I started watching golf in the early 80s and was instantly drawn to Calvin Peete. So many were white country club guys that looked like me that anything different was compelling. After learnIng his days to riches story, I was fascinated.

Appreciate this video. However, there are some additional Black golfers who should be recognized: John Shippen was the first Black man to play in the US Open (1896); following Charlie Sifford on to the PGA Tour were Pete Brown (first Black golfer to win a PGA Tour event), Jim Dent, Walter Morgan and Jim Thorpe. All won tournaments on the PGA Tour and/or the PGA Senior Tour. All deserve to be recognized.

Mr. Walker, I appreciate your comments! I will remind you that anyone has the ability to speak on our history, and you can always make an additional video with those not mentioned here. This video was created for that purpose, to spark the interests and begin conversation about our history. Thanks

Tiger Woods' son is named after Charlie Sifford. Also- Max Baer, Jr. (Jethro of The Beverly Hillbillies) and Charlie Sifford won the 1968 Andy Williams Pro- Am in 1968.

Deborah Rhodes has a valid point. In the golf channel bio " Uneven Fairways," there was a wonderful segment on her father, Ted Rhodes. Rhodes was a true "fashion plate." In the way he dressed and in the glorious way he swung a golf club!! Much like the great Ben Hogan, Rhodes would hit shag balls to caddies on a practice range. All the caddy had to do was walk one or two steps in either direction and pick them up like a stack of Easter eggs!! Rhodes may have been the greatest African American golfer ever. Including Tiger Woods!! When I compare him to Hogan, it's because his swing in that segment was virtually identical to that of "The Hawk." A literal work of art. Hogan had a hard, scrabble life on his way to golfing glory. At least he had a shot at golfing glory!! Ted Rhodes was blatantly and criminally denied the opportunity of his rightful place on tour. Beyond any doubt, the greatest "What if" in the history of professional golf.

Correction @ 7:50. Tiger won the Tiger slam between 2000 and 2001 (not 2011 as mentioned). Also, the 4 majors are the Masters, The Open, The U.S. Open and the PGA Championship. You mentioned one of the majors as The Players Championship. It is not.

Ted Rhodes. He's Lee Elders hero. He was the Godfather. I Love your video. But Ted belonged in it. A racist once approached Lee at a tournament and falsely claimed Ted had died to shake Lee. I hope you will do a video on Ted and maybe one on the great Joe Louis. He played a huge part also

Thank you DNA Golf, you finished the reality of knowing the struggles of being a black golfers in the 60's and 1970s. The PGA rule : " The only-white caucasian clause which included only players European descent; and truly excluded black players or any diluted race of foreign golf players. We , as black players, could be a tour caddy to a white pro player, but never a pro player. This was true hypocrisy even in God's eyes. Those achievements of both black golfers , including our men and women should serve as a testament to their struggle to show their talented ability in the sport. All states across this great nation , should have local names who have impacted the lives of young players in the junior pro and senior levels. Keep our past dreams a reality because the struggle to succeed in the sport today is real. Do review my youtube channel: "golfing with gary russell" and "MIamiDude: Ice Daddy. Viewer hit that "like" button and subscribe to my channel. Miami is a wonderful place to play golf. Sunny weather, great beaches and a great night life.
DNA Golf, I did some comments about black historic legacy on youtube: The Master's story about Lee Elder. Ice Daddy(Mia)
