HUGE THANKS to ExpressVPN for offering all Food Ranger viewers 3 months free and 49% off their yearly package using this link: ExpressVPN.com/Thefoodranger . Travelers need ExpressVPN to stay safe online and to unblock any site. I personally use it for Netflix, even while at home in Canada, but also while traveling to unblock content and episodes that are geoblocked, and I also use it for security, because airport wifi and hotel wifi is often very insecure, leaving my data vulnerable. By connecting to one of their servers around the world, it’s just like my computer or phone is in that location, and all data sent while connected to their VPN is secure, safe, and private from others to see, so I know that my data won’t be hacked or looked at by others. Thanks so much for watching, and we have tons more videos coming up for you! Please leave me a comment below letting me know what you thought about this episode, thanks so much!!!
Hi Trevor, the ladies laugh when you said "cam on Em" because Em should only use "Em" for some one who are younger than you :). I saw you used "Em" only few ladies who were almost your mom age. Not appropriate. Next time say "Cam on Bac."
Are you single?
Mm
Please come to Bac Lieu

That's how you learn a language, folks. it's challenging and it looks silly. Most are afraid of that discomfort and never learn.
Good job, Trevor. Another great vlog!
Wow so true

I love how genuine Trevor is, there's nothing cringeworthy about him, nothing fake, no silly reactions just for the camera, I love watching him!
check out mark weins dude has a orgasm everytime something touches his lips.
captain blackbeard dude Mark has 5 different levels of orgasim on food. So you still can judge the quality of food. He is just someone love everything he bites
I love him!
the way he pronounce the Vietnamese word is cringy and he's saying it wrong. Calling an older lady "em" is inappropriate.
Drag0nx21 this is very true but atleast he is trying. He means no harm though. Ranger, to say "cam on em" should only refer to younger ladies, or kids. "Em" can refer to different age groups but if you are younger than the person you are refering to, stick to the basic ("cam on"). The people laughed when you said "cam on em" to a lady older than you. Great video otherwise!
I think the women laughed because you said "em" which is used for somebody younger than you, such as a child. She said it back because you are younger than her and they laughed. For an older woman you would use "chi" and for an older man "anh". While I was there I was working in schools so for teachers we would say "co". The safest way to say hello for foreigners is xin chao, especially on first meeting, but it's really cool to see people trying!
If my country reads the literal word of " anh " its quit rude😂 anh is a bad word for me

Hi Trevor! I just wanted to tell you how much i admire your courage for always trying out new things, and not being bashful/scared of embarrassing yourself in front of other people(when speaking a foreign language)! Your earnest attitude is really commendable hahahaha!
Thank you so much Stephanie!
stephanie Yes would just like to second your comment, i watch these videos and admire trevors thirst to try new things. As someone who doesn't it inspires me.
Agreed. Very positive comment. Trevor, I am Vietnamese and I'd like to say thank you for these videos. Keep good health and continue your journey, cheers!
Trevor, thank you for these Vietnam series! Vietnam is my favorite country so far. I have been to Vietnam for 5 times since 2015, and have been motor-biking 3 times throughout Vietnam. The food, the people, I miss Vietnam so much. Watching your video warms my heart I almost got teary. Regards from Yinchuan, Northwest China.
I like how you're very polite and nice to the people
Trevor i watch your videos with my 2 years old son and he shouts n laughs everytime you taste food and make that hmmmm sound lol. we really enjoy your videos.thanks n keep it up.
Dony DeYamoah that's awesome lol
Haha listening to him trying to say Buon Op is soo precious. Very rare to see someone not embarrassed to try speaking a foreign language with the locals.
I watch your vlogs daily, my two best frienda have said they are going to Vietnam this year, they do not want to go with a package, they want to do it on their own. I have passed your RUclips vlogs to them & of Mark Wiens - told them these guys are the very best in the world! Shame I am not going with them. You do not only amazing work, but a great service to travellers & those who wish they could.
Keep up the good work, I love watching your honest eye opening reporting on food - for that I am eternally grateful.
Thank you Food Ranger.
There's a lot of Vietnamese restaurants where I live, and I have to say the food is incredible! The food is so light and fragrant. I couldn't even begin to imagine how amazing it must be in Vietnam.
I'm glad there are adventurous people like you. You eat and enjoy things I would never even consider. great videos. thanx
Ayeee I’m from Australia but I’m half Vietnamese! Glad to see more people trying viet food! 🇻🇳👌🏽🙌🏽
I'm from Australia as well, it's 3 am here in Sydney. What are your thoughts on his Vietnamese? Asking cause I cringe when I hear it. (From Vietnamese background)
David Phung I mean it is cringe but I can’t blame him! At least his trying to speak n learn the language ahaha plus it’s funny especially when he says ‘Hmmmmm’ 😂
It's just only me or any one else here who likes the video without even watching it great work .👍🏼
Thanks Erum!!
Yep me too. Lol
Erum 123 everytime
I dislike without watching it.
I gotta say while experiencing these culinary gems looks great, it's his ability to study these other cultures and languages that I really envy!

