! Good to know
#LudwigDrums give this guy a new pedal!

Man, I bet that was pretty embarrassing when your old Ludwig bass drum pedal broke while you were filming
Do you guys have a welding program? Maybe they could weld that
Come to Texas and teach me how to play drums instead of watching RUclips videos about drums. I have tacos and Dr. Pepper🤣
camco >>>
Damn that sucks!
that camco pedal is better anyway. Much lighter and faster though its rather noisy.
Yeah I’m diggin it!
Two zip ties would fix that quick smart
