Or alternately, go to a larger store. I've heard of mixed reviews from people buying from small shops. You would think it would be the opposite, considering how important the sale is to them.
But,when I took my Grandson and I went to purchase his Christmas present from me they made me run the background check on me knowing it was for him because it was me purchasing the gun.
Flagging other customers… find a place out of the way to inspect, handle, check for clear chamber, treat it as it’s loaded, ask where a safe direction to point is, keep your finger off the trigger and follow all safety rules just like you’re at a public range with a loaded firearm. When you bring a firearm in to a store for gunsmithing, resale, help etc bring it in a case and without ammunition. Don’t just whip it out of your pocket or out of your holster because you want to limit the risk of appearing like it’s a stick up. I personally bring mine in inside a case and I put the case on the counter closed. I ask the employee to open the case himself and remove the firearm himself so there’s no chance of fumbling with an unknown status. Complacency is the foundation of tragedy.
My local gun range/shop lost their FFL because of a straw purchase. A couple came in one day and tried to purchase a pistol. The woman was a denied the purchase. The next day, a different employee sold the pistol to the man. It was an accident. Now the gun shop is screwed. Such a bummer.
How exactly would that happen? If the man passed the check on the second day, he would be legally able to own the gun. Or is there some provision about not being able to own a firearm if the household is shared with a felon (or other prohibited party)? And if so, how would the second employee know that? More importantly, how did the "system" identify this and the straw purchase? And yes, I know, the ATF has a hard-on to shut down any FFL they can. Just curious as to how it was discovered? Or maybe the shop itself realized the error?
@@fleatactical7390if you live with a felon, you can have firearms as long as they aren’t, redilly availability, to the felon. Also, this sounds like one of those fish stories.
If you carry a loaded gun into a gun store, it stays in your holster. Period. If you want to bring a gun into a store to sell it, have it repaired, or show it to an employee for any reason, bring it into the store unloaded and in a case. A gun store is not a place where you should be unholstering a gun or handling a loaded gun, ever. If you want to dry fire any gun, ask first. If you want to examine the inside of a gun, ask if you can take the gun down, or let the employee take it down for you.
In Utah, it is legal to "gift" a firearm to another person that is not restricted. It is illegal to buy a firearm for another person. The difference is who actually paid for the firearm.
Exactly you cant act as somone elses agent bu5 if yiu see somthing they will like a geuine gift is legal under federal law and most states law but goota know your state laws in ky the state could care less as long as all parties can leggaly own a gun under federal law
You are buying it personally, after you buy and own it, You can then gift it. However you need to not say this. The gun is for you… until you give it away…
I'm not certain if this is wrong to expect but...whenever I have purchased a handgun from a store I ask to see the gun, I hold it, dry fire if alowed etc. When I have decided to buy that model, I ask if there is one 'in the box, unopened' and may I purchase that one. My resoning is that the guns in the case have been handled a lot by a lot of different people. Mags removed, inserted, dry fired etc. Like I do when shopping. Question: Is it wrong to ask for a new, in the box firearm instead of the one thats displayed in the case?
Why do you not have snap caps to put in your 22 cal. guns to protect them from being dry fired. If you know enough to tell people not to dry fire the gun, you should know enough to protect them from your unknowing customer's. At least put safety tag in the breach or a Zip Tie through the barrel. The customer will see you doing this and will ask you why and that gives you the opportunity to explain some of the operation of guns and hazards of dry firring.
I bought a Tikka rifle on Black Friday at BassPro in St Charles. It was a great deal. The counter people were great. It took almost three hours to complete , about 6:05 90 minutes on the background check. Not BassPros fault but it was painful.
If you sell used guns then "all gun sales are final" should not be a thing. You can always buy the gun back minus a "restocking fee" and then sell it to someone else. I was in a local shop the other day and they had a brand new SIG 229 that the customer cancelled the purchase on after they processed it. They were selling it along side their other products. You could have also but a larger sign on clearly indicating that the gun was a "parts gun" or have a section specific for parts gun and wall hangers.
