To clarify one thing, since a lot of people have asked: this is a to-demand Secret Lair Drop, and will be produced to order after the preorder window has ended. It won't sell out.

Can i get more than one?
Not long before Sheldon’s passing I messaged him on discord just thanking him for all he’s done for the format. His response when I was surprised he actually thanked me was simply “I always have time to respond to friends of the format”. An absolute legend and a beautiful person inside and out.
If you ever want the essence of who Sheldon was in a handful of words, there it is. So glad you messaged him and you could get that response.
I had a very similar experience. Sheldon and I exchanged emails a few years back on his "You did this to yourself" deck. I couldn't believe I was talking to THE Sheldon Menery! I recently lost my father to cancer so this hits home for me. Looking forward to customizing my version of "You did this to yourself" with Sheldon's signature cards.

This was wonderfully done. Sheldon treasured being able to work on this set. He persevered through the challenges of treatment and coast-to-coast travel to ensure this project received his full attention. It is a true reflection of how he felt about MtG and, more importantly, the Community.

Edit: Yep, crying! Touching just like your video shortly after he passed. This is a beautiful release in so many ways and as someone who lost a best friend to cancer just a couple years ago, I'll be honored to pick one up both in my friend's memory and Sheldon's ♥
I made myself cry again making this video, and then again rewatching it. So many feelings.
I'm not surprised! I'm not sure I'd have been able to keep myself together well enough to ever get it recorded! ♥
I wasn't planning on crying today, but the way you talked about the love Sheldon had for Gretchen and how she shouldered the difficult burden of caring for him until he passed broke me down. I really do hope that she's been able to grieve in peace and finds solace in the joy that her husband spread through his acts for the community
When Sheldon passed away, I sold my single copy of Mana Crypt to buy my Ruhan deck that I built in his honor. It has become my favorite deck and one that people at my FLGS love playing against. Because that is the kind of game environment Sheldon loved and created. I have never bought a secret lair before, but I will for this. I cannot wait to say, "Sheldon enters the battlefield"

Really happy you guys could work on this together. Makes me so sad to hear you talk about him. I’m sure you had such a great friendship and it reminded me of my time with my own friends who passed away.
This is such a sincere video about Sheldon. He is already missed. My oldest son and I started playin Magic in 1994. I am 72 and both of my sons, friends, and I play Commander at the kitchen table. We all ordered the Sheldon Secret Lairs. Thank you so much for the video Gavin.

I met Sheldon at Command Fest Orlando a few months before he passed. He have me a pack while I was playing and I'm that pack I pulled a Thalia and the Gitrog Monster which had become one of my favorite and most cherished decks as it came from the godfather of the format. The best part for me of this secret lair is that all but one card is playable in this Abzan list, and also good in my build. So I get to add the Sheldon spellbook secret lair to my deck that was already attached to him. I'm very excited for these additions. Thank you Gavin and Sheldon!
A touching tribute for a great man. I love the attention to detail in these cards. Even though I didnt have a personal connection with the man, I have to thank him for all of the light that commander has brought into my life. Sheldon is gone, but he will never be forgotten
This video in Sheldon's memory has brought someone who seldom cries to tears. Sheldon gave all of himself in everything he did, and what he did he did for others. The format he created will be here forever, and so will the community he cared for and nurtured.
I've admittedly been somewhat aimless in my life, but I always knew that I love Magic the Gathering and I love the way this game truly brings people together. Helping others feel safe and welcomed in this community the way Sheldon has done is something that I want to give as well.
My only regret is never having the honor of meeting him, thanking him for everything hes done for us. But I know that with friends like you Gavin, he passed away with nothing but love in his heart.

Sorry for your loss Gavin. He would be so proud of you. You clearly poured love and respect into the project and it shines through. The vineyard card made me cry. That he is with his wife in the art was so moving. I bought the drop immediately and i hope the community response, and the money raised, can bring some comfort to you and his family. RIP Sheldon, a Legend, who will live on in eternity with the magic community.
As someone who recently got diagnosed with cancer myself. I have the greatest of respect for sheldon for keeping both spirit and kindness alive when life gives you the worst! Something that i aspire to do aswell! A true legend!

