Yes, please do a video on the solvent based polyurethane for walnut. Keep up the great work!
Will do. It's actually a water based coating
All of your pieces are fine works of art. Most of my subscriptions are restorations of furniture (from painted back to natural) and start to finish projects. When you have a new post, it makes my day. There are other fine woodworking artists, but you are by far my favorite. You're also a fine teacher.
That's very kind of you! Thank you and I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment
Have just come across your videos you are magician with wood! its awsome to see how you have gone from a garage to a huge workshop! cheers for the videos
Wow, that's very nice! Thanks so much, and I hope to see you back!
That laguna resaw king has lived on my bandsaw rent free for years!
Rent free? Sheash! I charge mine
Thin layer of glue each side and wait until tacky. Should still see grain through the glue. No glue line and works in the field, on flat and mitred joints. I am always looking for an excuse to use my routers, my favorite, so like you, have lots of extra space to fill with templates I rarely use again. 🙂 Keep up the good work; you are my favorite go to when resting at the end of the day. I can cocktail and still woodwork!
Ya, see, everyone does it differently based on how humid their environment is and such. Thanks for taking the time to not only watch, but comment!
Thank you for putting this videos together for us to enjoy and learn your fine furniture making! God bless you!
You are very welcome! Thank you for watching!
I glue both sides and then using pipe clamps, I squeeze firmly; firmly enough that there isn't a visible junction. I'm 75 and have never had a failure with this method.
Great to know, I hear both sides and it just seems like it's up to the user
@@FortressFineWoodworks I do both sides because its like cheap insurance, if I have a holiday on one, maybe the other will save me and if it doesn't, heck I can always rip the joint and glue it again. Not that I've ever done that, of course.
Another winner.
You're teaching me how to visualize and incorporate curves into my until-now straight line bases.
Thank you.
That's always great to hear. I'm glad you are trying more things. Thanks for watching!
Beautiful table and awesome video. As I have said many times before, your attention to detail is amazing. I also like how you show different methods to getting the job done and I always learn so much from your videos. All the best to Cody and if I lived closer, I would apply for that vacant position!
I can only assume your name is Jason from your profile name. If so, thank you Jason. I'm glad you always take the time to watch and comment, and you get information you enjoy from it. Thanks again!
You assume correctly lol! You make my day every time you upload.
The alder and the walnut is a great contrast. Would make a great little table to have your morning coffee
And it sure will. Thanks!
The finish on this table is perfect, way too good to be left outside.
I haven't mustered up the courage to put it outside yet.... it's just too nice. Thanks!
I’ve been binge watching all of your videos. Great work and vision!
If you can, you should really consider investing in a hoist/trolly. With the addition of your grabo or similar panel carrier, you can move things around way more easily and safely. It’s a matter of time before you blow your back out or bust a piece up trying to lift it by yourself like you do quite often in these videos alone.
Keep the awesome videos coming!
Thanks for binge watching! Yes I definitely agree, I will need to figure out how to lift things easier
Great job the table looks amazing
Thanks so much! I appreciate you watching!
I only glue one side also. I like to sand to 220 normally. I have noticed you know a lot about finishing your projects. that is the hardest part of the job for me. I've tried some of the hard wax oils they are easy to use. but i feel they offer little protection. so I have went back to lacor or polyethene. i put on a lot of coats. I live in Colorado also. love your videos. thanks
Ya, the finishes I use adhere best to 150 grit. And the festool sander makes a fine finish with 150. I think you should use the products that make you happy in the end.
Uuuuf what a table base! Loving the design. Beautiful! Fantastic video mate!
Thank you a ton! I appreciate your feedback
Time stamp 10:24. You said "Doo Doo". haha. Anywho, great work as always. love the high quality content!
Shit... I guess I did.
Your work is brilliant.
That's very kind, thanks for watching!
Looks great and of course I’m interested in seeing video about the finish.
Okay great! Thanks
Man what an inspiration. Beautiful
What an honor. Thank you
I recently discovered your channel and enjoy the way you cover your project videos. You do beautiful work! I work primarily in air dried walnut and have been honing in on your finishing methods such as your grain filling techniques you used in a couple of your videos and the finishes you use. I love the look of freshly finished walnut, but hate how it mellows yellow over time, so I'm trying to find ways to prolong the "new cut walnut" look. Sounds like you used a new finish in this video, so yes I would love to see a video on it.
That's awesome! Walnut is amazing! I didn't use the new waterbased finish in this video, it was imrons solvent acrylic urethane. The new finish will be in a future video
Phenomenal work. Really great job.
Thank you so much!
Very nice piece of work sir. You really have a talent for what you do and it doesn't go unnoticed.
I appreciate that! Your viewership is important to me so thank you
New subscriber, yes, you're absolutely correct. Tis why it's called, "each their own".
Thank you for the sub! I appreciate you watching, very much!
Best luck for Cody
He will find his passion! Thanks!
The glue on both sides is just a question of pressure.