Supposedly one of the national chains keeps a trigger lock on all their firearms because somebody used a display pistol to commit suicide in one of their stores. Regardless of their reasoning, I won’t shop a firearm from them because I believe trigger pull to be one of the factors to be evaluated when purchasing any firearm.
You can do that here in Communist Illinois too, after you go through about 500 yards of red tape, thanks to our dictator, anti-gun Governor Prickzer, in which a federal judge in E. St. Louis just shot down Prickzer's ban on assault type weapons......gun owners....1 Prickzer...0 .
As a firearms dealer I still get delayed every so often and it is just something that happens. I work gun shows and everyone wants to get their gun right then but if you are delayed I will ship it or if you are local you can pick it up. It's really not a big deal to wait.
First time i saw the straw purchase question i had no idea what it was. The clerck asked if i was having a problem i said yes what is a straw purchase. He said i m guess its not what your doing. Told him no. Only person that may get gun from me was my son. Told him he was 10 so it would be a while.
i have to wait the 3 days minimum for my purchases..dont matter if its from walmart a local gun store or pawnshop.. problem with having a very common name..
Background checks are also illegal in violation of Title 5 U.S.C. section §7311 Ex. Order. No. 10450 subsection (5). A gun store, business is a organization, association.
Here's my question. Is there any way to get a manufacturer to send a gun to a range (that sells firearms) to try out before buying either that one or a non-demo unit? Not new new to guns, but as a mechanic whos driven thousands of cas for pre-purchase inspections, this "buy it before you try it" dynamic in the gun world has always annoyed me. Even paying shipping to try one would be worth it when the gun is $500-2000, because as you said... all purchases are final.
My range rents a variety of firearms , You have to buy their ammo and give them your drivers license until you turn in the gun, but most people are ok with that.
Maggie the FFLS around me here in central Oklahoma will not help with the questions on the 4473, they claim they are forbidden by ATF rules and regulations.
Pro tip the first answer is always yes and all others are no. I’ve always been told that before and before they get done telling me I’m already done with the 4473.
@Russ1tonram That's what I figured you meant. I was just stating that, as far as I know, the ATF rules & regs dictate that the FFL cannot give the answers, but I'm not aware of anything that states they cannot clarify/explain the question being asked on the form. I certainly could be wrong.
The first time I filled out that form, I miss read a question and put the wrong answer. The employee looked over my paper and told me to reread the question. He didn't tell me how to answer it, but he let me know I made a mistake before he processed it ...
The only issue I ever had when purchasing a firearm was when I purchased a brand new Armscor 1911 and the sear spring snapped after two magazines were fired. When something like that happens, the manufacturers tend to have you send the firearm into them and they'll fix said issue. Otherwise, I've only had a couple of break-in period hiccups.
Have an older family friend who cant read. Walmart counter people wouldnt help him with the 4473 and when i offered to help him, they said it had to be in my name. One more reason to avoid Walmart. I wonder if other places do this.
I think you might find that other places would also do this. You're treading into an area of liability on the store's part. Plus, the gun store is one of the few places where they can actually refuse to sell if they want to and for no reason whatsoever. That being said, it shouldn't happen at all (I assume your friend is illiterate, versus dealing with a mental disability). Your friend is being denied a right. I also think Walmart no longer sells guns as of a couple years ago (they caved to anti-gun propaganda).
Supremacy clause establishes that the constitution of the united states of America is the supreme law of the land it overrides and overrules all other laws. Article 4 section 2 paragraph 1 text The citizens of each state shall be entitled to all privileges and immunities of citizens in the several states. Second amendment shall not be Infringed clause. 14th amendment section 1 No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the united states Makes all background checks, licenses/permits in the united states unconstitutional therefore illegal. 9th amendment enumeration clause makes it illegal to use the commerce clause to violate and deprive the right to buy a Gun through tax stamps/taxation.