hey buddy!
The Food Ranger How much it cost for a video
including travel &rent
Oh my, Vietnamese food seems so healthy with all of the veggies condiments!!!! So refreshing and fresh
Btw, at 11:20 when you said "something wrong', it was not really wrong, but usually when you talk to an older woman in Vietnamese you should say" Cảm ơn CHỊ", "chi" means an older woman, you said "em" which means a younger woman, that was why they laughed, haha, no worry, it's not a big problem because you are a foreigner
Trevor was just "flirting"... got her to like him instantly... right???
ooooh great to know!!
The Food Ranger Hi Trevor, you can just say "xin chao" and "cam on", that'd be ok in any situation.
people love to see foreigners speak Vietnamese, especially when they make mistake like that.
Bac = elders
Co = auntie
Chu = uncle
Chi = big sister
Anh = big bro
Em = younger peer (male or female)
Chau = niece/nephew/child
Whenever I watch videos of you in Vietnam, I feel so happy because it's my homeland, whether it's Hanoi, Hue, or Saigon!
Trevor is one of the best street food vlogger out there. I’ve been watching his videos for a long time now. And he’s the main reason why I conquer my fear to go out of my comfort zone to travel. Because of his fashion to street food show I was able to see the beauty of Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia aside from it’s astonishing wonderful places and people my main motive is to witness and taste their food. Thank you so much Trevor James you’re such a great influencer. I am looking forward to see and taste the variety of foods in India and China.
This channel deserves millions of subscribers and maybe even a tv show
This is the third video I have viewed. You're doing a great job Trevor. You have a Great attitude and we need more of this on the planet and less contention. How lucky we are ourselves to travel and experience the cultures around the world. Keep up the good work.
It's good that you are very respectful to all of the cities and countries you visited. You are representing your country very well and all visitors to any countries should be like you.
hello everyone
i am vietnamese people
as you can see in this video, vietnamese foods are very nice and cheap. But somewhere still have many place can chop off your wallet, i mean they can give your the price more expensive than it cost. So whenever you want to visit Vietnam you must have the guide who can show you where to eat or resting place without trapping.
Thanks for loving my country.
Cảm ơn mọi người đã yêu quý đất nước tôi.
Lmao
Chef Wilson i see u copy comment everywhere
Hiệp Nguyễn Hoàng bạn thật tuyệt !
$1.76 for that incredible bowl of snails & noodles. Jeeeezus . . . But here in the US - $4.78 for a Big Mac. LMAO Hà Nội thật tuyệt
and Big Mac is GMO beef... nothing organic. that bowl of escargot easily cost US$30 in normal restaurants.
PepsisWarrior And here in US even the most poor make $50+ a day whereas in Vietnam they are lucky to make $10 :) the direct currency translation makes it seem cheap however it is equally if not more expensive when you consider wage difference.
PepsisWarrior - Even more incredible when you add up the $2k airfare and hotel to the price of the snails! Spend $500 here on a 5 star dinner and save the headaches.
Well actually in Vietnam those food arent really that expensive. But because u guys are foreigners they make it more expensive because u guys don't know.... well... u know we are poor in here so we have to do everything to make money BUT, not all of us do.... that actually only cost like 1$ - 1,5$.
Sorry for my bad english.
As you can see that "Banh cuon" only cost 20k VND which is not a lot
And that "Quan oc" should only cost 30k VND around here
I really like how much efforts you put into communicating with people. You seem to be a really nice guy.
Loving the cross culture food ranging. You're putting the hard work in but rest assured we see it in the quality, good job Trevor 👍
One True David Adams me too
Thank you very much!!!
I was going to leave a comment but this guy said it perfectly. Awesome stuff!
The Food Ranger ❤
Amazing channel! It would be really neat if you did a deeper dive into the history of the area you're visiting or some research/background into what you're eating. Thanks for sharing!
I just love seeing the people in the background smile when he takes his first bite and gives the thumbs up

