  • 3D printing technology is booming, and it could revolutionize industries like food manufacturing and pharmaceuticals due to the technology’s high level of personalization. Researchers in UConn’s Complex Fluids Lab are experimenting with printing 3D candies using a method to create candies that are tunable in terms of texture and appearance.
The researchers start with a powder bed, in this case, sugar, over which the print heads move back and forth, much like a home printer, where food-grade dye and glycerol as a liquid binder ‘ink’, dispensed in tiny drops. With some program adjustments, the possibilities are endless.