So what's the solution if there were no background checks and felons walk into gun stores to get guns? After a felon takes a life or commits a crime with the firearm, would you want the gun store to be liable for the sale?
@VegasAlien1 second amendment exists to protect against criminals. American citizens labeled felons have the same constitutionally protected rights to keep and bear arms as any other American citizen, government has no legal lawful constitutional authority or jurisdiction to prohibit or deprive any American citizen from exercising their constitutionally protected second amendment rights no matter what they label them under the supremacy clause, article 4 section 2 paragraph 1, second amendment,14th amendment section 1.
Worked the counter in a gun store for 8 years. I would add the following: 1. Don't come in drunk. 2. Don't reek of weed. 3. Please do not dismantle the guns to show off for your friends. 4. Speaking of friends, it doesn't take 8 people to buy a gun. 5. Don't park 4 blocks away and bring in a gun to sell to us. We know it's stolen. 6. Do not pull out a carry gun without asking. 7. Don't ask us why you got denied... we don't know. All of these happened on a regular basis.
Case in point: I attempted to purchase a shotgun in Kentucky. During the transaction, I presented my South Carolina CWP,and was promptly told that they did not sell to Illinois residents, nor anyone from a state that did not touch Kentucky. Store owner policy.
Might have been able to circumvent that, if you wanted to, to have them ship the firearm to a local FFL of yours, and complete the transaction once you got back home.
Then sue the owner of the business in a federal court for felony conspiracy against rights in violation of Title 18 U.S.C. section §241, felony deprivation of rights under color of law in violation of Title 18 U.S.C. section §242 felony deprivation of rights under color of law for violating and depriving you of your constitutionally protected supremacy clause, article 4 section 2 paragraph 1, second amendment shall not be Infringed clause,14th amendment section 1 no state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the united states clause rights combined.

We just had a new chain store open here. The guys working the gun counter took about 3 minutes to show me how much they didn't know about the guns they were selling. I also found out they moved some of these guys from the Los Angeles (anti 2a area) the North State (Pro 2a) so their ideas of what is right and wrong differ from the reality of this area. One of them started spouting about how you cannot have a 22lr pistol on a CCW. Yet I pulled my CCW out and showed him he was wrong. They lost a prospective customer that day.
I dry fire rim fires all the time have been for 60 years never had an issue This is such a myth I wouldn't do it over and over but to make sure it's not cocked when unloaded no problem
one straw purchase that I never see talked about is the guy "helping" his girlfriend pick out a firearm for "herself". this was almost an every day thing when I worked at a gun store. you know in your heart it is a straw purchase, but you also know unless they are completely stupid about it you really can't challenge it without offending the customer and possibly create a scene in front of other customers. I guessing many will say oh I wouldn't sell to them, but really if the girl fills out the form and passes the back round check are you going to say, oh to bad we won't sell this to you because we think you are lying. if so let me know if you won the law suit they filed against you.
You have to explain to them what a straw purchase is, and explain that it is illegal. Explain what is legal. Let them go home and think about it. We do this all the time.
Break in period for a fire arm is a term that shows low quality of said firearm. With the prices of them these days everyone of them should work right every time.
Assume you’re are dealing with a newbie. If I say, “Can I dry fire this”, then we both know we’re talking about pulling the trigger on a firearm without a snap cap in it. But when you say, “Do not dry fire this firearm”, they may not understand what that means. Just say, “Do not pull the trigger”.
I have only walked out WITH a new firearm, ONCE. Every other time, it has taken days before my form cleared. I don't know what the issue is, but it IS irritating.
All purchases are finalized at point of sale for good reason but lets not forget most of the time as a customer you have a warranty from the company brand you bought and your attitude will reflect how much the store you bought from is gonna help you with that warranty. Be a butt and you will be shipping it on your own and have to find another ffl to get it shipped to.
