Pokemon Masters sorta confirms that Cyrus is the child off the family that perished on the Old Chateau. It makes sense now that he would have grown up in Sunnyshore being raised buy his grandparents and completely isolating himself, preferring to tinker with machines completely avoiding human interaction. It all kinds circles in on his nihilistic personality. He views spirit as something vague and incomplete because he has detached himself from from emotions due to the trauma he must have endured as a child. Going to the extremes as to completely destroy the world and create a new one without other people/pokemon is kinda insane though.
@@rocketeer9183 people still think fnaf 2 is a prequel (even tho scott never even said it was and the game itself prove it is a sequel) so jayy most likely thinks master is more canon than main games
The way I see it, leaders like Archie and Maxie show the tragic villain, the flawed human who thought what they were doing was good but actually caused destruction. A leader like Cyrus shows a lack of regard for humanity. Cyrus is a true narcissist who thinks the only one that matters is himself and he will do anything to achieve his selfish desires, even if it means murdering humans and animals.
I dont think Pokemon does a really good job of making those villains. Theyre not really good examples of good intentions + bad execution. They just kinda have ham handed philosophies that are forced to fit with whatever mascot legendary they want to utilize, and these villains would make more sense if they established more overtly they were in actual cults. I dont think a human would ever come to the conclusions the gen 3, 4, 6, or 8 villains do.
@@rocketeer9183 The funny thing is that Lusamine did not have to seek an explanation for her, she was only very unstable due to the events prior to Sun and Moon
Wouldn’t call him a narcissist. He gave up his plan and chose to isolate himself within giratinas dimension, going as far as to ask his team not to search for him.
What always fascinated me about Cyrus was the impact he had on others in the story. From the way in which they spread little clues and tidbits around the region providing extra context to his actions and establishing him as a real person to those he interacted with all the way to how his commanders followed him until the end. Different media have portrayed him differently over the years, the anime made his arrogance more pronounced and turned that hypocrisy up to eleven. In that non-main series D/P/P Manga he was a lot more pivotal to the main characters development and in things like Generations it was... Mixed? While that episode of Generations was beautiful and they captured the idea of a completely emotionless Cyrus very well, I feel like they slightly misunderstood the character. Or simply decided to take him in a new direction. At the core of Cyrus is an immense arrogance, a belief that he, himself is the only one who can see in a blind world. While aspects like his possible relation to the Eterna Chateau and how he grew up spending more times with machines than living creatures, he came to a conclusion and stuck with it. Despite the fact that he weaponised the emotions he despised- despite the fact that he was aware that despising them at all was a contradiction- he used them to recruit his pawns. Presumably at least as the commanders were very, very loyal to him. The Pokemon Masters recent story arc was an interesting take, though like all stories told through Masters it was all very rushed and felt like an abrupt shift in character. And the Hallowed God Arceus special only doubled down on the admins borderline hysterical devotion to the man. It all paints a very interesting picture when you contrast it to the world that he was doing this all in, a simple thing I think a lot of people overlook is that the Pokemon settings aren't carbon copies of our earth. Yes, that's obvious but I don't think it really clicks in peoples minds how far these changes might extend. Their emotions come from a trio of Pokemon, their planet and universe was formed by a llama stuck in a fence and their society is built off of very passive and reactionary standards. Oh, sure, it's gameplay and tone restrictions but that doesn't mean it has no impact on the setting. I'd argue infact that ignoring that aspect of Pokemon, the idea that everything is solved through conflict involved of the titular creatures, is an inherent facet to any story involving them. Love, friendship and all those goodie-goodie things are given a shonen-like focus- the bonds between human and Pokemon. The bonds between human and human- and in other media the bonds between Pokemon and Pokemon. It's all very blatant and in your face. ...In spite of any, uh, implications such a world would reasonably present. And it's curious to see how even Cyrus is locked within that paradigm, I'm grasping at straws a bit there but for all his efforts to remove what he perceived as the one true weakness in his reality... He wasn't actually operating with the full picture.
