@@ironkid8836 there are a few reasons. I've wanted an Xmid since the first time I saw one because I'm a big fan of trekking pole tents. It's very light weight, sheds the wind really well and the internal space is class. Plus it looks pretty nice and is relatively affordable. I would like to get my hands on a Hilleberg but they're very heavy and very expensive. For good reason too, they're extremely robust and reliable tents in severe weather but overkill for most of what I do. I'd struggle to justify packing the hilleberg for the vast majority of my camps, purely because of it's weight. Where as I would happily pack my Xmid and wouldn't second guess it. I haven't thoroughly tested the Durston but I'm pretty confident it will serve me well over the coming years
Thoroughly enjoyed that. But man, it home when you talked about just leaving the house is the most difficult part. It really is! I can easily convince myself not to go, bags packed and everything and the last minute, don't bother. I'm getting better at not giving into those thoughts though as literally once round the corner, you'd feel like a right eejit going home again 😂 how you liking the new tent? I also love how much you love your tea. I'm the same! Im always ready for a cup of tea, people don't even need to ask. 100% the hardest part of my camps. I find now that it's better to tell those thoughts to F off as soon as they try to enter my head 🤣 I'm loving the tent to be fair, it's a beaut and it holds up really well. There's a few little things I'm not overjoyed about but I'll keep testing it out. Oh yeah if I didn't have tea the camp just wouldn't be the same at all. I'd be well miserable 😄 Ah sure these things happen, just have to make the best of it. I love the misty foggy weather, it makes the landscape look completely different. Good to be alive is right, have a good one man 🙌

I have left home and drove for an hour to do a day tramp (hike) when I got to the forest, I parked up, opened the boot, and found that I had left my pack behind. I went back and it was waiting for me on the deck. 3 hours later I set of on the track. It can happen to the most organised people. ATB Cheers from the mountains of NZ 😀😀
😂 I'm glad that I am not the only one, fair play to you for heading back out in the end. I once drove for an hour and a half before it popped into my head that I had forgotten my boots... Jason, those looked like Bangor Trail levels of wetness on the way to your cool camp spot with those views over to snow capped Lug (before the mist and darkness came). Keeping the toes warm is as much of a challenge❄ as finding a truly flat camp😊 I cant remember he last time I had a calm night in a tent without that wind🌬 The motivation to get out is a big one, especially if the weather isn't warm and sunny. The Bangor trail is one I would love to do, I'll re watch your video before I attempt it. I have been looking up thermal socks, who knew there were socks with Primaloft insulation in them 😧 If I can sort my feet I'll be grand. A slightly bruised arm is all of my souvenirs from the slips which isn't so bad. As my grandfather used to say, it's a long way from my arse.. I won't sit on it 😄

I was very comfortable on the night apart from the feet situation so I have to suss that out. I've been steering clear of reviews recently, I want to just get out and use the gear I have. 100% I'm going to be trying to get somewhere new every week this year. It might be in the same mountain range as a pervious camp but in a different location. I'll definitely be back to Wicklow, no idea when but I'll be back

Great video. Appreciate all the work that went into it. Also great review on the X-Mid 1 solid. I'm debating getting that or a Tarptent Stratospire or Dipole. How are those short corner guy lines when it comes to working around rocks? Supposedly they can't extend as it messes up the geometry. Still think it's roomy inside? Looks like you were right up against the inner, particularly at the ends. Hard to compare the inside volume on these tents from just online viewing, but this "real use" video is the most useful. Thanks for recording all the dripping from the inner. Double wall is better than single but obviously has it's limits.
The corner lines are quite short. I was going to lengthen them but I haven't had much of an issue with them so far. You could extend them without messing up the geometry , I wouldn't worry about that. The inner space is really nice, especially considering this is a one man tent. You have to remember that I'm filming myself talking to a camera 😄 I need to be as far away from the camera as I can to get a good shot so that might have given you the impression that I was cramped. If I wasn't recording I wouldn't have needed to be so far back. It's a nice tent, my biggest gripe is the angle of the inner. It makes lining up a narrow flat piece of ground difficult. I have another windy video in this tent which should be out in two weeks time all going well. Cheers for watching 🍀

Ah cheers Paul I will check out the seat. It can be bought in Europe but it's hard to find. I have a UGQ -6c Bandit quilt. It's class, but the import charges from the US would make you sick. It only weighs about 900g, which is why I went for a quilt. I'd never go back to a sleeping bag. I love hiking in the dark and having the sun slowly rise. It's pretty good