The older you are the quicker your background check comes back! This is due to that your number is going to come up because so many of the numbers are marked closed, I was at a Basspro in Ga filled out the paperwork and the clerk said most background checks were taking an hour and they would call me stepped away and he called me back and said it was back and he did not believe it was so fast! And another said he had been waiting almost an hour yet to be called! I told them it always happens to me and an I told them my niece who works a government it job and told my the number of SS # is higher up on the list due to my age, I am 70 years old so age does have it’s gun buying advantages!
Someone driving a Yugoslavian vehicle stopped at the NASA gate and the driver asked with a heavy accent through a rough beard, "EXCuse PLEAce WHERE FOR do you keep the plutonium?" Without missing a beat the guard said, 'badge!'.
If it takes a case of ammo to break in a firearm it has something wrong with it and needs to be returned to the manufacturer for repair. Malfunctions after 200 rounds are not going away.
I was in Ohio a few years ago. Growing up my dad had a grand and so everything was called the clip. I didn’t know the difference between magazine and clip. I went in to a gun store to buy one and the guy got all over me and made me feel stupid because I didn’t know the difference between clip and magazine. Why aren’t we fighting with our own kind?

So sold it foe a USA free RUGER SR 40 with 15 rounds magazines! Upgraded it with ghost rocket 3.5 lbs. transfer bar and talon grips with rubber grips to fit my medium hand but long fingers. Here in Pennsylvania, there is no background check on the private sale of a long arm unless you buy it from an FFL. But all hand gun purchases have to go through an FLL

When I was with my ex wife, she was convinced she HAD to have a glock, I talked her into going to a store that also had a range, where you could rent a gun and shoot before you bought it, so she tried a glock...and bought a ruger.
Or somebody is changing the reason for losing their FFL, because they don't want to tell the truth to their customers.
@fleatactical7390 I agree, this sounds suspicious.
@@fleatactical7390if you live with a felon, you can have firearms as long as they aren’t, redilly availability, to the felon. Also, this sounds like one of those fish stories.
@@hime273 Good point as well.

Dry fire. Also say "Don't pull the trigger on a rim fire "
Question: Is it wrong to ask for a new, in the box firearm instead of the one thats displayed in the case?
not that i see but you run the risk of quality control variations and you might not get the gun you wanted....
Exactly , the more questions you ask the whole transaction goes nice an smooth
Regardless of their reasoning, I won’t shop a firearm from them because I believe trigger pull to be one of the factors to be evaluated when purchasing any firearm.
in texas you can buy it and sell it to another person!
Thanks yall
Communication is key is so many aspects of life for sure
Straw purchases are not just an "issue" or a "can of worms " as she says. They are a federal felony.
I have been a firearms dealer for many years and it still shocks me what people will say when wanting to purchase a firearm.
Do not ignite flatulence.
As a firearms dealer I still get delayed every so often and it is just something that happens. I work gun shows and everyone wants to get their gun right then but if you are delayed I will ship it or if you are local you can pick it up. It's really not a big deal to wait.
The "His & Hers" made me laugh. My husband & I basically have full "his & hers" collections... Lol
That makes it much simpler in case of divorce.🤔
This is the only right answer 💯WTF about “shall not be infringed” don’t they get?
Maybe but do you want just anyone buying a firearm without a background check.
Shall not be infringed @@keithgregory7937
So you're OK if felons walk in and buy guns?
No, break in periods for revolvers, pump, actions, bolt actions and break actions, lol!
I get Delayed like 80% of the time.... I've learned to just expect that it's going to be a 2-3 day wait and if not it's a bonus.
They can't tell you the answer, but they should be able to explain the question. Some of them are worded in a way that can be confusing.
@HALO-2304 im talking about explaining not answering the questions.
The juxtaposition with Maggie and that clock is quite a picture.
Unfortunately most people don't know what Snap Caps are or why you shouldn't dry fire rimfire firearms.
