There seems to be a growing mountain of Miller 255 wire/ burn-back comments and issues growing on RUclips for this welder! Most often when using Pulse mode.
It seems like Miller is blaming everyone for the problems. I already received a price quote for this machine and the cart from my local welding store, so instead of placing my order this week, it looks as though I need to go back to researching another welder manufacturer. I was really hoping to buy a Miller with Pulse instead of Lincoln again!
Several people noted this feed issue appears either after 90% or more of the wire roll was used or after several minutes of welding, as if the gun tip starts restricting or the wire liner starts restricting/binding. The feed angle of the wire to the feed rollers does not seem to be a straight shot when the wire roll after the roll starts getting used. It looks like the rollers expect more of a downward feed, which requires the roll to be mounted higher or the rollers be lowered or less of a feed angle. I wonder if it’s related to the new MX gun they are using?
Miller, when is this going to addressed? We want to buy and enjoy this welder!!!

@@MillerWelders can a 10’ gun/cable be used, it may limit or eliminate wire feed and wire burn-back issues people see?

I may have already mentioned that a another guy’s video, he said he fixed his 255 wire burn-back issue with MIG Pulse mode by increasing his run-in setting, I think to 65…something for people to try if needed. So for now, I should retract my earlier accusation that blamed the Miller 255, it may not be any issue at all. It most likely is related to a person’s welding style and making the correct setting adjustments related to that style. That’s for your patience, I now plan to buy the 255. 👍
Cannot get the off and on stop to work remote
We were looking at purchasing 2 of these for our fab shop until we realized they didn’t have ac for tig welding aluminum where as the 220 does and the 220 can’t fit a full size spool of wire🤦🏻♂️ so I guess we’re going with a different brand...a huge swing and a miss by miller🙄
Any specs on the max size tank to use on the EZ latch running gear cart?

Hey all, I'm having a lot of trouble welding 1/16-1/8" wall steel tube with the pulse mig feature on this machine. Should I refrain from running pulse for thinwall steel? Working with a lot of 3/4 and 1.5" square tube. Ornamental steel.

your not the only one. Think my machine was a lemon out of the box. I've used another pulse machine and had flawless results. Mine has never worked right on pulse mig for mild steel with 90/10 gas. Now today my machine will only work in autoset mode. Manual mode it wont work... This is my second Miller machine to have issues out of in the last 10 yrs out of the 3 new machines that I've bought brand new. I just contacted miller to see if I can get the machine checked out. This isn't my first rodeo with getting a miller machine fixed.
255 is better than the 252?how thicker materialvxan it weld?
We recommend checking out the Millermatic 252 and 255 product pages and spec sheets to what would work better for your welding needs. The Millermatic 255 can weld Aluminum 18 ga. (1.02 mm) - 1/2 (13mm) and Mild Steel 24 ga. (.51 mm) - 1/2 (13mm).

I’m a hobbyist with regards to welding and have been using a Lincoln SP-175+ MIG machine for 25-years. I was interested in switching to Miller with a 255 to try MIG Pulse. From the comments read here, is the 255 an unreliable machine and the 255 Pulse feature not worth chasing?

@@MillerWelders , thank you for the quick reply. I have no doubt many many 255 owners are are happy, but the number of complaints I’ve seen are troubling. The feed to those rollers looks really tilted up, which may not be helping. Hopefully they are not planted reviewers from Lincoln.
I could go with the 355, but it’s double in price and crazy money to spend for a hobby guy.
I already talked to the application experts at Miller a couple of weeks ago when first looking at the 215, naturally they have nothing but positive things to say, which is what I expect a manufacturer to say, which is why I have to resort to YT and the Internet as sketchy as they are.
Why did they put that rinky dink door on the cart with NO hinge so it falls off every time you open it??? Did they change that yet?
Number one reason I won't buy their cart. Dumb design.
My new Miller 255 quit within a few months of buying it in the middle of an important job. The PCboard burnt up. It took over 4 months to get it repaired (Because Miller was waiting parts from China).Praxair didnt have anything to loan me. But I could rent one for $200.00 a week. Thatwould have been 3200.00 in rent. I bought HTP Propluse 300 For $4400.00 then sold the Miller 255 when it finally returned.Miller Quality has gone dowwn hill very fast. Since 1984 I've only used Miller blue. Today's blue is about as trust worthly as those in washington. Miller if you're going to charge $4400.00 for mig welder build it heavy & to last 20 years like my old Blue did.

I am a 3rd year welding teacher at a high school and we three of these out of the box last school year, January 2022. Worked fine till recently. Despite having full gas cylinders of 75% Ar and 25% CO2 and pressurized to provide 20 CFH our welds are looking like we forgot to turn the gas on. I think something it blocking the gas flow at the end of the gun. Looking for help to solve this dilemma so we can get these machines working again.
Swap out the gauges with a known good set, defective gauges will cause that issue. Mine did the same thing. 😉
Burnback into the tip is my issue.
I’ve read several other 255 owners with the same issue. You may want to check the wire feed path and the wire. Some guys said it happens most often during the last 10% or more of a large wire spool. Another guy said it happened if his gun cable isn’t in a straight line. I would make sure your wire roller tension is good, try giving it more…and run premium clean wire.
Please let us know if or how you fix it. I was hoping to buy a 255, but skeptical.
@@rays9033 I had to speed up the Run in speed to 65. It doesn't burn back into the tip anymore. I have been MIG welding with it on manual also. If you plan on buying it know that you can't TIG weld aluminum because it won't switch to AC. All I did was speed up the Run in speed and run it on manual. Glad I figured it out before I went through another box of tips. Buy it!
Flip a coin. If you buy it and hate it. Don't blame me!
@@jefff2009 awesome solution, you’re a genius! You could sell that solution to a lot of 255 owners. I’m not sure why one guy said it happened more when near the last 10% wire on the spool, may be due to more drag on the wire due to the wire angle feeding the roller guide entrance?
I’m also not sure when most folks experienced the burn-back, at the start of a weld pass or during or at all times when using Pulse? I think the Run-in option can be disabled too, so that may help…or create other issues? My old Lincoln SP-175+ MIG does not have “Run-in” capabilities, it’s a basic transformer machine.
Yep, the Multimatic 255 will not do AC TIG, so I’m want the MIG Millermatic 255. I plan to get a Everlast 325-EXT for TIG, which may open a different can of worms!

Pretty soon you won't need to be a welder !!!, just tell the machine "weld this", then all you do is inspect it !!! 😃😃😃
