This video and the archetype intro yesterday was a perfect combination. Im a returning player after many years of not playing and I don't have a lot of limited experience either. Im super excited for the pre-release and now I feel like I have enough background to be much more of a competent limited builder than I would have been. Thanks Gavin!
Just FYI if this is your first event from your return, MH3 power level bonkers, so just calibrate your expectations. Overall prerelease is super fun though!
Making a number of piles that will contain all the cards, e.g. [W, U, B, R, G, Multi, Colourless] and sorting once from top down is faster. Ask any programmer they'll tell you this problem is provable and solved. An easy way to prove what you're doing isn't optimal is to cut the deck in half do what you're doing for half the deck then the other half, it will be quicker (plus it'll be easier to hold in your hand). Taking this to the extreme is 1 card piles, but this is the same as sorting one card at a time from the top down.
@@DrivingCr00ner just look up different sorting algorithms, there are videos where the different ones are visualized and you can see how they are sorting
My LGS owner knows a lady that makes bags out of the booster pack wrappers. So we try to open the packs nicely and make sure to get them out of the way early so that he doesn't need to go around too often.
Definitely faster to sort everything in one go. Imagine the worse case scenario for sorting,l. you go through the entire deck of cards and you don't have a card for a certain color . You have now wasted time going through the entire deck for no reason. Instead, if you sort it all in one go, the worst case and the best case are the same. You go through the deck once and it's sorted instead of going through it multiple times, having to look at every remaining card .
@@americoperez810Exactly. Also you waste a lot of brain power. Sorting like Gavin you need to look at each Green card five times verifying it each time, before you eventually put it in a pile. Also should probably take out the rares. I do it even though I ussually open everything at once. Especially in Sealed you might have bombs that just need to be played!
I do something similar. I will pull all mythics/lands and set them aside. Then just place them down in piles of mono colors, multi colors and colorless. Then look at the higher rairties to get a general idea of my "strongest" cards and build from there.
Just going through once and sorting into all the color piles simultaneously is massively faster. There really is no comparison on the speed front. It is also more accurate and helps with speeding the card pool analysis as you are paying attention to the individual cards more during the sort. You should have dropped Copycrook in the final deck for the 1 drop Transmorgrant. Copycrook is double B and frequently without a decent target while Transmorgrant is a recurrent creature that combos with other cards in the deck and it gives you something to potentially do on the first turn, which you are otherwise lacking entirely. You were making a similar analytical mistake by counting the 1 drop goblin as a 5 drop removal spell while analyzing the Red... that is the fail case not the primary use.
