I don't think of it the same way. In various religions (which the Jedi/Sith can be considered religion, and Lucas was heavily inspired by various religions when creating Star Wars) the word "balance" means "harmony". Harmony is the opposite of Chaos. When there is no more chaos and upheaval, there is balance. So it's not that there are two sith, two jedi to balance the scales...it's that the force will be in balance when peace and harmony are restored.

Some of these teachings/writings/documents about the force are not open to all Jedi and the Rank of Master allows you more access. So Anakin being put on the Jedi Council and Palpatine insinuating that Anakin will be a Master gives Anakin hope that he can finally search the libraries full inventory for ways to save Padme. He did _not_ say, "I've been trained as a _Jedi,"_ because he _hasn't_ been. General Grievous doesn't have the Force. He's a good strategist and a feared Jedi hunter, and his cybernetic enhancements make him fast, but because he doesn't have the Force, he's _absolutely_ no match for Obi-Wan, even with four lightsabers to Obi-Wan's one.

@@Stogie2112Then how did he come about? Even with an immaculate conception something is at work to bring it about. Up until Disney invalidated the EU it was part of the larger canon. And unless Disney decides to gut the opera house scene from the movie it is still implied Plagueis's experiments led to the birth of Anakin when Palpatine looks at Anakin very pointedly as he explains how Plagueis influenced midichlorians to create life. It may be subtextual but the dialogue and delivery have weight.

@@mdroid7755 .... The simplest explanation is that the Force itself created Anakin in the womb. The Force alone, with no intervention from anyone, created Anakin so that he would bring balance.
A few words from Palpatine about Darth Plagueis (which could have been a lie), are not sufficient evidence of anyone manipulating the Force to create Anakin.
We must remember that Palpatine was constantly manipulating Anakin with lies and half-truths, just to turn him to the Dark Side. His story about Plagueis and how he could stop death was probably a lie.

    • @mdroid7755
      @mdroid7755 4 месяца назад

@@Stogie2112 That makes little sense. If the Force overtly directed the course of the galaxy in such a way to create Anakin then why did it not act on its own initiative in the same way any of the other times there was imbalance? What about that specific timeframe made it more important for Anakin to exist when he did? Why are we not awash with other immaculate conceptions in the galaxy? You'd think if the Force just had a habit of generating random babies then it shouldn't bewilder the Jedi when one shows up.
And, as you say, Palpatine was giving Anakin lies and half truths to manipulate him for years. That's not in dispute. But I don't see why he couldn't also tell the truth to manipulate him just as easily. Telling the tale of how he took knowledge from his master and killed him when he had nothing useful left is very much in the vein of pride a Sith would have. He's clearly boasting about his actions even if he obscured they were his in the moment. And further, all Anakin was concerned with was the stopping death part and Palpatine would have had him regardless without the mention of other powers. So why mention influencing the Force to create life unless it had bearing, i.e. hinting at the secret of Anakin's own existence?

According to George Lucas, Anakin WAS an immaculate conception. That's all we have to go on. Why is that so difficult for people to accept? The only "hinting" at Anakin's creation is in the minds of fans.
It may be fun to imagine hypothetical scenarios with Palpatine and Plagueis creating Anakin, but it's still just fan speculation. Nothing from Lucas or the other writers confirm it. Therefore, it's a waste of time discussing it.

I credit you for connecting Chancellor Palpatine to the Emperor with the last movie. The Emperor was never actually named in the OT, and when it was filmed, Ian Mcdiarmid would have been 39, and had a lot of make-up prosthetics. In TPM he would have been 58, 60 when this was filmed, and for the most part, no make-up. It was always really interesting to me how that worked out, that he was able to play younger Palpatine when he was older.
Credit due, McDiarmid still gets into a soundbooth for Palpatine, as he popped up in a season 3 Bad batch appearance, and while VAs like Sam Witwer does a good Palps, Ian is the original.