IKR? I wanted to tell him to say pho cuon is the same word in pho, but he kept saying it differently when he pronounces it in pho cuon vs pho. And one is more like "mote" but heavy on the long o and a bit softer on the t sound than saying moat. And when he said oc, I just wanted to say, "just say oke" as in Coke, but minus the c sound at the beginning or okay minus the last syllable. LOL
Lady: Ốc 😊😊😊
Duy Huân Nguyễn fgbhj
I laughed too hard at that.
There's a big difference
Food Ranger after every bite, "Mmmmm. Ohhhhhoohh". 😂😂😂

Wow amazing trevor , your videos are soo much fun ........Amazing....you should upload more often
It’s so funny how you called every lady ‘em’ they loved it!! It made their day for sure.
Keep it up dude love your videos.
11'20s you told her: "Cám Ơn Em". In VietNam we call someone "Em" when they are younger than us. So the people around the stand laught. You'r so cute.
I'm so glad you went there and learned Vietnamese, you're my role model! I personally love food, and travelling, and you've inspired me to try this in the future!
Trevor: "Check it out, it's Trevor James!"
Me: "Oh yeah, Tai Hao Le!"
royalbengal101 which mean?
Tai Hao Le = Excellent in Chinese
Love your videos - glad to see you changed your intro a little "... going for a full on ... experience..." was getting a little old. Also, you're making us proud of Canucks abroad - I too found we were well accepted around the world - like a typical Canadian you are open, welcoming and respectful of others, their culture, language, etc. Thanks for all you do !
Keep up the good work bro! Because of your show I'm learning to speak and understand a different language. Thank you!
12:19 Trevor orders food from a random guy
*it was that moment that Trevor knew, he fucked up*

He is not a random guy, you can see him handing the money over to the owner (?) later..

I couldn't stop cringing each time he said "chao em" to a grandma lol

The Food Ranger good stuff, Vietnamese is very hard to pronounce for some because of the tones
abhinav pal i thought the video was broken 😂
Walter Mymala the Vietnam language heavily influenced with French because it was a France colony for over a century ? just a friendly question ,
Herman Chow oh yeah, eacargot, French bread for banh mi, etc
You are really good at introducing food to the audience. As a Chinese from Chengdu, I can totally feel your passion on these Vietnamese food, they looked so good and I never knew them. Before watching this video, I only knew Pho and Vietnamese spring roll, now Vietnam would be on my list of next vacation, definitely would follow your list;) thank you for the vid!
Best food reviewer!!
HAS786 what about Mark Wiens?
Jason Reedy Mark wienes is good, but I like Trevor more because he actually tries to commune with the locals.
Fresh herbs plenty and also many dishes are fish based. Different approach butdo love the fresh herbs in dishes. Friendly people. Might be an idea to show non street foods too sometimes to give out a complete culinary scene? Thanks for the vid!
It's very nice of you to come to my country and introduce very awesome street food to the world. I can tell that you did enjoy eating them. Love to see you trying to speak Vietnamese language. Great job! Nice smile too. :)
The way he say cilantro though, really Trevor James. It just get to me when he/you say it. There is nothing wrong it. Everyone say things different in different part of this WORLD call 🌏.
I miss Vietnam food thank you for your video
This is so great! I’ll be visiting Vietnam for the first time later this week!!! I hope all the food I try is just like all of this, yummy 😋
I LOVE how CHEAP the food is!

22:35
Im just like the chicken...With my mouth open drooling.
all the yummy food.
"Chao em" to a bunch of old ladies, hilarious.
that was a man!
Chào em
Means what?
Em is when you refer to anyone younger than you. For older women - its different depending on age. Co = Aunty (middle aged), Ba or Bac = Older women (grandma). For men its Chu or cau (middle aged), Anh older but not too old, and Ong or Bac for Grandpa
I was laughing like crazy when i heard that LOL, but he was cute.
people can judge him. but this guy makes one of classiest, informative and quality food videos. Trever James is great
Nice vid, Trevor!
btw, you can just say Xin chào (Hello) or Cảm ơn (Thanks) stand alone, dont need to add personal pronouns "em" in your sentences. Because "em" just uses for the person who younger than you. There are many personal pronouns in Vietnamese: "anh", "chị","cô","chú",... so carefully when you use it.
Nguyen Thanh its not a big deal imo. If you are Vietnamese, yes we should carefully use these pronouns. But for foreigners, its hard for them to remember all of these and know how to use them properly. I would just teach 'chào em' to all foreigners because it's easy to remember and all every lady loves to be younger than their age.
Hey Trevor, how was the weather in Vietnam, I've heard that it's very humid there. Also, does it effect your camera lens quality in any way when making the video?
GreenHouse wet, like really really wet. Thats how Hanoi is.
Please prepare for some suddenly rain, have some water-proof boots, raincoats or umbrellas with you all the time. It can rain for only 10 minutes or maybe the whole week. So pack your stuff carefully if you want to travel in the North of Vietnam.
The way he communicates with vendors is awesome, he is such an adorable guy, so warm, kind and friendly
I hope Trevor James and Ting make a stop through Hue! I'm heading there in Sept and need to find all the deep local places for the street food.
We are in Hue now, and have a Hue video coming up soon, gotta eat a little more then edit!
Wow check it out internet, Trevor James replied me!
Are you guys coming back to Vancouver for your wedding? It'll be a food adventure feast!
can't wait to see your Hue video! :)
You live in Vancouver? Trevor lived in Vancouver? I live in Vancouver! Wow!!!