After I spent 2018-20 both feeling suicidal and attempting it, re-joining the MTG community in 2022 genuinely helped me even more to heal. Not because of the game, because of the people I met and am now life long friends with. I was amazed at how commander had evolved from EDH where shortly after its introduction I stopped playing. After seeing how much progression there has been and the type of people I recently met I wish I had never stopped. Because of Sheldon's vision coming to fruition and how more openly diverse society is the game is so beautiful now. I walk into an LGS, gaming cafe/pub and anyone from all walks of life will be playing. After seeing how Sheldon was with all of you wonderful people from you Gavin to the prof inc his guests (one of my favourite mtg videos of all time is the one where he plays against three younger players and he is so lovely and warm to them), the lovely ladies from EDH hijinks too. It made me realise that commander is not only a fun format to play but it is one of the best ways to bond and connect with people. I moved back to my home town to start the process of gradually looking after my parents more as the years go buy with them being in their 70's. A local and absolutely amazing pub (The Crown Wharf) hosts tabletop games and within two weeks I had made an entirely new circle of friends. I do really miss my friends from Liverpool where I moved back home from but keep in touch, attempt commander games online and whenever I visit I have to go see them like as though I have known them for years when actually I only met most of them between 2022 and last year. Because of Sheldon and many magic the gathering players life is beautiful.
Man, this had me in tears. I just lost my Grandma to cancer. While I never met Sheldon, and maybe I didn't agree with his commander rulings, He always genuinely seemed like such a nice guy. I enjoyed his videos with the Professor, and any other gameplay videos. Such a cool thing you got to work with him on this secret lair. Such a great way to remember him.
He was a local in my area. A wonderful man. I enjoyed seeing him at the lgs. I live next to bern's as well and I'd see him getting ready to eat every once in a while. R.I.P. Sheldon.
When you see Sheldon standing in the crowd of Teferi's Protection's art and it hits you right in the feels. Rest in peace good sir.

While I never got to meet Sheldon in person, I've watched many video's of him on shows. He seemed like a very kind and thoughtful individual. He brought to us a wonderful game of Magic that everyone enjoys. I appreciate what he brought to the game for all us. Thank you Sheldon for everything you brought to our wonderful game. I purchased two of these, one to play with and another just to put up and maybe give to someone else one day to pass it on. Rest in peace.
I already thought the Lair was a wonderful tribute, but to know he personally worked on it before his passing makes it even more special. I can’t wait to build my own version of a “you did this to yourself” deck with a representation of Sheldon himself at the helm.

I messaged Sheldon on Twitter once back when I first heard about his cancer diagnosis to wish him well, I didn't really expect him to reply, news was making the rounds and his inboxes were probably bursting at the seams, but he thanked me for reaching out. I'll always remember that, that he was the kind of person who would take the time for some guy he never met that just liked commander.
I'm happy to see Sheldon Immortalized in some cards that had meaning to him. He gave people like me so much without even knowing who we were, and all he asked was that we were decent to each other. I'm glad he'll be with the format, both in spirit and in some sweet cards, as it continues on.
I met Sheldon last year this time at Magic Con Phill. I apologized for interrupting him and asked if when he was done his game would he mind signing a card of mine. He didn't mind at all and asked if he could sign right then instead, so he signed my Sliver Queen. It being the first 5 color legendary creature, I felt that was the card with the most significant tie to Commander in my collection at the time, even though Commander was created years later. I thanked him plenty and moved on to let him get back to playing and play myself. Later he came by my table and offered a booster pack to everyone, saying we could "draft" one from the pack we open and put it into our hands. 😂 It was a bit silly but we loved it. Rest in Peace Sheldon.
Inkshield has been my favorite card ever since I got the Breena Precon. I had no idea it was so special...

I didn't know about this man before today, but Commander is my favorite way to play this game. On top of that, the more I hear about this man, the more he resonates with me as a person. I almost feel like I lost someone I never got the opportunity to know they existed. I can only imagine how those that actually knew him. May he rest in peace.
I’ve never bought a secret lair, and I couldn’t see of any better first to buy. I would love nothing more than to pay homage to him, having something to remember him by.
I think my favorite magic card's name is fitting here, Farewell. Goodbye, Sheldon. You helped make Commander what it was, and I found my own home within it. See you on the Rainbow Bridge.

