He leveraged his Dad's Continental Cable windfall to buy the Celtics. He is now cashing out for a ridiculous multiple. He won't be an ex-owner until 2028. He has a blind child. Family stuff matters.

He wants over a billion dollars in liquid cash. Let's not act like it's some benevolent act of charity for towards his family. This is a way to maximize his liquid cash. At the prime of his life, it's perfectly reasonable for him to want to do it, but let's not pretend it's some act of benevolence towards his family.

When looking at the salary cap, the skyrocketing NBA revenues must also be looked at. They have already been increasing in recent years and will explode with new tv contract. On top of that, they will expand by 2 new teams bringing another big check to each NBA team. Here are some important numbers for the Celtics:
Celtics team revenue in recent years:
    2015/2016: 200 million
    2018/2019: 304 million
    2022/2023: 443 million

Due to things such as more corporate sponsorships, the teams have been able to increase their revenue substantially. The Celtics were up to 443 million in 22/23 which is 243 million more than 15/16. Except for the covid years, revenue has been growing every year. They probably made much more in 23/24. The team with the highest revenues by far is the dynastic Warriors with yearly revenues around 775 million. It pays to be a champion. This number should continue to skyrocket for the Celtics.
The previous revenue increases don't even include the new NBA tv contract which is massive. At 76 billion over 11 years, it increases the amount of revenue per team by another 142 million. This is new money that the Celtics are paying back to players thru salary.
The NBA is going to start the process of adding 2 new teams. When that is complete, it is expected to bring another check of 300 million for each NBA team.
The new revenues make it clear that the Celtics can afford the new salaries/taxes. That's why so many teams are still spending. They can afford to, it just depends on if they want to.

I think it's more than just money. He's not rich enough to pay the penalty tax for upcoming years so he pass it to another one. That's mean players'll get money and we'll continue winning. He do it for the players, for the fans and above all, for the C's community. He deserves a praise after all.

The power plant is closing next year. Wynn resorts is buying the property. It’s across the mystic from Boston. The TD garden is on prime real estate. If Wynn bought a controlling interest in the Celtics that very well could happen.

The moves have nothing to do with the sale. Any new potential owner will know exactly what it is worth. They can deduct a little from the sales prices to account for the luxury tax which is peanuts compared to the sale price. And no one even asks how much new money is coming in from the new massive tv contract. That is a lot of extra yearly income that they didn't have before. How about a little journalism for a change?
