The best time to view wildlife in the national parks is ideally to visit the parks before/after the sun is fully up. During humid weather the animals tend to stay away from open/prominent areas. Enjoy the rest of your stay.

Very smart move to skip Yala, for a more intimate experience. Yala is very good no doubt, but there's usually a ton of jeeps and tourists and it often dampens the feeling of serenity. So save Yala for shoulder season or when you know the crowds are thin.
