Quest is a god. He has deep knowledge of drumming and playing techniques without being cocky or arrogant. I have always admired and respected him. Much love to Questlove!
He's absolutely correct about breaking sticks. I used to go through quite a few sticks during my first 10 years playing drums. Over the last 10 years, my technique has gotten better and I've learned how to play my drums and cymbals and I hardly go through sticks nowadays, and I play mostly metal and I'm using really light maple sticks.
He´s not only highly sought after in the states by hip-hop cats. He´s the groovemaster to us drummers here in Finland too...always amazing how he can play like that!
Thanks so much for these truly amazing sticks! There're the tastiest sticks I've ever played. These sticks are so fast, you can't help but find grace notes you didn't know you had. The extra length gives so much snap on the accents. The grip gives the perfect grippy fulcrum spot, so holding the sticks with only index finger and thumb swings like a mutha. These are also the best sticks for spinning, especially because that cool black and white makes for some legit stagecraft. Wow! I didn't know what a difference could be had with these sticks, or any sticks. These babies are next level. What balance. Vic Firth is the only stick company for me. Stick with it Questlove! Big love!
just found these on amazon; love the specs and design, but *there needs to be a version with nylon tips.* i'll see how they sound on the cymbals when i receive them tomorrow....
Update: Used the new Questlove sticks last weekend at a show and the rubber coating caused a blister on the side my left hand index finger that was torn open and ended up as a nasty sore finger throughout the rest of the show. Our shows are arranged to play our songs back to back so there wasn't any time to do anything about it. Just sayin'. I still love the way they feel and all but will be removing the coating for future use.
5:17 I've been using this same pair of 5A sticks for about 3-5 years and they haven't broke yet. Either they are incredibly strong or I just found the perfect place to hit on the drum and grab on the stick because I have never broke a pair of drumsticks before
I gotta get this Legend and the Roots album and I knew about it for a while but didnt dare get it sort of not getting disappointed by an expectation that didn't turn out. I like both acts very much and I am looking forward to givin it a good listen.. I dont really know what D'Angelo's up to these days but would love another effort from him and the Roots.. If it will ever happen.. :-) I can imagine Bilal guesting on it maybe a couple of songs. Spanning from jungle beats to pure soul... Yeaahh..
I randomly got what I can only conclude was a pair of these sticks from my neighbour years ago. The black was gone or going and the writing long worn away. Eventually one broke. Now I play much less hard than before and I kinda want that stick back. Really cool drummer this guy is, speaking from total ignorance of his existence until now
Everyone commenting to play lightly, how often do you play or have used these sticks. These are my favorite sticks but the tips are brittle, it’s not that the sticks break in half from hard hits, the tips split from repetition, as do most, but these sticks tips split way too fast. Check the selection at your local music store, I guarantee you will even see splits on brand new sticks & these sticks are $14-$15. I would love to see another option for the exact stick but with nylon tips.
They are so thin; right in between a 5A and a 7A. First time I ever put a pair in my hand and started playing with them I felt like I was gonna break them but that was about two years ago and they are still holding strong.
WorldWidedog0 yeah, i knew he played ludwig snare drums but i was wondering which model. it looks like it doesn't have the "bumpy" ring in the middle of the shell, maybe it's a wooden snare, like the LS401...
@xXWhatUpDocXx I always thought the second one was the one after the first ;) but it´s even better you meant that other second one , cause I definitely know which song it is :" Guns are drawn " (--> The Tipping Point )
well, it depends on what kind of music you play. i hit hard, im a big guy, but i choose my hits wise, like, i know my drums, the only thing that fucks up my sticks.. is rimshots, i can not play without them.
Man, are you serious? Haha. Clearly there is something unique about him, seeing as he is so highly sought after by all the hip hop cats in the states. + he has such an understanding of music that his groove is so almost perfect. give me one record where Questlove takes away from the music..
These sticks are a great concept but they are cheaply built! The grip material falls apart after a couple weeks or so. Once the grip starts falling off, you have to throw the entire stick away becuase only a few chunks stay on the stick, which makes it very uncomfortable to play.
Rubbish mate! Questlove Serves the music.. that's what our job is as a drummer. He does it better than a lot of other drummers. He practically invented the soul music we hear today, 'neo soul'. it's the simple drummers that impact the music 90% of the world listen to, Questlove has changed hip hop, influenced some of the greatest artist we listen to now days. so show a little respect mann
He is very good playing simple things, that's all. He plays with precision and passion, but out of his world is a drummer with poor skills. Sorry for my english...
From simply having watched and listened to this video, 1. I am way better at the drums. 2. My band mates are more comfortable and settled in the groove. 3. Drumming takes more mental effort and less physical effort than most people think or would like to think.
Quest is a god. He has deep knowledge of drumming and playing techniques without being cocky or arrogant. I have always admired and respected him. Much love to Questlove!
100% ♥♪♫♪ Ahmir is a true inspiration!
Hitting light is how the old time r&b/soul/funk cats did. Look how light all the JB players played. It gets that feel/finesse and dynamic sound to it
Which explains why you hear more resonance in those JB snares, jabo and Clyde gave you the perfect balance of rim and head tone.