I think, when you put glue on the surface of wood, there's a thin layer that gels on the surface of the wood. Then when you pressurize it, you can't squeeze that gelled glue out. Just my opinion though.
Thanks for watching!
Amazing . congratulations and thanks for this so satisfying video
My pleasure. Thanks for watching!
Really beautiful ❤ love that base
Thanks so much!
Great job!
Thank you! I appreciate it!
Beautiful end product, I love all the character of the wood. Please provide info on finish performance.
I sure will. Thank you!
Old table vs new table...
Hmmm...
That is a tough one.
The unique caracter of the old table is nearly impossible to beat offcourse, but in the end i think you all did succeed in yet another great build👍
Sheesh, I almost thought you liked the beautiful old table! Thanks!
Awesome work 👍
Thanks ✌️
I see the views going up and up! Well deserved!
Yes! I'm so thankful! I appreciate you being along for the ride!
Nailed it again brother.
Thanks bro. I appreciate you watching
I really like this. The natural colours of the wood work so well with your painted base. Where do you get your branded medallions from
Thank you, I'm glad you like it! I get them from coinsforanything.com
@@FortressFineWoodworks thanks for the link. I've got to say your work is really inspiring me! are you on instagram so we can connect and chat?
Im not on instagram but I have a Fortress Facebook page. Either go to Fortress Fine Woodworks on facebook or use this link facebook.com/profile.php?id=100093061533559
I think I would have made the top and bottom curves in one piece to add some flow to the base .Just one opinion .
Yeah I agree that could look really good
Th at table is just luscious I want it but can’t afford it Fantastic
Thank you. Thanks for watching!
Oh, wow
Simply outstandingly Excellant
No words to express the class of Excellance
Wow, thank you! That's very nice of you. Thanks for watching!
❤
Thank you!
Really great work 🥰🥰
I'm glad you like it! Much appreciation!
Came in for a QUICK peek at your video..that was 3 videos ago...an addictive watch..be careful!😂🎉🎉🎉🎉
That's amazing to hear! Thanks for watching multiples!
I’ll be watching for when you leave that table outside because I want to come and steal it! 🤠
Oh shit... I didn't even think of that! Ya thief!
@@FortressFineWoodworks 🤣🤣🤣
I enjoyed the build. Reminds me of a small table I built for my wife's chicken stuff with the inlays - I almost chickened out on that part. I noticed you use the pilot drill - the one with the gold colored base. I just bought one - have not used it yet. How do you like yours?
I like my countersink. It cuts fast and never seems to dull. It does make marks on soft surfaces, but that's all
Do you coat your cauls with anything to keep them from becoming glued to the table? I always put some wax paper around them. 4:26
Yes I wax them every once in awhile
Great job. Where did you acquire your Fortress medallions,?
Thanks! Coinsforanything.com
Fantastic job ! What sprayer do you use to spray paint and finish ?
Thank you! I use a graco x7 airless with 308 fflp tip for water based. And an apollo Atomizer hvlp gun with a high solids tip for solvent finishes
Adidas table!
Thanks for watching!
I know it’s simple for you but how did you find the square angle with the framing square. That still seems more complicated to me. You of course make it look easy and i am probably an idiot but I would love to know how you do that. Great videos. My new favorite channel
I put the point of the square on the center pivot mark that I used with the compass, then mark each outside edge of the square where it crosses the template.
Thanks for watching
Thanks so much. I am working with a large 16’ diameter so I guess I will have to fabricate a larger square. Great videos
Gotcha, that's a big square. If it were me I would rely on math then. It's too hard to explain though
No dust mask while sanding ?
Not with festools dust collection. It's beyond amazing!
I normally wear the dust mask when using Festool RO, but if you don't, fair enough. But no mask at the spindle sander at 6:40. Mask at 8:40 at belt sander ?
I'll agree, the belt sander was a moment where I should've warn a mask.
❤Absolutely Beautiful
I'm glad you like it! Thanks for watching!
I will never buy another Laguna product. Their customer service is the worst of any I have ever experienced.
I'm sorry you had that experience. Nordfab is the worst I've ever experienced
Looks like a 1979 Gretsch Committee. Sexy.
Haha sweet! Thank you
That table ought to withstand the death of the sun someday, nice job. Also, you don't have a hair on your a$$ if you don't take the old table and attempt to sell it as an "art piece... making a statement... about..." well, something. I also only glue half the joint, and cringe when other folks on YT slather glue and then proceed to squeeze out more than is left in the joint. Seems wasteful, and would have to add a lot of sanding and clean up. I've found that even wiping off glue with a wet rag will sometimes leave a spot in finishes.
You know your shit Matt. Glue on both sides is just way too much glue. Cody is a little messy though.
Thanks for taking the time to comment!
am i the only one disliking those "1850ies railroad themed tablelegs"?
amazing craftsmanship, just not my style..... feels too heavy
I appreciate your opinion. I actually forgot to mention why I made it so girthy. Thin wood doesn't fair very well outside, so in the event that I expose it to weather, I need the heavy base to withstand those elements
