On a pleasantly summer-esque October morning in Scarborough, I explored the site of what was once an integral part of a family visit to this legendary British seaside resort.
The popular outdoor pool using natural seawater attracted scores of thousands each year especially throughout the middle of the 20th century. Eventual decline saw the pool close at the end of the 1989 season, although it remained intact in a decaying state until 2000 before it was demolished.
Despite little trace of it remaining other than two portions of retaining wall against a cliff which was once or riddled with chalets toilets and cafes, a set of concrete chalets remain adjacent.
Unfortunately as I was filming the exploration live for the last half of the video I was unaware that someone had been camping out ( obviously not legally ) in one of them until I came by a board had been removed.
Due to unavailability of copyrighted archive material at short notice I have created basic image of the old pool from a similar angle using Windows Paint.
Filmed and written by Dave Attrill.
