- A playthrough of Sega's 1989 arcade racing game, Turbo OutRun.
Played through on the machine's default settings.
Turbo OutRun is the direct arcade sequel to Sega AM2's 1986 classic OutRun. The original game is well known for its "super scalar" graphics that simulated 3D by quickly scaling heavily layered 2D sprites, its iconic soundtrack, and its branching course design.
This sequel isn't the revelation that the first game was, but blazing about in your cherry red Ferrari is as fast-paced and as exciting as it ever was. The branching paths and the selectable radio stations are now gone, but the new theme, car upgrades, and the addition of the titular turbo feature help things feel fresh.
Instead of tearing up vaguely European motorways, Turbo OutRun now has you cruisin' the USA. Beginning in New York and ending in Los Angeles, you race across 16 tracks that are all themed by city or area, and you are given a rival this time as well - that douchebag in the white Porsche will do his utmost to steal your girl. If he hits the checkpoints ahead of you, she'll run off with him, your million point bonus, and your dignity. Oof.
Turbo OutRun plays just as well as OutRun, especially with a steering wheel, and it looks great given that it was running on an aging hardware platform. The weather effects are a bit cheesy (what is with that rain?), the city themes can be lame (why does Dallas look like Morocco?), and the comparative lack of courses do drive down its replayability a bit, but it still feels like OutRun, and it's still a blast to play. For me, that's enough reason to keep it around.

"...cruisin' the USA."
I see what you did there.
Turbo OutRun isn't quite as iconic as the original, but it sure does deliver an excellent sense of speed.
Just wondering do you make money for these walkthroughs or does Nintendo take all the money?
@@ryderflix10 It's not a lot, but I do make some from them.
@@NintendoComplete cool because I'm thinking about making a gaming channel also how do you record your Nintendo?

Do you hope that the outrun games are the next arcade 1ups?
@@Invidente7 I'm actually pretty okay with the Switch versions. I just hope they also put out Outrun 2 for it. I already have a red 4-slot Neo Geo cabinet in my living room, so I don't have much room for another arcade cabinet lol.
What a wonderful Outrun sequel! Wonderfully produced by Yu Suzuki and beautifully directed by Satoshi Mifune(credited as BIN), the director of Virtua Striker. And the Ferrari F40 is awesome! Nice longplay!
Think I made it to San Antonio..... back in 1989 ...... in the movable car in the Arcade..... 30p a go
Even I think the Nintendo Switch must deserve other Sega Arcade games such as Turbo Outrun, Super Hang-On, Hang-On, Power Drift, Enduro Racer, and After Burner. However, they are not done yet even if they did Daytona USA 1 and 2 and Indy 500.
Like the game, fun game, worth playing, but it never had the same exciting appeal like Outrun did for me bro.
It's games like this that really make me miss my childhood, when there were a lot more arcades around (or even a place like Chuck E. Cheese's). I hear that band playing the shop theme from _Fantasy Zone_ . They have great taste! 😉Also, watching the rival racer cry when the girlfriend kisses you is the funniest thing ever.
in 1989 this was mindblowing
we were crazy about ferrari and about police and blondes and american lifestyle and about racing...
Sometimes, Turbo OutRun really chews a lot more than it can swallow. There's a quite a bit of framedrops on highly demanding spots with a lot of objects. The worst I've seen it drop is down to 15 FPS, but it usually hovers on 20-30 FPS
Really good music
Fantastic game! 👍🏻
Congratulations 12:32
2:37 Indianapolis is looking much more desolate and apocalyptic then I remember.
Hahaha it's the Mad Max Parkway
Hope it comes out on Switch..... Sega Ages
Sadly, a LOT of home ports of this game, with the exception of the FM Towns version, were NOT so good. Even the Megadrive version BLOWS.
It was made by Tiertex. Of course it does
What's the point of the overheat meter since nothing seems to happen to you when it fills up?
Limits the turbo usage.
If you try to use the Turbo ability while the meter is still highlighted on the red OVERHEAT part, it won't let you use it and flashes "OVERHEAT!" on the top of the screen.
The c64 version is the best!!
You should do a walkthrough of american dad intro
Carro conversível pegando chuva kkkkkkkk
Completely injudicious use of turbo! Need to conserve it in stage one for use in stage 2 to get through rain storm/debris-filled road/barricades and cop car!
