I feel like this would be such a bizarre and surreal thing to hear about when you’re isolated in there. Like the apocalypse happened or something and you didn’t even know about it

Here in Brazil they warned the houseguests, for the first time, about the COVID-19 march/16 and many of them started to cry, it was very sad and weird. The host guy of the show told them about the coronavirus pandemic in the world, let a infectologist doctor talk with them to explain all the preventive measures such as washing hands and etc. And as there are two doctors as houseguests, the host asked them to teach how they wash their hands in the hospital.

I don't even watch the show, and I'm in Australia. I don't even know who these people are, but that was incredibly heartbreaking to watch. I can't imagine how frightened they would've felt as they received this news. Stay safe and healthy, everyone.

The whole point of the show is they are not allowed any update on the outside world. It’s not something that happens in the show. So when they sit you all down to give you an update on the situation of the world, you might panic a little.
last time they announced something about news was when 9/11 happened, and a contestant had a family member die in the attacks. i’d be scared too

It’s really weird seeing this. We’ve all been exposed to the growing severity of it everyday. We know what exactly is going on and how bad it really is and then there’s these people who’ve had all of this just dumped on them
compared to how they told it to the German contestants of big brother this here was kind of a shit show, they basically gave them zero information about the virus and what it does.
I assume that these contestants knew about coronavirus before it started to spread worldwide. I think the German contestants didn't know anything.

But either way, they should have given more detailed info on what it does, who it affects and what governments of the worlds responses have been.. i.e lockdowns etc.
They should have told them how to protect themselves, such as distancing and providing hand sanitisers.
They made it sound like it was the end of the world with how it was announced also.
The germans on the other hand almost played it down too much, and made it sound less serious, however still provided more info

I've lost track of what we've had to pay to get just a fraction of them home. 🤦

I get chills watching this. The world we live in seems so unreal. We're adapting. I think thats why so many of us gets emotional watching this. We barely stop and allow ourselves to feel, we're in "corona-mode". Sooo much has changed.

I remember watching this at work and crying. My roommate's husband worked at the CDC (in a different area than you'd think) and she was warning us something big was coming after I came home from Christmas with my family in January 2020. Life hasn't been the same since.
*Announcer:* "I have some news from the outside world...there's no easy way to say this but the covid-19 virus has now infected over 4 billion people with over 750 million deaths. Furthermore, the recently deceased have begun to re-animate and feed on the living. We will keep you updated as events unfold."
That was the actual plot of Dead Set, where people in a Big Brother-style show are unaware the world has ended in a zombie apocalypse until the food stops coming and there's no contact any more.

+Ms.Bubs4fun I recommend Dead Set Serious, a re-edit which removes all of the comedy parts, which don't really work anyway. What you get is pretty intense.

The Germany BB Cast were just told and they have been in the house since the beginning of February, can't imagine how they're feeling right now.

Same here in Brazil. The cast thought the apocalypse had begun as they announced there was a quarentine going on on the outside world.
Also, here the program presenter is shown on live on a TV in the living room. They invited a infectologist to talk about the virus. As the presenter told the doctor "I'm gonna give you some space because I'm supposed to be 1 meter far from you" the whole cast started crying

The Italian Celebrity BB cast have been in the house since the beginning of JANUARY. A father in law of one the housemates died by COVID 19.

It's so crazy that they basically went from knowing nothing to being shoved in the deep end. I couldn't imagine not knowing anything about the virus and then immediately finding out that my family might be in jeopardy

This is so familiar to me because I was in the psychiatric hospital when covid started spreading. We felt safe there because we were in isolation, but it felt so powerless at the same time because we couldn’t see our families or the outside world. We ended up getting evacuated to isolate with our families and make space for covid patients
I like how they didnt even give any info on the virus. Just that it's a pandemic. Not what it does or how deadly it is or anything

Yes, it's true that more people get better than die and yes, more people die from other illnesses but get your facts checked. Go to Italy and expose yourself. I hope you never have to go to a hospital where a doctor has to make a difficult decision about who to save because there are a lack of supplies and he's not sure if you should be selected!

I remember back before Covid-19 was a pandemic there was this lady in the comment section of a video about Milan cancelling fashion week or something like that asking if it was safe to travel to Italy. Others warned her to be extra cautious if she was gonna travel. Meanwhile I shared a story to her how the first Covid-19 fatality outside China happened. A few hours later she replied to me saying she had her flight cancelled.
Sometimes I just think about that. What if I didn't make her slightly paranoid with the story I told her? What if she didn't listen to our warnings? She could've went to Italy and got infected, or worse. For once I was glad that I was the type to read comments and reply whenever I could. I felt like I helped out from the other side of the world, and that feeling is kinda awesome tbh.

I was in US Army Basic Combat Training from January to March. I had very minimal contact with the outside world. I had no idea what covid-19 was until the day before Family Day. The night before Family Day, every trainee was excited and cleaning everything to impress their families. Then that night, our Drill Sergeants announced that Family Day is cancelled. We were only allowed to see our families on Graduation Day for 90 minutes. Almost everyone was depressed and crying. It was awful.

im surprised they reacted this way. my first reaction would be disbelief and that this is like a movie. But I wouldn't cry right away.
same I would laugh thinking it was a windup. We all have had a chance to start getting our heads around it and adapt to the new normal of not being able to see our families, keeping 6 feet apart, worrying about food shortages, worrying about our or healthcare systems, wondering what happens next when our leaders test positive... I can't imagine what these guys are feeling right now. They should have been told further information - that there are cases in canada, that people are in quarantine.... I know if I was there and someone causally dropped 'oh by the way there's a global pandemic' I'd be having visions of the zombie apocalypse where everyone is dying. So far it is terrible, it is hard and it is frightening but when you're in it and you know your family is ok, your neighbour is ok, your friends are ok it makes it a little easier to process and have some level of perspective that it isn't end times just yet.

Its weird watching this in 2023. Kind of seeing their reactions and hearing about the WHO declaring it a pandemic in March 2020... I suddenly just got like a pang of fear and like tears welted in my eyes. I didnt cry and wasn't scared when this stuff was actually happening 3 years ago, but going back and looking at old videos its like feelings are just rushing out .

I was in detox when this broke out, so same thing to cell phone no internet, just brief conversation with family over the facility phone. Was a very weird experience hearing just bits and pieces of what was really going on.
