I can't believe I haven't found this goldmine earlier, excited to get stuck into your off-grid content. I'm hoping to start a similar adventure in the next few years so great to watch your experiences. Have you utilized the 1000 huts planning policy at all?

This is no criticism; I am more than impressed by your efforts. However, many an off-gridder spends an inordinant amount of time in replacing their hosehold power with 'off-grid' power. I think the struggle should be to remove yourself from the need for power. If you consider the expertise, engineering, materials, exploitation, etc. involved is creaing just one of your solar panels then you may see this. Therefore the only way you and many others can be off'grid is because you have the luxury of the masses who live on-grid providing you with the means to live off grid. How long will your solar panels last. How long the inverter. How long the bearings in your water impeller. As I said, not a criticism at all but an observation.

microinverter may let you put cheap little microinverters on power sources that need it for transmission but it can give them a grid source eg solar microinverters a mile away

Love the channel but arrrrrghhhh! When you said you were changing the channel name I was thinking great, he can sort out the capitalisation issue of ‘Off grid Scotland’ which should have been ‘Off Grid Scotland’. Now you change it to ‘Beyond The Workbench’ which should be ‘Beyond the Workbench’. That aside, great context.

My drill goes all way tho like to hollowness as if the board is super thin it’s a uk new build very cheap housing association I tried to put curtain holders they had small plugs I tapped of the drill bit before I even got to the tape the still bit had like gone all way through so the plugs only hold a small amount of the screw like just the end cause plug too far in 😭I could cry it’s so hard to even put a mirror up I try so hard to do it and it always fails don’t have a guy around to help so I do try myself but fail every time ❤

I’ve been following you for quite a long time it seems and I look forward to each new video as it comes out - i think the rebrand is timely and good as I’ve always wondered how you generate enough income longer term as an off gridder to pay for things you can’t barter or grow eg council tax or fuel/tax/insurance/parts/repairs for cars or quad bikes! I’d like to see some videos on the economics longer term of living as you do in such an interesting way, anyway enough of a ramble and good luck for the future!

Very, very few if any, truely truly off gridself sufficient (never go to shops, use utilities or NHS and sans mobile phone for emergencies) hermits these days, in Scotland or elsewhere 🙂Love the vibe, and the rational for rebranding. What matters is content, and it looks like you have upped the ante and boy is that exciting! Keep up the great off grid -off the work bench work.

Congratulations on reaching your first really significant milestone of 10K Subs, the design for the house looks amazing, not sure about the interiors but then it isn't my house, I'm still looking forward to see what you create and how. :) As for the upcoming projects well what can you say, talk about varied lol, I like the new channel name too, I've got to say it Rob, bugger those who split hairs about you not being "truly" off grid, you have a very very young family, connectivity is absolutely essential and you'd be derelict in not ensuring reliable access to services & facilities etc. Anyway, onwards & upwards, looks like some great stuff on the way and I wish you and yours much success.

I've always thought of "Off Grid" as not being connected to the mains power grid, mains gas, water and sewage services. These are all physical service connections, having an internet service that you power yourself and is picked up over the air, I personally don't consider being " on the grid". What are we? Savages! I like the new name. 👍 Claiming the whole of 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 off grid was a little OTT. 😆

The quality of your LTE connection largely depends on the LTE band you are connected to, as well as the RSRP and RSRQ values. While you are receiving good signals, LTE Band 3 operates at a relatively low frequency (1710-1880 MHz), which might be causing some limitations. If the tower supports other LTE bands such as 1, 7, 40, 41, 42, or 43, try locking onto these higher frequency bands. They may offer better bandwidth and improved internet speeds.

Where are the exhaust fumes from the heaters going? One looks like it's going out right under a window or up through the floor. I personally would make a chimney for them, and have it up and away from the building.

Friend of mine bought a 2016 Nissan Leaf - car had been in a crash, but it has a 30 kWh battery so he just uses the car for electricity storage, cost him under £2.5k.

Wow, great videos. I too am in the Highlands looking to get internet off grid. So in the end of your set up you ran an ether net cable from your mast to your house modem. What else did you end up with equipment wise on the mast? I too will most likely use a hydro genny for power and my water source is basically across the single track so much much closer than you had to deal with. I am new to your channel and am looking forward to watching your other videos