I never had the privilege of meeting him, but I could cry watching everyone's videos on how much he meant to people. I love that he's going to live on in cards people will get to play in his favorite format
I did not have the privilege to meet him. I only have stories from people such as yourself to attempt to fill the gap. Stories are the way that people that are gone live on, and up until now, that was all I would’ve had to know him. Now, I can look at these cards and hear his story, and hopefully feel his spirit. This was such a touching tribute, even for me never having met him. Thank you for the introduction
I didn't even knew Sheldon, but knowing how a nice person he was and how he dedicated his life to the community, really makes me want to cry.

A top tier judge that created the most played and beloved format, has the privilege to design cards and his own Secret Lair drop... Happily married, lots of friends in the community... That's incredible, he left us too soon but his life sounded amazing. ❤

I didn't think I would cry, but as you talked about him, it just made me cry, he will be missed by many, really thank you, Sheldon, for everything you did for magic and its community. I'm going to get this fantastic secret lair for my brithday, and the only reason I'm not using sheldon in the command zone is to include inkshield. Fantastic idea and I'm really glad that you got to honor your friend like this.

I really hope to purchase Shaldon's Spellbook soon. Sheldon helped create the format that gave me an escape in some of the darkest times of my life. I want to build a deck around Sheldon to be a physical reminder of him and his contributions. I've never known him personally, but through his involvement my days have also been a little brighter.
The thought of Sheldon being carried on in commander decks for eternity is something I look forward to. It's so amazing to think someone's first and only copy of these cards are possible because of him. An amazing way to tribute his life.
i dont get moved too often too a near state of tears but hearing your candidly said words of a dear friend, im glad this could still come too fruition in the end and a beauitful message cant wait too pick one up
This video explanation helped me get but a strain of understanding of who Sheldon was a person. But also you as well. The love and respect that you’ve shown for him here in this video expresses how much you appreciated his craft, his time, his work and his vision as for goals for something that you BOTH loved dearly. I am even more excited and happier now, to have pre-ordered Sheldon’s spellbook. This set has a special place in my collection and I’m sure it will for you as well.

Such an amazing tribute to a legend. I lost my Dad recently and the words you mentioned about Sheldon echoes what my Dad embodied.
My Dad didn't play magic or anything, but my Dad was a pioneer in his own right, a protector, and was looked up by everyone.

The "Heart of the Cards" may not be a magic thing, but these cards defiantly have a whole lot of heart in them! Well done Gavin, Sheldon and everyone who worked on these. A heartfelt tribute to a man who helped bring countless hours of enjoyment to people like my friends and I before we even knew who he was. Thank you to Sheldon for everything he did for this game and the people who love it, and to the Wizards team for wanting to honor that.
I was so bummed originally that you couldn't play all of the cards in the deck with Sheldon at the helm. Knowing that he chose them softens that a little bit. I never knew him, but from everything I've seen of him whether it be his appearances on Tolarian Community College or The Command Zone or here in the flavor text of these cards, he seems like a wonderful guy. A fitting tribute to one of the most influential members of this great community.

I never met Sheldon, but I was introduced to Commander because of the Judge Program when I was a part of it. This is a wonderful tribute to a man who embodied all that was great about Magic, the format, and the philosophy behind playing with friends old and new. I love how personal these tribute cards are to him, from using the Italian version of Greater Good to showcasing his love of wine in the art of Eladamri's Vineyard. Friends made this possible. He also had a great taste in cards as all of them are highly playable. I think his Command Tower epitaph of "Hate has no place here." sums up just how important and great Sheldon was to many in creating a safe space, and I know that he won't ever be forgotten. Sleep well Sheldon.
The art for the Command Tower really gets me. Between your description and the flavor text, I imagine it as a last beautiful structure in an evil-encroaching world. An invincible bastion of goodwill that will forever stand defiant against hatred, where anyone can take shelter. It's my favorite pick from the Spellbook for that reason. I love it.

