Just developed this allergy. Everytime I eat steak//beef 4-8 hrs later my vision starts spiraling like a kaleidescope for 30 to 40 seconds. Very scary, panic-inducing feeling. Guess Im done with beef :(.

Keep doing these interviews with folks. It helps to hear. I’m going to ask my doctor for a blood test or buy one myself.

I was just diagnosed this week. I had been having episodes of hives and severe anaphylaxis over the last 4 years. I am 42 years old with no prior history of allergies so when it first happened i was terrified and had no idea what was happening or why. My symptoms start with severe hives and often progress to severe stomach pain and full on anaphylaxis, passing out on the floor. The episodes were sometimes months apart even though I had been eating red meat regularly. I work outside in wetlands and woods frequently and often get tick bites despite precautions. This last year the symptoms have escalated and I finally found an allergist who has heard of this and got me the blood test.

We're sorry to hear that you were recently diagnosed. Tick prevention is definitely not fun. We hope our pre-treated permethrin clothing is a simple way to give yourself another arm up on the ticks.

I was just diagnosed this week with Alpha-gal. Not sure how long I've had it. I've been sick for years. Doctors can't find anything wrong, I've had tests, everything always comes out fine. Mainly because they tell you to not eat before your appointment. They even removed my gallbladder thinking it must have been leaking, even tho I passed the 1st test and they didn't really see anything on the second. I was so tired of hearing myself whining that my stomach hurt. I would have to just stop eating all together cause I didn't know what was causing it. I also had bad back pain, swollen hands... rashes, drops in blood pressure, turning pale and nearly passing out. I was just all kinds of messed up. I didn't realize it all was connected. I've been going on for close to 7 years with it just getting worse and worse. I thought this is what's gonna be my death. I've not had anaphylactic shock, I'm not sure if I would know if it was having it..but my stomach had gotten so swollen I thought about going to the hospital a few times. It takes like a week for it to go away. So I appreciate this video. I'm trying to learn how to live with this now that I know what is actually wrong. I know to look for milk in the ingredients but whey didn't dawn on me till I heard him. So that probably saved me from a week of tummy trouble. Thanks

How long do the rash usually last when you get them ? Minutes? Hours?

    • @blackleyful

For me it was days to weeks but no rash since finding out the diagnosis and following an avoidance diet.

My hives/rashes appear within minutes of even touching a beef dog treat.

I believe Alpha gal sensitivity is a thyroid related disease... Hashimoto's disease is also part of it in the gastrointestinal condition.