Honestly I don't think Cyrus is as unaware of his flaws as he acts; he knows what he has, and how it acts in his interest, and he hates every second of it. He has to go by himself to his new world; to bring someone else in, who is incomplete, would force him to acknowledge that part of himself. That even if he buries everything deep, and creates a supposedly flawless world, he's still bringing everything he has with him.
I think Ghetsis is a good example of a pure evil character or a sociopath (maybe psychopath?) He is cruel, manipulative, scary, and will use and hurt/kill anyone to achieve his goals without an ounce of remorse.
Cyrus is a character a lot of people tend to get wrong, and the way RUclipsrs in gen 4 analysis and reviews characterize Cyrus usually feels off to me. However this is one of the better Cyrus videos, along side BJGvideos' "Why do I like Cyrus so much?" Granted that BJGvideo' is a much longer analysis, while Carthu's is good bite-sized content, serving two different purposes.
To be honest, I was like Cyrus....Not the destroy thus reality and replace it with a newer and less imperfect one. I did seek to cast aside emotions having been hurt and lied to over and over again. In fact, because of it, I still feel happier when I am alone. I see the logic to Cyrus' madness; however, instilling a desire to have others experience a tendency for emotionlessness is one of the unintentionally cruelest thing you can wish for.
Cyrus’s whole character is the fact he’s a very sad example of a hypocrite. He is an *incredibly* emotional man. But this fact about himself causes him distress. In Masters, Cynthia reminds him of his own humanity, and he is very visibly frightened by it. It’s honestly quite depressing. His very nature as a person disgusts and upsets him. He believes the reason for his suffering is the mere act of *wanting*
I liked your video analysis on Cyrus as a character! You are right on the fact that there's rarely videos talking on Cyrus's themes, theories and motivations, even though he is one of the most well executed villain characters in the main series Pokemon games. That is most unfortunate in my opinion. Since right now, GameFreak is focusing on Gen 4, and I am suddenly remembering a lot of theories and speculations on Cyrus as a character in the games that I hope might get clarified in the Gen 4 wave that GameFreak is doing currently. I don't know how long Gen 4 is going to be focused on, but I hope at least the Gen 4 wave ends with Cyrus's character getting a development or answer of some kind. Like the Rotom theory. Is Cyrus the one to discover Rotom? Another theory, did he succeed on his plans to create a new world from the Distortion Plane? So, many theories, that I hope GameFreak could answer some of these before they move on to a newer Gen or remakes. Although, despite all that rambling. I enjoyed the video! The editing was really good, and I enjoyed the discussion. Even if it isn't too long. Thanks for sharing.
I wanted the gen 4 remakes to specifically see a development of Cyrus's character but unfortunately, we only got the a D/P remake, the version where Cyrus is the least developed, even his granddad doesn't mention him
Ironically the protagonist is also a "perfect human" that Cyrus wants in a way. Because he does not have emotion, inteligent or determination,he is the player puppet.
Even then that not true. Without those three the protag will stand still... not doing anything at all. The players grant them these 3 to even progress in the story.
Okay let's all be honest, Giratina was absolutely terrifying. The whole time, it was about the 2 creation pokemon: Dialga and Palkia. Then we try to stop Cyrus from using them, but we're ultimately barely too late to stop him. Then all of a sudden, *the third Pokemon of creation appears.* Straight chills go down my spine. This is literally the Pokemon devil. Don't believe me? Giratina has 6 legs, 6 wings, and 6 c-shaped curves around its neck. 6-6-6, the mark of the beast. Pokemon Satan.
something i realize with finding Cyrus is that it's never really done the same way as other bosses. Other times, you find them where they're doing trouble. But cyrus just... appears where he wants. You find Giovanni in Celadon, where rocket took over. Archie/Maxie in Slateport in the Oceanic Museum where there was a long line of grunts to get in. Plasma in Accumula trying to get people to release their pokemon, but we encounter N and the Sages more often, and much more in B2W2. Flare near that seaside town making a ruckus in a cave. Guzma because you go to Po Town. Piers because Yell's blocking the road to the city, and marnie lets you in.