Sheldon was an inspirational man, one whose memory will forever be a blessing to us all.
I still feel the impact his loss had on all of us, and I only interacted with him in sparse communication on discord. The man was a legend, and its so awesome that the game will have cards to reflect his impact. The man left the world better than he found it.

Even though I'm very much new to the community of this game, only starting to play with the pre release of Brothers war, watching this still makes me tear up although Sheldon didn't touch my life it's incredible seeing the people that he has touched honour him in so many different ways, he was clearly and amazing man

I played magic when I was much younger, but my wife started to play, and lured me back in. I asked friends where to get started, and Commander as a casual format absolutely hooked me. It's got everything I love - it's a social game, it can be silly, serious, and at its best makes for awesome stories and fun memories.
I can be critical about many things in Magic, but I cannot deny that this format is my kind of Gathering. And this, this is a fantastic tribute to one of the key players in making that happen.
Anyone reading this: my own life experience agrees that Sheldon has it right. Surround yourself with the best people, enjoy them, lift them up. That really does take care of the rest.

I met Sheldon while he was at a booth with Olivia Gobert-Hicks at Gen Con playing a game of Commander with her. I teased him for what terrible thing he was about to unleash on her and he smiled and said “It’s coming.” With a smile on his face. I then thanked him and offered a bit of fanboying to Olivia. He was a great guy, and I learned of his passing while on vacation last year. He created the format I love to play the most. He deserves all the accolades he can get, and I can’t think of anyone more deserving of a Secret Lair than Sheldon himself.
Very well written script today, Gavin! It brought me tears and a great sense of appreciation for the game we all love. Thanks for sharing some of what went into this Secret Lair.
Whenever you talk about how Sheldon was as a person, it reminds me of how my grandma was. She was my safe space, a voice of reason, a person who changed my life for the better. She also recently passed from cancer. And now I’m crying because I can’t help but think of her watching this touching tribute to your friend

It's lovely hearing the story behind the cards and hearing how involved Sheldon had been in this project.
WOWIE. That Command Tower is going in my deck and STAYING in my deck. I always wanted to make my own version of Sheldon's "You did this to yourself" deck but ended up making a bit of a different deck...but still with a "you really don't want to try and hurt me" style deck, so putting that Command Tower at the least in will serve as a nice little reminder of who helped inspire it.

Man, I almost started towards the end of this video. I cannot imagine a more perfect tribute to one of the greatest individuals of this game.
And just think now, Gavin, Sheldon isn't gone. He lives on not only through these cards but also through the people who play them 😁
May he rest in peace, one day we'll all get the chance to meet with this wonderful person and play commander with him for an eternity =) I hope when that time comes I'll have many years of cool gavin designs and mechanics to introduce him!

Very glad to see that this Secret Lair Drop especially is going to be print to order despite Hasbro's recent decision to move to limited print. It means that it'll be accessible to all like just like the commander format, and all to raise money for a fantastic cause.

@Welverin yes it's a to demand printing so as long as you order during the window you will get a copy. And the order window is almost an entire month
I am buying one for the shelf and one for my decks. I wish I had the honor to meet this legend, rest in power Sheldon.

I purchased a foil and nonfoil version. And I want to say, this is HUGE for me, and will never happen again.
I was never interested in Secret Lairs, but when they came out I said they'd probably get me with 4 alt arts of lightning bolt.
And then as they came out news spread of terrible quality control and awful customer support.
And when the day came that they delivered what I asked for? I refused. I'll get them eventually as Singles online one day, but I have no interest in buying SLs.
But Sheldon is special. He was a wonderful man, and I want something special to remember him.
And that Teferi's protection really really helps. I will absolutely use these cards in his memory. Some of these foils will go in my beloved Kenrith deck. May he be remembered for a long time,
Damnit, I've cried several times between this video and the professors. I mean seriously. Its so emotional.
The True Elder Dragon, truly a benevolent person. One who believed in the kindness of this world & the people who come to live in it. I truly will be grateful to this man who gave me & so many players the best way to play the game of Magic.