Ah savage, I've tried the Pyramid but not the wedge. They're so good and the DD ones are great with so many tie outs. I should take my tarp out more often 🤔 Fair play, powdered milk was a game changer I have to say. Have a good one 👍

I love seeing the difference in what makes a "cold" camping trip for others. In Canada we can regularly get down to -20 to -30 on the colder days, and "mild" is above -15 C. I went out at -7 last week and it was really nice compared to the colder weather so I got a chuckle out of it being the colder temps for you. Looks like it was a lovely trip though. Going out when the weather is meh can still be a great time, no matter what your meh is
Just the man... How do you keep your feet warm? I follow a few people over in Canada, such a beautiful place to live. You are extremely fortunate, I would only love to go out there and explore it. I have heard a lot of people say that because of the wet climate here, the temperature feels colder. So a wet -10 over here would feel like a dry -20 over your way. That's just what I've heard on other channels from people who hike in the US and Canada and then go to the likes of Scotland. Either way you acclimatise to the conditions after a while and require less layers etc. It's great to be out in bad weather when you have the right gear to keep your warm and dry. @@RamblingOn my dad always told me you lose a lot of heat through your feet and head, so I bring a good set of ski socks ($50+) a hat for my head, and layer the rest of my body. Not sure how accurate it is too but going pee before bed helps too I find. Not sure if they sell insulated winter boot where you're at but I have winter boots shoes that when paired will good socks will keep my feet warm down to -20, and I usually change socks when I get to camp and take off the sweaty ones. Weather helps too, rainy -7 vs sunny -7 makes a difference like in summer too. I will agree in the cold with you, I lived in thunder Bay Canada and Ottawa. Tbay is dry, Ottawa is wet, -40 in Tbay feels like -20 in Ottawa. Dry cold is much less harsh because the wind & air doesn't't steel all your heat away. If you're not used to really low temps, I can imagine a cold wet -7 being not the best.
@@granthw4993 Ski socks!!! Why didn't I think of that. I'll look and see if I can get a pair, I don't think I would need the boots. The only times my feet get very cold are sitting outside the tent. I have a few tips now to try out so I'll give those a whirl. The feet were my only real issue on the night. I have a good Dutch army wool hat that's double layered and if I need it I can use a merino wool tube scarf as a makeshift hat liner, which works incredibly well to be fair. @@RamblingOn glad to help, good rule of thumb for the socks too is the more expensive ones will be better performance. I only have 1 pair of them for the really cold days but they last if you take care of them and are really good for warmth. Down booties might also be an option, you can find some cheap ones on AliExpress if you're not concerned about how they source the down.
@Grant Hw I had down booties on the night but found that they didn't do much. I always look for the RDS certifications. I wouldn't buy without that. I like the ski socks, I'm looking them up now. There's even silk liner socks 🤔

Great vid man, was in that neck of the woods myself at the weekend. Were you up on Corrigasleggaun? Next time you do porridge try bringing cinnamon, vanilla extract, honey, and my secret ingredient, a handful of raisins soaked in whiskey the night before. You’d run up the Lug in the nip after it!

@@RamblingOn I don't know if it would make a difference, but I always use plain oats for porridge.( incredibly cheap compared with the fancy ready made options)👍 Boil more water than you need for just your tea, then the water straight on it and stirred in well, then left for a couple of minutes. Porridge rehydrating while tea brewing. Winner! I would think that mixing up some Marvel (tm) would give you that creaminess and the dried fruit sounds a top idea. Loving the channel and great to see you enjoying yourself so much !

@@RamblingOn So it DOES work outdoors! 😁I actually 'discovered' this from not wanting to microwave me porridge in the morning because it kept exploding (the porridge, not the microwave)🤡While I'm all for a bit of breakfast time excitement, was wasting a fair bit of oats and it doesn't scrub off easily. I reasoned that since I had boiling water in the kettle, it would likely be less dangerous and messy to use that, instead..Take care and keep on keeping on 👍
This camp was a pretty windy one and I didn't feel any wind or drafts at all once the inner door was closed up. The mesh section on the door is quite high so you should have no issues with drafts especially when you are lying down
To be honest I wouldn't recommend them at all. They did pretty much nothing to keep my feet warm, I might use them to store batteries in or something 😄 There are Montane Prism booties that look class. They have primaloft Gold insulation and a pertex ripstop fabric. The look like a proper job so could be worth checking out. I will be getting some for next winter

