I don't know why we always have this idea of taking breaks, life really doesn't stop happening, taking breaks often just means you are doing something else. If you don't keep up to date with your current skillset, you start to lose it, this is especially true in the IT industry. Life doesn't really have breaks where there are periods you can hibernate in a cave somewhere on the side of a mountain for a year or years, doesn't really happen.
Actually, breaks are part of life. Look around you: plants and animals hibernate/go dormant for some seasons. We have different seasons for this reason as well. Be for real.

There is such thing as a middle road. You are absolutely correct this is a horrible job market. Its going to take you more than 6 months.
@cre8tion26 but she didn't do a few years, did she? Most people like her take 1 to 6 months. That's within FMLA. She quit 1 year ago but she was silently looking for another job within months. Not everyone can really take years off.
@cre8tion26 I would ask myself what my goals are. If it is just burnout, you might not need that long. Just take all of your PTO, that might be enough. If you need more, go on FMLA. If you need years, have a sit down with your manager and HR about taking a hiatus and try to secure a return. Don't burn your career. Its one of my personal biggest regrets. Slow down, ask yourself what's going on. And take it easy.
