- In this video I walk you through, step by step, How To Use iMovie on iPhone (2022). I'll help you understand the tools you need to know on how to edit videos with iMovie without having to spend a penny on video editing software.
iMovie is a free editing app that comes with every Mac laptop and desktop. iMovie has a lot of editing features from beginner to advance and it's a perfect tool if you already have a Mac. This is a 2022 Beginner's Guide to iMovie. If you already know a bit about iMovie already, this probably won't be for you since it covers the basics.
Feel free to speed up or rewatch any section if it is easy or hard for you. This is meant to be a quick and easy guide for iMovie to get you started with the basic tools and editing workflow in Apple iMovie.

Great video, it helped me with my 1st video. I would love to see how you have the sound of the video, but the image of something else, so you can see what I am speaking about, rather than the image added in afterwards.
What you are describing sounds like "b-roll". Simply upload the photo from your "photos" app to iMovie. use the "arrows" setting and you can adjust the image however you need to on the screen as a second layer on top of your video

70 yr old making educational videos on iPhone with I movie. Ken burns effect is sometimes good. Can’t find where to turn it off for certain clips.
Don’t learn very easily from videos, but you are helpful.
Do I have to buy a new computer? Mine won’t even do I Movie.
It's definitely harder on older computers. you can shut it off in the settings by tapping on it

This is harder to do but find the "Detach Audio" setting and you can bring that out into your view. Keep in mind though, you will be separating it from the video clip so make sure you don't move it a lot. It'll make you pull your hair out on iphone because it can be touchy

How do you trim your music with iMovie?
Trimming music works the same as trimming your video clips. Add it into the timeline and from there you can tap and hold the ends and drag it to the desired spot. OR find the "scissors" tool and cut it at the section you need it cut at
The text editing options that you claim will appear after a double click on the text, or the ones that appear on the bottom bar, simply do not appear for me at all. From what I can tell, iMovie blows.

I figured out how to add background music to my iPhone video using iMovie but then when I download it back to my photo album the video size is much smaller than the original video without the music. How do I maintain the video size after adding the music and downloading it to save?

You can do it with multiple text layers in iMovie or a design app. Yessir!
For some reason, I am not able to click on a transition to change it. Yet, If I click on a clip, and hit the Edit button, 3 little boxes show up, but they are greyed out. Would like to change a star transition but there aren't any options. What do you suggest?

Does it always have to be photos? Can’t it be a pdf as well? If so, how???!
I’m assuming you mean as the 2nd layer on top of the main video portion?? If so, technically yes I believe you can upload pdf’s but it’s going to be a headache of a process. To be completely honest I wouldnt try that with a phone. My recommendation would be to take a screenshot of the pdf you are trying to use and crop out what you don’t want on it. From there, upload the pdf screenshot as a photo to your project
It sucks bc after I save it to take a break and go back on the Home Screen it won’t let me tap it to edit it
I haven’t heard of that yet…the normal thought process that I would have is the phone is having trouble loading your project due to having a lot of memory, you have a lot of apps open and need to close them, etc… If all else fails, save what you have into your photos app, turn your phone battery off and back on and see if that may help. If that doesn’t work, delete the app and reinstall it
How about a title in the beginning of the video?
Two options, Download a graphic you make for free on canva or use the "Text" option in imovie

Yes! Just need to save it to the camera roll just like the videos

I have a big problem with a 5 mn cut all done on iMovie on iPhone 11 pro, and there is no way for me to export it anywhere, not even in my photos of my iPhone. When I push « transfert » button : « Some of your videos are beeing charged from the cloud… and I wait, and I can see properly my video on iMovie… but blocked ! No way to take it out from iMovie… Could you help please ? I will pay… Please, I am 65, and working on a platform 2.0 that could change my life. A bit desperate. Tell me please. Take care. Hi! It sounds like you somehow delete video clip(s) in the "photos" app before finishing your video edit. Make sure all of your clips you are using to make the video stay in your photos app while you work on your video all the way until when you're done

Export one movie as a video after finishing basic edits and import that as a video clip into the other project

My pictures and videos don’t always fit on the screen. I constantly have to pan from top to bottom to get the full picture. Can you show us how to change that so I don’t need to do that?
Click on the photo so it highlights yellow. On the right side next to the “help” question mark, below that there’s a 4 direction arrows symbol. Tap that, it should say “drag to position, pinch to resize” use one finger to drag that around the screen, use two fingers to make your photo smaller or bigger

When I go to upload it to youtube, that one is not available on my iphone - I see airdrop, facebook, instagram, Outlook, whatsapp, messages but no RUclips. Do you know how I can get that to be an option?
try exporting to your camera roll then going to RUclips find the video and upload i don't think RUclips is an option that's the way i do it!