Now then young fella. I'm maybe looking at getting a Durston xmid 1 solid or a 2 man version. Just wondered if you would recommend the 1man version? Was there enough headroom to sit up comfortably comfortably in the inner part. Or could you fo with abit more headroom? Was there enough room inside to be comfortable without being cramped? How did it stand up to strong winds and rain? I m looking to do the Cape Wrath trail next year and need a lightweight tent that will be spacious enough to be comfy for 3 weeks backpacking. Would you recommend or go to a 2man version for the extra room? Let me know. Thanks!!
The X-Mid 1 offers plenty of space for me inside. I’m 187 cm tall, and I’ve got plenty of headroom, even enough to use my Crazy Creek chair comfortably. If I appear a bit cramped at the end of the tent in some shots, keep in mind that it’s because I need to position myself far from the camera to get everything in the frame. The tent has two large vestibules, so if you store your bag and boots on one side and use the other side for entry and your stove, you’ll have more than enough room. I haven’t experienced any issues in the wind, and up close, you can really appreciate the quality of the stitching and materials. My only real issue is with the magnet in the door-it doesn’t stay secure if you like to keep the side guyed out at the base, as the magnet isn’t strong enough to hold against the tension. I’ve solved this by adding a bit of bungee and a carabiner. If you prefer to keep your pack inside with you, I’d recommend going for the 2-person version. @siraidanofmayo7678 I don't know of any for sale at the moment. I've seen one or two on.the second hand markets but you can't buy them new in Ireland unless you order from the US as far as I know. That's how I got mine. I won't be selling mine, it would be very hard to let go of. Funny enough the army were firing that night and it soundednlike a tank but because of the wind I couldn't get the audio on camera. I edited it out because I didn't want people thinking I was making things up just to get views but it did worry me I have to say

Hi Jason I’m after a lightweight tent for winter. I’ve already got a 4 season Nortent Vern 1 with some upgraded dac poles but want something that’s lightweight as I’m having to take out heavier winter gear. I’ve a Lanshan 2 Pro for summer. Would you trust the XMid over winter with the solid inner or will you be moving back to something else yourself please? Have you tried the XMid 2 at all? Also do you have a link I could use for the gloves you’re wearing on this video as I have been looking for something that’s easily converted from being open to giving some good insulation. I'm spoilt for choice at the moment. I've far too many options when it comes to tents but the Xmid would work well for those long winter nights. Mine is the one person and there's enough room inside and enough headroom for me to be comfortable for the longer nights. You could use a tent like the Xmid for those nights where the weather doesn't look too menacing and have the Nortent for when it looks like the weather might really kick off. I've had the Xmid out in some pretty poor conditions and I will be using it in the winter months. I'd have no worries really, again if the weather was really looking bad a sensible option is the heavier tent. If it's very cold I'd suggest pitching it so that the fly is as close to the ground as possible to reduce the cold draught. So long story short I'd be happy to use the Xmid for 90% of my camps but I'd keep a tent like the Nortent for those other camps where the bulk pays off. The gloves are from Valleret, the Markhof Pro I think but Decathlon have gloves that I much prefer. I would recommend using them with a glove liner for added warmth. The liners can develop holes in the finger tips, as they are merino wool they are not very durable but they are really warm so I think they're worth it.