The Jedi were destroyed because they lost their calling to serve the will of the Force. They have become very political, and serve the Senate and the Republic more. This was confirmed by Obi Wan when he told Vader "My allegiance is to the Republic, to Democracy!" Although in fact this is not the path of a true Jedi, and Qui-Gon (Obi-Wan’s master understood this, which is why he was at odds with the Jedi Council. How did Anakin go from being a sweet little boy to Darth Vader? Well.... it was all the Jedi's fault.
If Qui-gon Jinn had lived, things may have turned out differently, as he was clearly the father figure that the boy needed, but Obi-wan had to fill in instead, and always viewed Anakin as a younger brother. Also, being just out of training himself, Obi-wan wasn't prepared to train a 9 year old boy (since most Jedi Younglings are taken to the Temple at age 1-2). The Jedi never thought to free his mother from slavery even though it would have been a simple affair for them, and tried to force their dogmatic teachings of emotion suppression on him after he'd already developed his own persona (which is why children are taken to the Temple so young, so they don't form attachments and are thus molded in the Jedi way from the start).
Obi-wan was used to this style of teaching and was not prepared for how Anakin would react to how harsh he was, sowing the seeds of resentment in him early. Anakin has also seen all of the corruption in the Republic, in the Senate via his dealings with Padme during the Clone Wars, their turning a blind eye to smuggling, slavery, and other bad shit in the name of profit, and even the Jedi's hypocrisy in claiming to be peacekeepers and yet pushing for more offensives during the war instead of even attempting diplomacy.
Add to that when Anakin goes to Yoda for advice, he gets the typical "Hands-off" treatment that Yoda is famous for, and is left feeling completely misunderstood, which further confuses his loyalties. He wants to be a good Jedi, but he sees how what they do isn't always good. He's always held that a benevolent tyranny is better than a democracy of idiots and thieves, and Palpatine uses that and other confidences to draw him in to his plots while seeming to be a friend. This is not Anakin's fault, and he does try to do the right thing after he finds out Palpatine is Darth Sidious, but then he sees Mace Windu do the exact thing he berated himself for earlier as 'not the Jedi way' and realises the Jedi are not the good guys they should be.
After this, he basically feels like he has no choice but to follow through on his actions, which we all know is just digging himself into a deeper hole, but he doesn't realize this at first. Having always viewed the Dark Side as just another tool and not an inherently corrupting force also leads to his fall, especially after being told he's THE CHOSEN ONE his whole life and seeing the power he gets from tapping the Dark Side. You can tell he regrets some of what he's doing when he's standing on that balcony on Mustafar, tears falling, but he's in too deep now to go back.
Finally, his outer hatred of Obi-Wan, of the Order, and of the Republic at the end are just pale reflections of his own self-hatred for all of the things he's done and knowing in the end that he didn't even achieve his goal of saving Padme. This is where his true strength as Vader comes from.
Anakin would’ve done better in the older Jedi order (over 1,000 years ago) which was more pragmatic, more adaptable, and didn’t discourage attachments. Back then Jedi even had families and kids of their own. In the past it was the Sith who were dogmatic, and rigid. However ever since the last battle between the Jedi and the Sith (1,000 years ago) it’s now the Jedi who are too rigid, whereas the Sith had evolved and adapted.
What Palpatine said about the Republic not being what it once was in Episode One, the same can be said of the current Jedi Order, ever since their last battle with the Sith. The Jedi had become too dogmatic, arrogant, rigid, and too detached from others. The Jedi had also become too out of touch with things, they failed to see that the galaxy was changing, that people had lost faith in the Republic which had become too corrupt and dysfunctional. The hypocrisy of the Jedi is that while they preached against attachments, they were too ‘attached’ to the Republic and the power that it gave them, they had become too political. They chose to follow the will of a corrupt Senate instead of the will of the Force like Qui Gon did.
Qui Gon was the last true Jedi until Luke came along, he understood how misguided the Order had become. Obi Wan should’ve followed his example and not taken a seat on the Council. Anakin felt more alone after Ahsoka left the Order and it seemed to him that Obi Wan had chosen the Council over him, that he had abandoned him. Only after the fall of the Republic and the Order did Obi Wan realize that Qui Gon had been right all along. Both Obi Wan and Yoda went about training Luke a lot differently, they were kinder, more understanding, and not so rigid. They were both determined to mend the mistakes they had made with Anakin. Luke’s new Order in Star Wars Legends is a lot better than the previous Order had been.