Awesome, Ranger!! Loved it. Never would have thought of traveling to Hanoi. Thanks for sharing!
This video is higher quality than in real life
Wow so glad you loved it!
800k Subs! Congratulation Trevor 👍
Those stools are super tiny. We went on a walking food tour in Hanoi. Took us to a small dessert place. Me being a clumsy big guy. I missed the stool, fell and almost took out the whole place. Lol! They are nice people, all had a laugh about it.
Are there different type of snails or should i just go to my local park and start digging?
EliteGamerShow there are edible and non edible snails. Careful of where and what snails you pick.
EliteGamerShow River snail
EliteGamerShow River snail
Please don't do that.. snails may have consumed toxins so going to your garden and eating the snails there is potentially introducing parasites and all assortments of bacteria into your body. There's videos on how you can prep garden snails to eat but the process means you're basically feeding the snails in a container for a month or so to 'purge' them of anything before they're safe. If you want to eat snails best just go to a place that sells them for eating.
there 're many kind of snail here in vietnam. the snails he ate live in the river and it different with the snails in your garden
You addressed the older lady @ 11:08 as a younger person, that's why they laughed. It should be cô, for elder females.
That is what I said when he said that.
You are like a Vietnamese. Video content is very engaging. Thank you for your sincerity!
"You having a good day ting that's the most important ting" 😅
IamTheDopeboi FYI That's his girlfriend.
Delicious food!❤
I hope I can visit Vietnam😍
Trevor crossing busy streets like a pro!
Is eating snails part of "traditional" Vietnamese food or a result of French influence ? Thanks.
I don't know actually it came from, but I think the way French cooks snail is much different with Vietnam's now.
Sky King pho is from the French???
Wait.... So baguettes are used for banh mi..... "mi".... Damn that sounds French.
In French, a "mie de pain" is a loaf of bread. The word "mie", I assume sounds the same as "mi" in banh mi.
I see a connection.
I was really surprised when people mentioned that pho was the result of french influence, but researching some more shows that a lot of sites discuss this theory. "The general theory held by most Vietnamese culinary experts is that the word "pho" is a corruption of the French "feu" or "fire." Pho could be a Vietnamese adaptation of the French soup "pot au feu" or French beef stew, which the French brought to Vietnam when they came to rule the country "
shut up! Not everything we have is French influenced. Ridiculously when someone say our pho is inspired by the French, just like saying that we never ate beef or rice noodle before.....Give me a break! Please have some sense when talking.
That's look so yummy. I want to visit Vietnam too 💕
Sir you give respect to all kinds of foods and cultures. That's so nice
Vietnamese food is rated perfect as expected 😎
If North Korea had food, Trevor would probably be there too.
Phoo zzy they have food of cos. How come ppl liver without it
Trevor. Another great vlog! just love ur food tour
i swear every time he says wow, i can see his want for attention through the eyes as he scans everyone to see if they're giving it to him.
Okay and?
everytime i watch you, i get really hungry!
That shrimp paste sauce is hella strong, so you only need to dip it very lightly, at least 1/4 of the amount you were doing. Fantastic video. Makes me want to go back and appreciate it all again!
when you say cam on (thank you) em (pertains to younger person)..you can also say chi instead of em if you're talking to a slightly older female......or replace em with co (pertaining to a female that could be as old as your aunt or mom .....or use ba pertaining to a female as old as your grandma
@The Food Ranger - This. For future reference, using chi (say it with a downwards inflection, like how of a low baritone opera singer would say it) is safe for females older than you and em for younger people.
Just say "cảm ơn, xin chào" is ok, not "em". Becaue there are many way to call a women /men in Vietnamese
Em: honey/little sister/kids in general. Cam on: thank you. That's why they're laughing lol.
Oreo Oso he calls every lady Em.. Even though some of them are older than him 🤣
in one of the other videos in Hanoi he called an older lady chú and she looked a bit confused. he is trying really hard and that is commendable by itself! On top of that he is just so enthusiastic about everything.