I took my X-Mid 2 out a couple of weekends ago for the first time and epically failed to get it pitched in windy conditions...although you did tell me not to attempt it. 😂 I really need to get myself over to Ireland for a few days hiking and wild camping. Do you have any thoughts on how tolerated it is over there compared to England and Wales?
So far so good, it's my new favourite tent... For now 😄 I remember talking to you about that camp. Did you have to bail on it or did you manage to get yourself sorted? Have you managed to give it a try since in better weather? It's pretty well tolerated here to be fair. If you go to some of the national parks they have policies and guidelines on it for each park that you can find online. I've never had any issues. I wish it was like Scotland though
Imagine a couple of army guys suddenly appearing wanting your cup of tea or in the morning you notice a movement beside the tent and they were sleeping in bivvy bags beside you. 😂
🤣 I wouldn't envy them being out in a bivvy in that weather. I did hear distant consistent gunfire but the wind was so bad I couldn't pick it up on camera so they must have been firing that night. Mad stuff
Having a good R rated mat is really important but there are more affordable alternatives. You can use mats with a lesser R rating and increase that R rating by adding in an additional closed cell foam or foil pads. It just means carrying more bulk and weight. You also need to pair the mat with a sleeping bag or quilt that will be warm enough for the conditions.
@@RamblingOn Yeah mate, True. big thing to get off the ground, maybe, the alpkit nuno was ok, but I got the yellow thermorest and that is more comfortable, I dunno, 2 matts would'nt weight that much if foam, but they are bulky to carry, the alpkit nuno is quite good for £40 quid. thanks for that. to a degree, but not -7. I thinkl made mistake getting zpacks single tent, instead of duplex. hopefully be out walking sw coast path this summer
@@jketcham9004 if you have the thermarest Xlite then that is a really good mat. R value of 4.2 which is great for 3 seasons. Pair it with a foil pad which won't add much weight and it should be good going in to the winter. Try it out gradually and see how it goes. Maybe you have the Zlite pads. They would be bulky to carry but work well to add some R value. There's a few ways to do it but a decent R rated sleep mat is worth the few bob. Its a case of buy once cry once. They are excellent, it's like having an electric blanket underneath you. It's the best way to describe it. Best of luck on your hike 🙌
Its a UGQ Bandit -6c.. Savage quilt but the import charges would make you cry. Enlightened equipment do something similar and can be bought in europe I think🤔
I had a pair of booties but they did next to nothing unfortunately. I'm going to get a better quality pair of Montane booties, they cost and weigh twice as much but they'll be much better I hope 🤞
@texmexia49 I think that the ones I have are not very good. I'm sure there's others out there that perform much better. I've my eye on a few bits to help me out like the montane booties, ski socks and those hand/feet warmers you mentioned. I should have toasty toes in no time 😄

I have left home and drove for an hour to do a day tramp (hike) when I got to the forest, I parked up, opened the boot, and found that I had left my pack behind. I went back and it was waiting for me on the deck. 3 hours later I set of on the track. It can happen to the most organised people. ATB Cheers from the mountains of NZ 😀😀

Jason, those looked like Bangor Trail levels of wetness on the way to your cool camp spot with those views over to snow capped Lug (before the mist and darkness came). Keeping the toes warm is as much of a challenge❄ as finding a truly flat camp😊 I cant remember he last time I had a calm night in a tent without that wind🌬 The motivation to get out is a big one, especially if the weather isn't warm and sunny. The Bangor trail is one I would love to do, I'll re watch your video before I attempt it. I have been looking up thermal socks, who knew there were socks with Primaloft insulation in them 😧 If I can sort my feet I'll be grand. A slightly bruised arm is all of my souvenirs from the slips which isn't so bad. As my grandfather used to say, it's a long way from my arse.. I won't sit on it 😄

I was very comfortable on the night apart from the feet situation so I have to suss that out. I've been steering clear of reviews recently, I want to just get out and use the gear I have. Great video. Appreciate all the work that went into it. Also great review on the X-Mid 1 solid. I'm debating getting that or a Tarptent Stratospire or Dipole. How are those short corner guy lines when it comes to working around rocks? Supposedly they can't extend as it messes up the geometry. Still think it's roomy inside? Looks like you were right up against the inner, particularly at the ends. Hard to compare the inside volume on these tents from just online viewing, but this "real use" video is the most useful.
Thanks for recording all the dripping from the inner. Double wall is better than single but obviously has it's limits.
The corner lines are quite short. I was going to lengthen them but I haven't had much of an issue with them so far. You could extend them without messing up the geometry , I wouldn't worry about that.
The inner space is really nice, especially considering this is a one man tent. You have to remember that I'm filming myself talking to a camera 😄 I need to be as far away from the camera as I can to get a good shot so that might have given you the impression that I was cramped.
If I wasn't recording I wouldn't have needed to be so far back. It's a nice tent, my biggest gripe is the angle of the inner. It makes lining up a narrow flat piece of ground difficult.

Backpacking in the dark like that made me think of American Werewolf in London and the folks at the Inn warning them to steer clear of the moors.

I have a UGQ -6c Bandit quilt. It's class, but the import charges from the US would make you sick.
It only weighs about 900g, which is why I went for a quilt. I'd never go back to a sleeping bag.