Yes, walmart still sells guns just a limited number of models
I'm blessed I got a sicilain last time and live in tulsa oklahoma so I never wait more then 3min.
Supremacy clause establishes that the constitution of the united states of America is the supreme law of the land it overrides and overrules all other laws.
Article 4 section 2 paragraph 1 text
The citizens of each state shall be entitled to all privileges and immunities of citizens in the several states.
Second amendment shall not be Infringed clause.
14th amendment section 1
No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the united states
Makes all background checks, licenses/permits in the united states unconstitutional therefore illegal.
I would add the following:
Most of the gun shops around me have signs on the front door about being denied service if they smell alcohol or weed on you ...
Some gunshops wont help you fill out or answer the questions on the forms they say they cant help or answer anything. You are on your own
Case in point: I attempted to purchase a shotgun in Kentucky.
@ElementofKindness I did ask he to do that, and he said no.
Surprising for a shotgun. I hope it wasn't kygunco!
@dragonf1092 Riigghhttt. Because that's worth the trouble, for something he could pick up elsewhere.
(BTW, can't sue a private business for depriving your 2nd amendment. The law applies to the restrictions to federal government)
My 940 pro has taken quite a bit to break in, still is as near as I can tell. When I first got it I was not a happy camper. Break in is real!
do not dryfire is cut and dry, if you have to explain it further maybe person is not ready to own said firearm.
Any good gun shop would red flag in some way to let everyone know that this is a parts gun, Maggie you have no excuse not to make it known.
Here in Cali FFLs have to run a background check for the purchase of ammo, so be patient, especially at this time of year.
I hate the word Cali, it make’s California seem special and it’s not at all.

there are plenty of sleazy gun stores. Pawnshops are the worst. if its a parts gun you should require they sign off on it being a "parts gun"
I remember the "good ole days" when Maggie would close out by saying "Good-bye internet!".🥰
Maggie is a treasure and a joy. I wish she worked at a gun shop near me. I'd be spending WAY too much money there!
Yes, there was a cabelas in delaware near me that a lot of ammo was stolen, but it was not the customer's it was an employee.
Great video
And now, I don’t buy ammo at Bass Pro or Cabela’s any more. That business went elsewhere.
What was the reason
It's not bad for me because if they don't like it I just keep it
Ive found that at some stores inget instantly approved and others i get a 30 min delay. But its constantly the same at each place.
Having a ticket is the stupidity of all things in life to be held back in a background check
I told them it always happens to me and an I told them my niece who works a government it job and told my the number of SS # is higher up on the list due to my age, I am 70 years old so age does have it’s gun buying advantages!
explains why mine goes through so fast as well.... got my SS very early and grandpa worked for them....
Weird I'm only 40 and have bought many guns from 21 on. I've never had to wait more than 5min

Smith, Johnson, Miller,Williams, guaranteed 2 weeks' response,
I was in Ohio a few years ago.
My first hand gun was 1978 and it was a 9mm Smith and Wesson model 59 My second one was a Ruger model 944 but darn thing was a Democratic controlled one. So sold it foe a USA free RUGER SR 40 with 15 rounds magazines! Upgraded it with ghost rocket 3.5 lbs. transfer bar and talon grips with rubber grips to fit my medium hand but long fingers. And all plastic parts replaced with stainless steel parts and a recoil assembly 22 lbs. to tame recoil! And finally heavy duty striker spring for a weapon fit my taste perfectly! Bought some stuff in a brick and mortar store, but most from online Galloway and Ruger plus midway gun with my Impact guns for getting my guns and magazines but first gun was bought at Montgomery Ward 1978!
Once it is out the door the gun store has no way of knowing what ammunition has been feed through it. . . Ect. Good advice as always

Nice to live in a state where there's no background checks on private purchases.

Turns out she didn't like the glock at all, it was just name recognition, like her mercedes and Harley, that was 15 years ago, she still doesn't own a glock, and she ditched her car and her bike.