The main reason the Jedi Council did not make Anakin a Jedi Master is because while Anakin was a master of the Force, he was not a master of himself and his emotions.
The Jedi Council could sense the dark side surrounding the Chancellor. They did not suspect the Chancellor because he was already the leader of the Republic.
Instead, they remembered what Dooku had told Kenobi on Geonosis. He said many Senators were under the influence of a Sith Lord.
The Jedi Council suspected someone in the Chancellor’s inner circle was the Sith Lord. THIS is what the Jedi Council wanted Anakin to observe, not directly spy on the Chancellor.
The last time Obi-Wan and Anakin spoke on friendly terms, Obi-Wan told him that it would not be long before the Jedi Council made Anakin a Jedi Master.
Assigning Anakin to observe the Chancellor was a test of his loyalty. Was Anakin more committed to the Chancellor or the Jedi? Anakin passed the test when he reported his findings to Master Windu
I believe Master Windu told Anakin to wait for him in the Jedi Council chambers because Master Windu wanted to convene the Jedi Council and elevate Anakin to the rank of Jedi Master.

Anakin had built his entire life on his love for Padmé. That made him an easy target for Palpatine.
Luke cared deeply about his friends, but he never knew his mother, nor was he romantically involved with a woman.

I said this in a previous comment, but a lot of people think that the force is in balance when there are the same amount of Sith as there are Jedi. But this I do not believe to be true. George Lucas was heavily inspired by various religions when creating Star Wars, particularly when discussing the Force, the Light and the Dark; the Jedi and the Sith. In various religions, the word "balance" means harmony, more than it means literal equilibrium. In some religions, things are out of balance when there is Chaos. The presence of the Sith represent Chaos, and the upsetting of harmony (balance). Therefore the Force can only be in balance once there is peace and harmony.

When there were thousands of Jedi and Sith there was no balance. When there were thousands of Jedi and only two Sith there was no balance. And then there was a time when the Jedi thought the Sith were no more, yet they the Jedi or at least some of them, still believed in or were aware of the prophecy of a Chosen One to balance the Force. If the Sith were no longer around why would there need to be a balance? Well for one the Sith weren't the only embodiment of the dark side. There were others who used the dark side who weren't Sith, just like there were those who weren't Jedi but used or were influenced by the the light side, and those somewhere in between. For example, although there was a rule of just two, The Master and the apprentice, there were plenty of Sith acolytes, dark side users who were basically Sith lite. There were also people like the Witches of Dathomir who were force sensitive and heavily leaned dark side. So the theory that their had to be an equal amount of Jedi and Sith for balance makes no sense and always annoyed me.

I remember when they announced they were making the prequel trilogy way back when. We sat around wondering what it was going to be like. I'm not one for 'asking' anything of creative people, I just want to go and see/hear and experience something, good or bad, just take me on a journey. But I did wonder where the names Luke and Leia came from. So I figured maybe they'd be other characters that we'll see, and therefor they would influence the parents. So there I am years later, lol, and now in the final few minutes of this movie, at this point having given up any hope of the naming bit of trivia... then we see Padme just nonchalantly name her kids(!). Like as if those two names were already on the tip of her tongue, they came out without any hesitation. Lol, I just thought that is some weird trolling, lol. I mean, imagine at the beginning of the 2nd film, when they land and Padme's decoy and ship get bombed and Padme rushes over to console her. All it would have taken would be a simple "Stay with me, Leia, the medics are on their way." SO simple. Or instead of Obi Wan's friend named Cody, he was named Luke. And Padme died before naming him (I know I know, just flip the kids around, lol). Ben hands the baby to the aunt and he names him. It would have been such a beautiful addition to the story. Shame on you George, lol. ANYWAYS, I loved this watchalong with you two.

