I love this style of EDH videos. I enjoy watching EDH and the group talking and having fun but, I like this style of cutting out the back talk and covering what a player does on their turns. Sure it results in shorter videos but it's still enjoying enough while allowing me to focus on the board state and what's going on. AWESOME!
I pulled a tegrid out of a prerelease kit, went to the lab and built what I could with my humble collection, then placed 2nd in a 16 player commander tournament last weekend. Rankle was clutch all night, had great card draw with midnight reaps plus Lilly dreadhord general . I decided to order some cards to improve on the build, I absolutely love this deck.
Is Logan running the Magus of the Coffers/Umbral Mantle combo for infinite mana? He could sink that into Tergrid's Lantern to drain the table for the win
Love the channel! Would it be possible to show starting hands along with their respective commander on the same screen so we have a little more perspective on what commander has what starting hand?
@@WHITEKNIGHT95 just took a dive into the rules regarding pox-like effects and, you're right, the order or resolution does end with Tergird being sacrificed before the lands are sacrificed, so, she wouldn't be there to see it happening.
Not sure if this was already stated, but the Tegrid player doesn’t gain control of lands off of a death cloud. The lands are sacrificed after Tegrid is off the board.
That's why I don't like Tergrid as a commander and will just run mine in the 99 somewhere. You either get targeted by everyone and taken out early, or you win with something like this.
Tergrid cannot trigger on death cloud’s land sacrifice…she trigger for the rest, but not for the lands because she is already dead when they sac the lands
@@TheGirthiestSausage Some behind the scenes intel but Tegrid was best for him to build because he already had a majority of the cards for it anyways so in terms of being cost effective and such, it seemed best. But when we sit down and look at these new "commanders" we look at how we can play them to the best of the decks ability and seeing it play out physically was astonishing nonetheless.
@@SmoothBrainEDH Ethan never should have been able to start his combo because Tergrid was in play and Ethan was the active player. Then Ethan *should* get them back to hand when Death Cloud resolves. You did it the opposite of how it should work every time.
Justin failing to fetch for a white source seems to be the punt of the game here. Facing 3 on the board commanders, definitely shoulda made sure he was able to cast the 1 mana removal spell already in his hand.
Wow. I knew tegrid could do that, it's just the nature of the design. But maybe a lot more of these kaldheim commanders are all broken (tegrid just makes them seem less so to some extent even, luckily this balances out that people wont always want to play her because they won't get to play the game much as they'll just win so def cedh or they'll get super targeted to balance out maybe.) I knew like 5 were way way too good than what they should be otherwise with slower overtime design. Also while it might be cool for some of the commanders, there does need to be some cost. But at the same time I guess there wasn't a "cost" for athraxa, and the 4 colors could even be a way good advantage. Athraxa was an exception though whereas there were a lot of powerful powerful kaldheim commanders and they well exceed commander legends if I understand it correctly. So idk. But yugioh got super ruined for me after 7 years because of hyper exponential power creep. So just a cautionary tale. Koll is what I'm getting at. He seems like, with how ethan demonstrated him, that there are a lot of infinite or highly repeatable combos. I mean if there are a lot of enchantments and creatures that would work with similar value like skull clamp did then that will be a nice powerful commander. Really cool being able to reuse goblin matron, but wow.
Just to be a bit anal about it, but Koma doesn't tap down creatures or artifacts. He taps down permanents and removes their abilities, which admitedly makes him a bit better.
i dunno.. id prefer more out of the box commanders. This is a great channel, i'd only prefer less use of known powerful commanders like tergrid and koma. i even rather see a typical equipment deck than koll. but thats probably just me. (just my 2 cents)
if is CEDH everything goes. I hate 2 nasty decks and my pot hates me when i play it but i don't care, those card are not banned so just have fun with it!!
I'll never feel bad for playing a deck I love. If they see I'm playing Tergrid, knows what she does, sits down and plays, then bitches about my commander doing what it's supposed to do, then that sounds like a personal problem lol
@@jonathanherrera6005 OK. We play casual. If someone isn't having fun, the entire table feels it. Tergrid basically tells the table. No you cant have a boardstate at all, No you can't have a hand, and It's all mine. It's a pretty lame way to play. Winning by not letting anyone else play. Seems pretty CEDH dickery to me. but hey...you do you
Just so you're aware, this video is from over 2 years ago when Tergrid first released. We had next to no experience playing against Tergrid at this time and neither did anyone else
I appreciate them keeping this game with one player dead in the water on youtube, but also kind of understand why most channels don't release games like this. I wonder if they just play a bunch of games and post the best one, or if they're just rigged.
There is some footage we don't use for the channel (misplays, understand of cards etc) but in this case the game is authentic. When I saw my initial hands, I had 0 lands so once I was down to 5, I saw one land and 2 one Mana spells so I kept it hoping to get another land but with really no true luck. Just happens sometimes.
@@BlackCrownMinis well, it happens all the time playing the game. I remember reading a post somewhere about how the big channels just "choreograph" their games or at least fix their initial hands so that they have a good start. Not sure if it's true or not but I do wonder how they do it.
@@Mundane05 I haven't heard this personally but I won't rule it out. I know for us at SmoothBrainEDH, we value our content and ensure we bring authentic and fun games. I hate tergrid. Such a obnoxious card that only leads to the most obnoxious decks. She is a kill on site and burn to ashes commander for me. Overall good game.
He inserted himself in the stack. Just because you are comboing doesn't mean you get full stack priority and each skull clamp activation is added to the stack. Its not one big resolve

Now I understand why the price for Death Cloud jumped so significantly.
I run a death cloud, phyrexian obliterator, torment of Hailfire combo. This is how it ends up 50-60% of the time.
Im sorry but i dont think there was any organization on that last board state😂😂

Shouldn't Logan have gained Ethan's fabled passage at 3:50?
Keep up the smooth brains, love the channel!
Great catch!
Pretty sure tergrid doesn’t see the lands since the order of sacrifing. That’s what I read before at least
Good catch, we'll keep that in mind next time!
Yes she does
You would need enough creatures for tegrid to survive and see it all. Should of accounted for that, but still a great play

Justin didn't take damage from the marsh flats
Why do I have so many good stuff kaldahiem cards but I didn’t even buy a box just shows how much crazy shit they printed in that set
Ethan should've returned his equiped creatures
So can someone explain for me. If tergrid is being sacrificed the same time as other creatures her ability still triggers?
beautiful death cloud XD
I don't think if beautiful really ajust to that play
Justin shouldn’t have kept that hand obviously, and Kona locking down that Skullclamp should have happened IMMEDIATELY 😂
Great content 👌

Quick rules question: Do Ethan's creatures go to Logan? Or do they get returned to his hand? In which order do the triggers resolve?
