Calvin Peete inspired me to take up the game of golf in the '80s. The head pro at the public golf course where I played and practiced was Pete Brown. Today I am a junior golf coach thanks to these two men. Both men passed away in 2015 two days apart. Thank you for making this video.

As a metro-Detroit man myself, he’s one of my favorite golfers. It just goes to show how important fairways are. About 260 average drive, but he still won 12 times on tour, probably having to hit long irons and fairway woods into par fours, meaning he couldn’t go for the right pins as much but he still got it done and made birdies cuz his short game was excellent. Every time I watch him I’m mesmerized. Fairway after fairway. It seemed like he couldn’t miss even if he tried. Such an excellent player. I bet the numbers would be in the 90 percent range if he was using today’s clubs.

The last time I saw Calvin Peete play in person was a senior tour event in Cincinnati, Ohio. He didn't miss a fairway in the two days I walked with him as a spectator. He was special.

Other than having the bent left arm, Calvin Peete’s swing is very similar to that of the greatest ball striker of all time, Ben Hogan. I believe that is why he was so accurate.

There was a few more. I mentioned Charlie Sifford, Pete Brown, and Lee Elder in the video. They were the most known pioneers. Some others to mention include Ted Rhodes, Bill Spiller, Jim Thorpe, Adrian Stills, Charles Owens, and Jim Dent. There also are many more who whose stories are relatively untold. It wasn’t until 1961 when Charlie Sifford was allowed to earn a PGA Tour card, and soon thereafter, the civil rights act was also passed. Slowly, from there, clubs changed their rules too. I partly hoped that this video would inspire more people in general to pick up the game. As said, Calvin Peete had every reason not to succeed, but succeeded anyway.

I feel like too many people feel sorry for the people that had obstacles in the past but I notice the people that actually endure the road blocks were just focused no matter what was in their way be it physical handicap, racism, or "how bad things may seem". Seems as if the younger generation of blacks are more sensitive to historical facts than the ones who succeed despite.