I love seeing the difference in what makes a "cold" camping trip for others. In Canada we can regularly get down to -20 to -30 on the colder days, and "mild" is above -15 C. I went out at -7 last week and it was really nice compared to the colder weather so I got a chuckle out of it being the colder temps for you.
Looks like it was a lovely trip though. Going out when the weather is meh can still be a great time, no matter what your meh is

I follow a few people over in Canada, such a beautiful place to live. You are extremely fortunate, I would only love to go out there and explore it.
I have heard a lot of people say that because of the wet climate here, the temperature feels colder. So a wet -10 over here would feel like a dry -20 over your way. That's just what I've heard on other channels from people who hike in the US and Canada and then go to the likes of Scotland.
Either way you acclimatise to the conditions after a while and require less layers etc. It's great to be out in bad weather when you have the right gear to keep your warm and dry. @@RamblingOn my dad always told me you lose a lot of heat through your feet and head, so I bring a good set of ski socks ($50+) a hat for my head, and layer the rest of my body. Not sure how accurate it is too but going pee before bed helps too I find. Not sure if they sell insulated winter boot where you're at but I have winter boots shoes that when paired will good socks will keep my feet warm down to -20, and I usually change socks when I get to camp and take off the sweaty ones.
Weather helps too, rainy -7 vs sunny -7 makes a difference like in summer too.
I will agree in the cold with you, I lived in thunder Bay Canada and Ottawa. Tbay is dry, Ottawa is wet, -40 in Tbay feels like -20 in Ottawa. Dry cold is much less harsh because the wind & air doesn't't steel all your heat away.
If you're not used to really low temps, I can imagine a cold wet -7 being not the best.
@@granthw4993 Ski socks!!! Why didn't I think of that. I'll look and see if I can get a pair, I don't think I would need the boots. The only times my feet get very cold are sitting outside the tent.
I have a few tips now to try out so I'll give those a whirl. The feet were my only real issue on the night.
I have a good Dutch army wool hat that's double layered and if I need it I can use a merino wool tube scarf as a makeshift hat liner, which works incredibly well to be fair.

@@RamblingOn glad to help, good rule of thumb for the socks too is the more expensive ones will be better performance. I only have 1 pair of them for the really cold days but they last if you take care of them and are really good for warmth.
Down booties might also be an option, you can find some cheap ones on AliExpress if you're not concerned about how they source the down.
@Grant Hw I had down booties on the night but found that they didn't do much.
I always look for the RDS certifications. I wouldn't buy without that.
I like the ski socks, I'm looking them up now. There's even silk liner socks 🤔

Great vid man, was in that neck of the woods myself at the weekend. Were you up on Corrigasleggaun? Next time you do porridge try bringing cinnamon, vanilla extract, honey, and my secret ingredient, a handful of raisins soaked in whiskey the night before. You’d run up the Lug in the nip after it!

@@RamblingOn I don't know if it would make a difference, but I always use plain oats for porridge.( incredibly cheap compared with the fancy ready made options)👍 Boil more water than you need for just your tea, then the water straight on it and stirred in well, then left for a couple of minutes. Porridge rehydrating while tea brewing. Winner! I would think that mixing up some Marvel (tm) would give you that creaminess and the dried fruit sounds a top idea. Loving the channel and great to see you enjoying yourself so much !

@@RamblingOn So it DOES work outdoors! 😁I actually 'discovered' this from not wanting to microwave me porridge in the morning because it kept exploding (the porridge, not the microwave)🤡While I'm all for a bit of breakfast time excitement, was wasting a fair bit of oats and it doesn't scrub off easily. I reasoned that since I had boiling water in the kettle, it would likely be less dangerous and messy to use that, instead..Take care and keep on keeping on 👍

This camp was a pretty windy one and I didn't feel any wind or drafts at all once the inner door was closed up. The mesh section on the door is quite high so you should have no issues with drafts especially when you are lying down

To be honest I wouldn't recommend them at all. They did pretty much nothing to keep my feet warm, I might use them to store batteries in or something 😄
There are Montane Prism booties that look class. They have primaloft Gold insulation and a pertex ripstop fabric. The look like a proper job so could be worth checking out. I will be getting some for next winter