If you don't get what I mean, basically, in line with his whole "spirit must be removed" idea, he doesnt find it necessary to treat his pokemon horribly since in his eyes, it would be a waste, just like how treating his pokemon with friendship would also be a waste.
i know this video is a year old by now but! i’ve never seen anyone talk about the fact that cyrus basically set himself up for failure in platinum. he gives the player the master ball for seemingly no reason, allows them to release the lake guardians and also literally and intentionally lets the player run around and cause havoc in the galactic buildings. the way the lake guardians work, the three of them combined could quell dialga OR palkias power, and if you were to catch the other with the masterbl that HE gave them, his plans would be completly stopped. not to mention that he explicitly tells them not only where to find the guardians but also where his grand plan is going to unfold.
Well, emotions must be mastered in real life if we are to survive as a specie. Whether we do it through society, adapting to our own biology, cybernetics or guided evolution wouldn't matter. It must be done, because the more technology we gain the more dangerous to ourselves we become.
@@rustygx4867 That is what I'm essentially writing. Technology wielded by a madman does us no good. Technology wielded by someone who does not emotions overtake them would serve us far better. But humanity does like to gamble. Those in power will like continue to gamble until we lose.
I actually love Cyrus' character and his sense of Nihilism. I think he is actually the first philosophical Pokemon human character to appear in mainline games. I actually see him as a prototype to N's character in Gen 5. In DP's beta version, It is revealed that Cyrus has unused lines where he acts more friendly to the player than usual, and of course it was scrapped, I'm not surprised if developers wanted Cyrus to be originally to act like an anti-hero in the story rather than a wicked one but they kinda changed it and they move the anti-hero plot in Gen 5 in creation of N's character.
In all seriousness dude, in hopes of a Potential DLC for BDSP (I think it sorely needs one). I've been making my own variant of a Distortion Episode (Like the Delta Episode in ORAS) where the focuses are on Cyrus, the Distortion World itself, and Shadow Giratina (NOT Original Giratina, I do mean Shadow Giratina). But in order to truly execute this in a way that would be convincing to the character on particular interactions, I was ready to dive deap into research regarding Cyrus' philosophy, and I think this video simplifies and clears it up almost perfectly. In my story I plan to have Cyrus utilized Shadow Giratina and the Distortion World itself to bring about his "perfect world", but is ultimately foiled and everyone calls out the futility and even the horrid consequences of his plan. I enjoyed watching this video as the presentation was done really well, nice job man ^w^
I was glad i clicked on this video. Cyrus is by far my favorite character ever and at first glance, i expected the video to more or less be "hes so bad." He is, absolutely a hypocrite but i think thats the point. Especially seen in other media, like Pokespe where he gets a redemption of some sort and he realises that his own heart was weak and was basically blinded by his plans to reset the universe. I love Cyrus' character with my whole being.
I knew as soon as i clicked on the video and it opened with that Cyrus voice acted in front of Giratina's dark grimming mug this video would be fucking incredible
You are quickly becoming my favorite Pokemon RUclipsr, and I'm thrilled to learn you have another channel! Keep up the great work! :) Also, I like your hat - it's very Jojo
The truly ironic thing is that Cyrus needs the Red Chain, crafted from the lake trio, in order to control Dialga and/or Palkia at their full power. To put it another way... the power of the human spirit, the thing Cyrus believes to be so flawed and worthless, the very thing he seeks to destroy, is the only thing that can allow him to fully harness the power of time and space and bring his plans to fruition.
"You mean the guy who decided to kill everyone but his own team because he hated how fighting over greed damaged the world but is himself a rich bastard and the qualifications for getting in are just a fine?" "No, the other hypocritical villain." "Ah, Cyrus."

The new world he made was Legends technically. You can get the modern galactic outfit and Cyrus’ haircut which I find pretty odd. Though as you go through the game per Arceus request to seek out all Pokémon, learn about the ppl of Hisui, and eventually face off against the Lake Spirits, you learn more about them therefore expanding your knowledge on them, completing your human spirit.
Also if you notice all his pokemon are fully evolved at the end of the game so Cyrus obviously cares about his "Pokemon". Hes a hypocrite plain and simple.

