    Andrea Russo's work (he has an entire album exploring the technique): www.flickr.com/photos/9874847...

    This technique was first explored in depth by Andrea Russo then also explored widely by Benjamin Parker, which is how I originally discovered the technique. You can find their explorations into the technique on Andrea's Flickr page or on Benjamin’s website. They’ve done some amazing things with it, the possibilities with chiaroscuro are endless so I highly recommend checking their work out.
    The term chiaroscuro in art is used to refer to the strong use of contrast between light and dark, or the use of light and dark to create an illusion of three dimensional volume on a flat surface. In Italian chiaro means clear or bright and oscuro means obscure or dark so the word roughly translates to light-dark. And I believe the term was first used in origami by Andrea Russo who is an Italian origami artist.

      I just used a 6 inch sheet of kami for the smaller spiral. I used a 9 inch sheet for the bigger one that's in the thumbnail

    Hey Kevin if we colappse it wil it work as a flasher??

    • @ArtOfFold
      @ArtOfFold  3 года назад

      I don't think it will work quite like a flasher where you can let go and it will close itself naturally, but you can make it shrink and expand similarly with your hands. Give it a try and let me know how it goes!

    İt was all food until you started folding the creases, the outer layer is somehow manageable but anything beyond that isn’t, I really couldn’t understand or tell what you were doing

      Have you tried the first video in my chiaroscuro series? It's the chiaroscuro square and it's a lot easier than this one, but still looks really cool. It should be really helpful to fold that one first if you haven't yet ruclips.net/video/9YMLyzFIAz0/видео.html