Over the last 10 years, my technique has gotten better and I've learned how to play my drums and cymbals and I hardly go through sticks nowadays, and I play mostly metal and I'm using really light maple sticks.
Questlove is one of my favorite drummers, and those are very nice drumsticks for him!!! ❤😊❤😊
He´s not only highly sought after in the states by hip-hop cats. He´s the groovemaster to us drummers here in Finland too...always amazing how he can play like that!

Agree 100% my son picked these up and im in love
just found these on amazon; love the specs and design, but *there needs to be a version with nylon tips.* i'll see how they sound on the cymbals when i receive them tomorrow....
i never noticed it. he has incredible hand technique! so relaxed!
My little brother loves these sticks over all the rest; can’t blame him, they’re dope!
Such a talented group of musicians.
I cant believe a stick can change your whole way of playing.
A lot of fun sticks
Try this stick!
he got one! its called Ludwig breakbeats and its the greatest kit of all time. $400 for a 4 piece kit with great sound quality!
Love this. I am ordering some new sticks too! ♥♪♫♪

I just got these sticks today, and there super long so I can reach my roto tom's, they're super cool
5:17 I've been using this same pair of 5A sticks for about 3-5 years and they haven't broke yet. Either they are incredibly strong or I just found the perfect place to hit on the drum and grab on the stick because I have never broke a pair of drumsticks before
maybe... you’re just weak
@@harryjutsum8425 I wouldn't say that cause the tappers are all chewed out on all of my sticks and now I FINALLY broke a drumstick!
I gotta get this Legend and the Roots album and I knew about it for a while but didnt dare get it sort of not getting disappointed by an expectation that didn't turn out. Such a smart guy and he seems super nice too!
Love these sticks I just wish they come in nylon tip. Vic Firth forgotten about us VDrum players I guess
I really liked the feel of this stick when I tried it, but the tips were way too brittle. They started splitting almost immediately.
play lightly lol
I can believe you. The sticks were designed more like signature/custom and made for his playing style. quest tends to play lightly
Get some 5Bs then lol

