You can use any sifted dry sand (quartz, river), better washed, but without clay deposits.
For the manufacture of polymer sand products, they usually mix: sand - 74%, plastic - 25%, pigment - 1%

You are supposed to grind up the plastic into tiny pieces before you melt it.

Not everyone has access to a shredder machine. In the absence of a shredder, it can be melted directly without shredding. It will only take a longer time.
