DIY internal living wall with irrigation

- We love our outdoor living wall and wanted to recreate it inside our flat. It will help to boost the oxygen levels in the flat as well as add some rich greens to the colours in the room. We wanted to make sure it grew well and did not need more maintenance than possible so we designed an irrigation system to help with keeping the plants healthy. We used shower tanking products to ensure there were no leaks and decided on ferns as the plants of choice due to the light levels in the flat. We wanted to share this with you so that if you wanted to have a go at something similar you might be able to learn something from our experience.

Very interesting and absolutely beautiful living wall! 👍
Nice execution, but reservoir is way to small, you need at least 10 liters, plants will need extra light, a small led lamp would help.
No soil technic with irrigation mat textile would have been better given the location and the space available.
Yes we have found an LED would have helped the top few plants as they have not done that well.
wow very helpful🤩
Aamazing!, does the water pump working 24/7, or you give it a break sometimes??
Thanks! I put it on a timer so that it turns on in the morning and I can adjust the duration
@@offgridscotland thank you vvery much
Hi can l use pum for aquarium?
Hi, yes this is an aquarium pump although I don't have much experience with aquariums so you might need to check if this one is right for you.
You need to check the HEAD of the pump.
The " head" specification of the pump tells you how high (max. head) the water will be pushed by the pump.
Go for a bit more head than you actually need.
Aquarium pumps are often used for this type of green wall .
If you live in a place with hot summers , make your water reservoir at least FOUR times the size ( volume ) shown here , because if the water level drops below the pump inlet ( dry sump ) you will burn out the pump. Evaporation in summer can be more than one may think. Check reservoir often to make sure that it`s topped up..
@@harryme472 Thanks for the great info!
Please update how did it go....
Hi, The wall system itself is functioning great, the waterproofing is working well and the irrigation is good. I think I made an error in choosing ferns as they don't seem to be happy with the light levels. I will be replanting with some trailing plants such as creeping jenny in the spring to see how they do.
@@offgridscotland u could give a try with vining pothos , and philodendrons. Syngoniums wil also do great... grow light wil help i guess ....
@@kirtidoctor Thanks! yes I had considered adding a grow light to the very top as that is the least lit area but couldn't plan a good enough cable route for the power
Great job but x2 on lighting and reservoir.
Thanks, Yea I agree on the lighting and resevoir
@@offgridscotland great job and great video quality