Regal Tip have the best sticks for grip
Exactly, that's why most basic grooves are called "money beats" :)
Can you please make them without the dip? I get blisters but love the feel!
how many drummers do you know that use razor edged vintage crash cymbals as their hi hats? So much respect for quest, this guy know too much!
He does now! A junior kit, but I'll be getting it!
That’s the type of drumming I want to approach.
hes got one now
That's John Legend!
anyone knows what snare he plays at the begining, in the studio?
is it an LM400, or an acrolite, or something else?
Hey! He's using a ludwig. All Ludwigs sound great! I own 2 acrolites myself!! :)
WorldWidedog0 yeah, i knew he played ludwig snare drums but i was wondering which model.
it looks like it doesn't have the "bumpy" ring in the middle of the shell, maybe it's a wooden snare, like the LS401...
mouldeck Ludwigs website does not say anything about what drums loses
***** Yamaha Absolute Custom, Silver Sparkle over maple. Provided by Studio Instrument Rentals, hence the SIR logo at the bottom of the batter head :)
What kind of crash is that there? Sounds so nice and dark & slow!
He uses the Zildjian Oriental Crash of Doom 20" and the K Light Ride 24"
Having hard times in this crazy town...
He's got the break beat ludwig signature kit
BABY HUEY HARD TIMES!
What are those cybals?
OMG what is that song at 2:54??? DOPE!
Guns are Drawn
@canadianmattu "Hard Times" off of the album Wake Up by John Legend and The Roots.
what kind of snare is that? and heads?
I love his signature sticks! However they need to be cheaper.
vsc _ Hell yeah😂😂
Victor Cardone Fuck his signature sticks!!! Fucking toothpicks!!!
@Chuck Mays he has one now, Ludwig Breakbeat
@xXWhatUpDocXx I always thought the second one was the one after the first ;) but it´s even better you meant that other second one , cause I definitely know which song it is :" Guns are drawn " (--> The Tipping Point )
@xXWhatUpDocXx I´m pretty sure it´s a version of Little Ghetto Boy (--> Wake up).
What's the song called when there in the studio??
the song is called "hard times" can be heard on "wake up!" (2010)
What is the song witch starts at 3:38? Questlove is the best. Groveking.
well, it depends on what kind of music you play. i hit hard, im a big guy, but i choose my hits wise, like, i know my drums, the only thing that fucks up my sticks.. is rimshots, i can not play without them.
Its great
the seed 2.0 by the roots
Those Sticks are the Shit I love em
damn he looks so much like the dude from key and peele
I wish that was Baby Huey singing.
I hope it's a 3 piece, like back in the day.
What are those weird sticks he is playing in the suit???
Check the original Hard Times - Baby Huey... heavy
wich is the first song of the video?? thanks. :)
What is the first song they are playing?
It's a shame it took so long before ?uestlove got his own signature sticks.
Lets see how long before he gets a signature kit.
Hey man, so the kit is good?? I was thinking of getting it because its a $400 Ludwig haha
brussellification I had it!! It’s fucking shit!! I’d only use it for
rehearsals!! The drums have no
balls.... Small drums!! small sound!!
Man, are you serious? Haha.
Clearly there is something unique about him, seeing as he is so highly sought after by all the hip hop cats in the states.
+ he has such an understanding of music that his groove is so almost perfect.
give me one record where Questlove takes away from the music..
What crash and ride is he using
20" zildjian oriental crash of doom and an 24" k light ride
What is his band's name?
❤️
Why should I do this? I would really enjoy a justification of your demand.
What's the name of the song that begins at 2:13 please ?
The Roots-Guns Are Drawn
Thank you man!
you are boss,you know that
Don't you have your own drum tech for assistance? I know I enjoy doing it myself too! ... Great commercial, poor excuse for one, ha ha! rock on!

Lee Andrews .....Quest's Old Man. RUclips FACT of The Day.
This guy is a human Dilla loop.

Hard Times
The Roots

I doubt that's the band's name.
It's a 4-piece
I hate hip hop, but Questlove is one of my favorite drummers
Those fucking sticks are like toothpicks!! They are really thin sounding!!!
I like Questlove, but he seems to be alittle too into himself...lol
if you think he's cocky search up Ronald Bruner Jr... his sound legacy video
Alex Bond Yes!! I agree!!...and he
is so fucking overrated!!!
if you take that from this video, i'd have to say, huh? 🤔🤔
into himself ? Maybe your talking about "Dave Elitch The Arrogant Guy"
Guns Are Drawn. It's off The Tipping Point.
Rubbish mate!

Haha.
I only smoke acid when my cat farts
These would be perfect if they had nylon tips
true my friend
That's not much of an answer, let alone a justification.
@spacitydrummer4JC thats a load of crap if i ever saw it.
Slippery sticks? Just get a box of canning wax from the grocery store. Works great and one box will last you forever!
La nullità e servita
Most overrated drummer ever! Don't get me wrong... He got his own voice but people talkin' like he invented the groove! Please!
tyronebiggimsh Yeah!! Hard to listen to him for more than 30 seconds!!