Wait a second I just realized something: it's stated that Mesprit gave humans emotion and Azelf gave them courage. So, does that mean if you were to deliberately kill just these two, that emotion and courage would disappear? Or would they have to not have been on this world in the first place?
have you read the book of the curses of the three pokemon? (uxie) "look not into the pokemon's eyes. In but an instant, you'll have no recollection of who you are. Return home, but how? When there is nothing left to remember?" (mesprit) "Dare not touch the Pokemon's body. In but three short days, all emotions will drain away." (azelf) "Above all, Above all, do not harm the Pokemon. In a scant five days, the offender will grow immobile in entirety."
@@dawnseeker176 oh no I didn't. Then he could only use mesprit for his plan, but not everyone would look and it would be a mess. Thanks for clearing things up
you are slightly wrong about the nature of the distortion world. Cyrus actually speculates that, should the normal world be destroyed, the distortion world could somehow be used to recreate it. he sees it and Giratina as additional obstacles between him and his goal, which is why he wants to destroy them.

Well, emotions must be mastered in real life if we are to survive as a specie. Whether we do it through society, adapting to our own biology, cybernetics or guided evolution wouldn't matter. It must be done, because the more technology we gain the more dangerous to ourselves we become.
Technology is rather a double edge sword than purely dangerous.
@@rustygx4867 That is what I'm essentially writing. Technology wielded by a madman does us no good. Technology wielded by someone who does not emotions overtake them would serve us far better.
But humanity does like to gamble. Those in power will like continue to gamble until we lose.
dude wants to get rid of spirit despite having one.
I love Pokémon but I forgot Carthu made Pokémon videos and I’m happy I remembered
Maybe Pokemon Legends Arceus will give us some story about ancestor of Cyrus
I hope not. I think Cyrus works fine in isolation. He doesn’t need some emotionless ancestor or something to ruin it
@@Carthu based
We got cyllene, and tbh I couldn’t be happier. We did also get volo, but you can find out about him on your own.
@@bolt_beam yeah I thought kamado would be the main villain not my bff volo
For a second there I thought you were talking about the RUclips
Why would I be talking about RUclips???
@@Carthu I meant to say a RUclipsr
I choose to believe the both sinnoh mangas represent Cyrus the best. From the emotions, thinking, body language pokemon, and battle style.
I really want me to read this story you speak of.
@@analyticofexistance7847 Its a rather long one, and currently still a W.I.P, trying to get all the kinks worked out so its a good story
@@CGPTrainer Well I look forward to it's completion. My hopes as to you as a fellow writer are with you.
@@analyticofexistance7847 Thanks a lot ^w^ (If only I could present my ideas to ILCA T^T)
dude i had such a crush on cyrus when i was a child. i enjoyed fighting against him way too much lol.
uhhh...

I still do
@@Flizz0 you have no idea how much I wanna joke that you're still a child (GET STALKED BACK)
Well made and well structured video, happy to see more on this second channel!
Your pfp makes me so happy, it's my favorite meme + my favorite character

great video! I really like the analysis here, and the editing is fantastic!
Glad you enjoyed it!
To this day Carthu wanders the distortion world trying to find his way back home.
soon I will return
didn’t realise this had been uploaded. this is great keep uploading these! 👍🏻
Cyrus was the first villain I ever saw in Pokemon (via the manga, so he was a bit different), and he left a colossal impression on me
Love your coverage of Cyrus! Great job Carthu!
Glad you enjoyed it!
SINNOH HYPEE can't wait for Friday
Thank you for this video. Platinum's Storyline is so underrated.
Also, I like your hat - it's very Jojo
I've been hearing and saying the word "hypocrisy" alot lately. So seeing this made me click on it mainly lol.
Hey I’ll take it lol
13:38 he acknowledges that his spirit is also incomplete
The truly ironic thing is that Cyrus needs the Red Chain, crafted from the lake trio, in order to control Dialga and/or Palkia at their full power.
To put it another way... the power of the human spirit, the thing Cyrus believes to be so flawed and worthless, the very thing he seeks to destroy, is the only thing that can allow him to fully harness the power of time and space and bring his plans to fruition.
After pokemon legends arceus, in D/P/P Dialga and Palkia were probably like "Oh boy, here we go again, another human using us for world domination."