Now then young fella. I'm maybe looking at getting a Durston xmid 1 solid or a 2 man version. Just wondered if you would recommend the 1man version? Was there enough headroom to sit up comfortably comfortably in the inner part. Or could you fo with abit more headroom? Was there enough room inside to be comfortable without being cramped? How did it stand up to strong winds and rain?
I m looking to do the Cape Wrath trail next year and need a lightweight tent that will be spacious enough to be comfy for 3 weeks backpacking. Would you recommend or go to a 2man version for the extra room? Let me know. Thanks!!
The X-Mid 1 offers plenty of space for me inside. I’m 187 cm tall, and I’ve got plenty of headroom, even enough to use my Crazy Creek chair comfortably. If I appear a bit cramped at the end of the tent in some shots, keep in mind that it’s because I need to position myself far from the camera to get everything in the frame. The tent has two large vestibules, so if you store your bag and boots on one side and use the other side for entry and your stove, you’ll have more than enough room.
I haven’t experienced any issues in the wind, and up close, you can really appreciate the quality of the stitching and materials. My only real issue is with the magnet in the door-it doesn’t stay secure if you like to keep the side guyed out at the base, as the magnet isn’t strong enough to hold against the tension. I’ve solved this by adding a bit of bungee and a carabiner.

@siraidanofmayo7678 I don't know of any for sale at the moment. I've seen one or two on.the second hand markets but you can't buy them new in Ireland unless you order from the US as far as I know. That's how I got mine. I won't be selling mine, it would be very hard to let go of.

Hi Jason I’m after a lightweight tent for winter. I’ve already got a 4 season Nortent Vern 1 with some upgraded dac poles but want something that’s lightweight as I’m having to take out heavier winter gear. I’ve a Lanshan 2 Pro for summer. Would you trust the XMid over winter with the solid inner or will you be moving back to something else yourself please? Have you tried the XMid 2 at all? Also do you have a link I could use for the gloves you’re wearing on this video as I have been looking for something that’s easily converted from being open to giving some good insulation. I'm spoilt for choice at the moment. I've far too many options when it comes to tents but the Xmid would work well for those long winter nights. Mine is the one person and there's enough room inside and enough headroom for me to be comfortable for the longer nights. You could use a tent like the Xmid for those nights where the weather doesn't look too menacing and have the Nortent for when it looks like the weather might really kick off.
I've had the Xmid out in some pretty poor conditions and I will be using it in the winter months. I'd have no worries really, again if the weather was really looking bad a sensible option is the heavier tent. If it's very cold I'd suggest pitching it so that the fly is as close to the ground as possible to reduce the cold draught.
So long story short I'd be happy to use the Xmid for 90% of my camps but I'd keep a tent like the Nortent for those other camps where the bulk pays off.
The gloves are from Valleret, the Markhof Pro I think but Decathlon have gloves that I much prefer. I would recommend using them with a glove liner for added warmth.

The liners can develop holes in the finger tips, as they are merino wool they are not very durable but they are really warm so I think they're worth it.

It's pretty well tolerated here to be fair. If you go to some of the national parks they have policies and guidelines on it for each park that you can find online.
I've never had any issues. I wish it was like Scotland though

🤣 I wouldn't envy them being out in a bivvy in that weather. I did hear distant consistent gunfire but the wind was so bad I couldn't pick it up on camera so they must have been firing that night. Mad stuff
How much of tolerating -7 is down to that Neo air grey matt thingy,
Having a good R rated mat is really important but there are more affordable alternatives. You can use mats with a lesser R rating and increase that R rating by adding in an additional closed cell foam or foil pads. It just means carrying more bulk and weight. You also need to pair the mat with a sleeping bag or quilt that will be warm enough for the conditions.
@@RamblingOn Yeah mate, True. big thing to get off the ground, maybe, the alpkit nuno was ok, but I got the yellow thermorest and that is more comfortable, I dunno, 2 matts would'nt weight that much if foam, but they are bulky to carry, the alpkit nuno is quite good for £40 quid. thanks for that. to a degree, but not -7. I thinkl made mistake getting zpacks single tent, instead of duplex. hopefully be out walking sw coast path this summer

@@jketcham9004 if you have the thermarest Xlite then that is a really good mat. R value of 4.2 which is great for 3 seasons. Pair it with a foil pad which won't add much weight and it should be good going in to the winter. Try it out gradually and see how it goes.
Maybe you have the Zlite pads. They would be bulky to carry but work well to add some R value. There's a few ways to do it but a decent R rated sleep mat is worth the few bob. Its a case of buy once cry once. They are excellent, it's like having an electric blanket underneath you. It's the best way to describe it. Best of luck on your hike 🙌

@texmexia49 I think that the ones I have are not very good. I'm sure there's others out there that perform much better. I've my eye on a few bits to help me out like the montane booties, ski socks and those hand/feet warmers you mentioned.
I should have toasty toes in no time 😄
