    Hey. So what would you say are the main stand out differences between the P8 and P10 asides from the price… if both had the Apheta3, thanks 😊

    • @joeylopezphd
      @joeylopezphd Год назад +3

      The plinth, platter and arm are completely different, ceramic materials are used on the plinth and platter, the arm is a huge upgrade. Also the outboard power supply is a half size component with a full size din adaptor, aka much higher spec power supply.

      Like Joey said, a lot, but most importantly is the sound is just that much better on the P10. Contrary to what some people believe - the cartridge is not the MOST important factor on a turntable.

      Thanks guys, I love joeys enthusiasm about Rega. I’ve got the P8 w/Apheta3 & Aethos, it is pretty special. Friends tell me that the P8 is like a piece of art & it looked like the starship enterprise! … i can live with it happily until I can afford the P10 mothership… talking of space themes, I just got the Rega Saturn mk3, that rocks too 🤩👩🏻‍🎤🪐

      Hi. Thanks for the review. I’m looking into getting the Rega P8 and would like to know how it would sound with a Shure V15V MR cartridge. I’ve had it for years and love how it sounds. I would appreciate any insight you may have in regards. Thank you.

    Great stuff as usual. I agree, a P8/Exact into an Elicit mk5 driving speakers of choice would be a seriously good system.

    I favoured the P8 over the P10 because I just couldn't get behind the ceramic aesthetics of the P10, but I don't regret that; the P8 (with Apheta 3) just sounds fantastic and has me grinning and jumping around on a daily basis.
    My P8 is going through an Aria which right now is feeding an old Audiolab 8000a, but I'll be putting an Aethos in shortly enough. That will give me more of the sound I want, and feels pretty close to endgame for me, if not actually there.
    Having the MM stage on the Aria free, I got a cheap AT LP60X as a second deck for testing second hand LPs and suchlike. I don't think many people put one of those through an Aria.
    I wasn't expecting much, but the Aria made that sound amazing too. Part of that is that the AT really is as good as it gets for it's price point, but it also highlights the importance of good phono preamplification. I would say that the AT through the excellent MM stage on the Aria probably even sounded better than the P8 through the relatively weak MC stage on the Audiolab, and wouldn't hesitate to suggest a phono stage upgrade over a cartridge or other upgrade as the best option at the budget end of the scale.

    I have a P6, it did have an Exact on it which I found a bit dull so switched it out for a 2m Bronze. Would probably look at a Bronze or Black on a P8 if I made the jump

    Hi, You mentioned the pairing of the P8 and the Aphelion2. Any favorable impressions over the Apheta3? If anyone out there has first hand experience with this rare pairing I'd like to hear what that was. Thank you.

    • @Dreamonoids
      @Dreamonoids  Год назад +1

      The Aphelion 2 is too much cartridge for a Planar 8. It’s suited for the Planar 10. The Aphelion 2 blows the Apheta 3 out of water which is why there is such a price jump.

    tHE p9 HAS A BETTER POWER SUPPLY

    • @joeylopezphd
      @joeylopezphd 4 месяца назад

      The P9 does not have a better power supply, the neo’s development is post the P9’s and it 4 iterations away at that. That said, the P9 is a lovely turntable and its power supply is no slouch.

    • @Dreamonoids

    Blind listening test, same cart, same ancilliary gear, hard pushed to tell difference.....against a P1...hell not 2 grand+ worth of difference in sound quality

    • @joeylopezphd

    • @joeylopezphd

      An analogy that might make it clearer is if you took a great inexpensive motor (cartridge) and put it in an eco car and then you took the same motor and put it in a high end sports car, it will definitely have a different track time.
      A lot of people only thing of electrical when it comes to audio, but turntables are electromechanical devices. It’s just that simple.

    • @nigelsmith2044
      @nigelsmith2044 Год назад

      The question and only question should be to a customer in a blind listening test is which sounds better to you...ok do lengthy test if needed...its not about price...its about subjective enjoyment of the sound by the individual..if the person canr tell.any sort of significant difference over extended test, buy the least expensive piece of kit

    • @Dreamonoids
      @Dreamonoids  Год назад +1

      Price is relative to an individual’s situation. Overpriced to you might be a drop in the bucket for another. The extra cost might be well worth it for some. You cannot determine one’s price range based on your viewpoint on cost.

    • @nigelsmith2044
      @nigelsmith2044 Год назад

      Sighted listening of equipment introduces psycological barriers to determining best sound subjectively..i.e....brand, model within the brand, external input from reviewers on thar brans, it colours a persons asesment of the sound