"You mean the guy who decided to kill everyone but his own team because he hated how fighting over greed damaged the world but is himself a rich bastard and the qualifications for getting in are just a fine?"
"No, the other hypocritical villain."
"Ah, Cyrus."
Pokémon Diamond & Pearl, the Equilibrium Middle School AU
another reason i think cyrus might want a new world is probably to get eyebrows
Oh, he knows full well he's just as flawed as everyone else. And he despises every second of this.
This video popped up in my recommended, and I really liked it, then your other video popped up in my recommended and I liked that one too, so I went to check out your channel and realized that those were your only two videos.
So I subscribed because I like 100% of your content so far
Cyrus Pokemon team and their held items should have been in the remakes, some Pokémon and held items are version exclusive:
1. Leftovers Dusknoir/eviite Duskclops his first lead like Spirittomb.
2. Wise glasses Magnetzone Diamond/Magnet Luxray Pearl.
3. Black Sludge Crobat Diamond/Wacan Berry Gyarados Pearl.
4. Black Glasses Houndoom Diamond/Life Orb Drapion Pearl.
5. Light Clay Bronzong with Levitate ability.
6. Yache Berry Garchomp Diamond/Expert Belt Garchomp Pearl. Cyrus is the leader of team Galactic he should have the best.
Your alive! Its good to see
fun fact the pokemon anime cyrus sounds exactly like goku black from dbs
In Max and Friends Cyrus is back How's impossible also, Mario is showing him away with a new body for him replacing his sister Emmy into May because March 10th is the answer of a key. Mario saying about the Pokémon came from Nintendo and Max hated name is called Mario Maxito called into a Mario why he hates the name they are connected to Max and Friends Max Emmy Enrique Finn Sam and Mekhi
Damn thought carthu got into some YT beef
idk anyone named Cyrus lol
I'd love to remind everyone this is a POKEMON villain.
great vid loved it!!
12:21 Thanks for saving me from that jumpscare.
Also if you notice all his pokemon are fully evolved at the end of the game so Cyrus obviously cares about his "Pokemon". Hes a hypocrite plain and simple.
Cyrus looks like 2000 Mike shinoda
0/10 needed more Join Avenue music
His actions and goals reminds me of madara uchiha from the shippuden anime
Yes I'm loving the Pokemon vids
Ugh, I have a hypocrite at work. Does anyone know any unfiltered people who don't take their own advice to improve *_themselves?_*
Holy shit you started making Pokémon content instead of just Dragon Ball? Mad man!
Then he shows up again in ultra sun & ultra moon
This video is amazing 👏
Thank you!
Ghetsis should be the emotionless one cause his pokemon know frustration
I think emotionless is not the right term for Ghetsis. He has emotions of hatred towards his pokemon rather than apathy.
Yaay more Pokémon Content
Brodie you are very funny, you earned a subscriber
Never liked Cyrus' "eMoTioNs aRe bAd" arguments
More or less he was right.
I love how you kept character and not at the same time lol
I really like Cyrus dub voice!

Let's see every emo character ever every person whose played Anakin and Vader and M. Night Shyamalan in almost every film hes made and LeBron James in space jam and that's the tip of the ice burge
0:25 Disney would like to have a word with you
3:29 Thanos would like to have a word with you
Pucci.
Bro he looks so coooooooooooooooooooool
Wait a second I just realized something: it's stated that Mesprit gave humans emotion and Azelf gave them courage. So, does that mean if you were to deliberately kill just these two, that emotion and courage would disappear? Or would they have to not have been on this world in the first place?
have you read the book of the curses of the three pokemon?
(uxie)
"look not into the pokemon's eyes.
In but an instant, you'll have no recollection of who you are.
Return home, but how? When there is nothing left to remember?"
(mesprit)
"Dare not touch the Pokemon's body.
In but three short days, all emotions will drain away."
(azelf)
"Above all, Above all, do not harm the Pokemon.
Bruh, please keep making vids!
Idk if you will respond or not but why don’t you stream on twitch more??.
I’ve moved streams over to RUclips so they’re more convenient for most viewers. The channel is called “Carthu TV” streams start there soon!
