Very pleased that you spoke about the importance of carrying cutters. Several times I've cut lures out of a pike's mouth, when they've engulfed the lure and trebles are amongst their delicate gill rakers. Far better to carry a few spare trebles and cut the hook out, than trying to rip out often quite large trebles. I personally unhook the majority of my lure-caught pike in the water, but I appreciate that this takes confidence and experience; I don't bring a pike onto the bank unless I need to.