The prophecy was misread by the Jedi Council because they didn't quite know what "balance in the Force" meant
They automatically assumed that was all about getting rid of their archnemesis, the Sith, once and for all
Why? Because at the same time this was discussed in Episode l, the Sith were thought of being back because of Qui-Gon's fight with Maul on Tatooine
Anakin wasn't a weapon to use to fight the enemy, he was to be the conduit for both sides of the Force, light AND dark
If he was trained properly by Qui-Gon, then Anakin would've been able to control the scales easier and not go ballistic because of the highly flawed system that the Jedi label as peace of mind
As Palpatine said, the Council was weary of how their "power" would be taken from them, "power" they fought so hard for in the form of peace when the Sith were thought to be gone
Anakin was always meant to wield the dark side, just not this way
    Palpatine's plan warped that intent

It's all well and good the Sith was destroyed (for a while anyway)
It was just a convenience for it to happen
To save you the trouble, Anakin was asked to take the Father's place on Mortis to continue the neverending task of overseeing balance in the Force
In Ahsoka, the version of Anakin we see shows him being able to effortlessly wield both the light and dark sides of the Force
You don't believe me? Watch and do with what you see as you like

Grievous is a cyborg, not a droid. He was a Kaleesh warlord that was VERY sour when the Jedi intervened in a war his people started against a neighboring people called the Huk and defeated them, and the head of the Banking Clan conspired to present him as a gift to Dooku as a general for their armies (as he was a brilliant strategist and would have won that war if not for the Jedi). He had a bomb placed on Grievous' shuttle when he was returning home to Kalee to aid his people against a renewed assault by the Huk, which caused his shuttle to crash and severely injured him. Dooku had him rebuilt with cybernetic implants, which over time ended up becoming more and more of his body, until only his heart, lungs, eyes, and brain remained. The implant irritated his lungs, hence the coughing.

"Virtual Hug!" May the Force be with you!
The one thing I appreciate the most about the prequel trilogy is the very slow burn of watching Anakin be influenced and manipulated by Palpatine all along, and to see his descent into madness to become Vader. That whole journey is basically the point of these films. Many people complain that there is a lot of boring politics; "trade disputes" seldom make for interesting action adventure movies. Palatine's manipulation of the war, playing both sides against each other to gain power, "accepting" leadership, "accepting" more power, ascending to create The Empire. Not quite as interesting from a personal relationships standpoint, not a lot of action to those sections, but a picture of political will at its worst: well-crafted, that. And there is enough action, light sabers, explosions, leaping about Jedi force stuff, throughout the films: some of the best light saber battles of the whole series- originals and sequels included- are in these prequel films.
There are some mis-steps: Jar-Jar is the most cited. Padme's change from bad-ass queen, to bad-ass senator, to meek mild wife and pregnant lady is a weird vibe switch for that character. Natalie Portman acts the hell out of that role all the way through, but she was done dirty at the end, there. Anakin's complaint about sand is one of my friend's personal grudges he's held for decades, now: he never misses an opportunity to mock that speech. I'm mostly willing to look past a paragraph or two of slightly clunky dialogue, or a comedic relief character that goes too far, even Padme's character drop I'm willing to sadly shake my head and look past in deference to the greater story arc.
My biggest complaints are the continuity errors or ret-cons compared to the original trilogy. When making a prequel, you have a LOT of predestination to deal with. We KNOW for a fact that A, B, and C are going to happen; we've already seen the "future" in the original trilogy. The prequels' job is to tell us HOW we got from here to there. But when they insert certain twists and wrinkles, certain things start to get messy. And that bothers me. R2D2 and C3PO playing such large parts in these films, but the Obi-Wan of the future seeming to not know anything about them: was he pretending? 3PO had his memory wiped; R2 I'm not sure about. Vader/Anakin seems to know nothing of their involvement in the fight against him. The idea that Darth Vader himself, at the age of nine, built C3PO as a hobby project: that is WILD. I really super hate that that is a canon fact. I try to reject that from my mind whenever possible. The decision to give Luke to literally Anakin's half-brother: how is that "hiding" him from anybody? His home planet? The only family Anakin has left? Nobody thinks that's a risk at all? Several others that I started to type but deleted. Too rant-y.
So anyway. I wish that they had been more careful with tying this prequel into the future in ways that made sense and didn't lead to plot-holes or fantastical cosmic coincidences. But I did appreciate the long and tragic journey of Anakin's turn to The Dark Side.
I have further thoughts about the sequel trilogy, but now is not the time for those...
