    While I’m sure he could’ve treated his band mates better, I can’t help but feel like he was the one that was ultimately treated the worst. At the end of the day, he was the entire reason the band had any success at all, the other band mates could’ve been replaced but you couldn’t replace John. Mardi Gras is living proof of this and a genius move by John in my opinion, it showed everyone that the rest of the band were the ones in the wrong

    • @fernfreeman1729
      @fernfreeman1729 Год назад +3

      You have to look at who was behind Fantasy Records in creating conflict inside CCR. The band was selling more than the Beatles, and certain powerful people in the music industry wanted it for themselves. Fantasy was used as a conduit. The aim was to divide and conquer by getting each band member a vote in order to isolate John Fogarty, who rightfully so, was the one who ruled over the band as he was writing all their music and getting the royalties. Jealousy is a powerful tool, and family is a huge conduit.

  • @pacificsongs
    @pacificsongs Год назад +20

    John Fogerty was Creedence - iconic voice, guitar style, visionary and songwriter. End of story. The other three could have been replaced anytime. They should remember that when they park their cars in their nice houses.

    • @PaneyeOfficial
      @PaneyeOfficial Год назад +2

      It’s interesting though that John didn’t really have much success with his solo stuff post CCR. It’s clear to me that they needed each other. Even Mardi Gras was a seriously inferior album after Tom left the band. The chemistry of the 4, with John as leader, was the magic mix

    • @therazband3007
      @therazband3007 Год назад +4

      @@PaneyeOfficial I understand what your saying, CCR had the magic and was the right band with the right songs and sounds at the right time. As far as John’s solo work, I will say that It’s hard to have success when you only release an album every ten years, however, in the USA, Centerfield sold over two million albums and had three singles, two of which were big hits. Blue Moon Swamp won the Grammy for album of the year and went Gold selling over 800,000 copies, The Live Premonition album sold over 600,000 copies, the Long Road Home sold over 900,000 copies . Even the The Eye of the Zombie sold over 500,000 copies. My favorite is the “Shep” album which was just called John Fogerty and features Rocking All Over the World and Almost Saturday Night which were Brilliant. However, bottom line, there was nothing like Creedence. BTW, he just filled up the Hollywood Bowl for a show, about 18,000 people. He’s an American Treasure,.

      @@therazband3007 I can see I need to do my homework. Thanks for this reply. I agree that John is absolutely incredible and was the key to CCR. What I meant to write was that John was able to achieve his greatest heights and greatest tunes with the other 3 is supporting roles. And I emphasis “supporting”. John is one of the best front men and song writers of all time, and for a time had the perfect combo of supporting musicians that helped to elevate him. But they never should have tried to assert their notion of democracy over John. It’s very clear that the band only worked with John firmly in charge.

    John made two mistakes.
    1. He was not a good businessman. He needed a savvy manager who would have protected the band monetarily.
    2. He was the talent behind the success. Proper management would not have allowed "Mardi gras" to happen.

    • @jackkelly6251
      @jackkelly6251 Год назад +3

      I agree with your first point, but I think Mardi Gras only happened so that John could show the world that it was truly his ideas, his songs, and his singing which led the band to all of it’s success. I don’t think anyone could listen to the band’s discography and not realise that is was John who made the group special, especially after listening to Mardi Gras

      You are dumb for posting such nonsense. CCR were together and the others all supported John for more than 10 years before they "made it'. When he couldn't get all his own way, even canning encores at concerts and throwing their money down the toilet in an offshore bank deal HE did with Zaentz, he moaned and cried like a sooky baby. And keeps it up till this day. The other guys supported John, HE didn't support them, and that is the fact of the matter.

    In John’s book he let them write songs and they realized they did not know how. His bandmates were always fighting against John. Their contract with their label was the worst contract in the history of music. The reason CCR had to stay together. Eventually John had to give up all his rights to CCR music so that they would not get money from his Chesterfield album and future work.

Tom took a dig at John in the song "The Secret" from 1981 inpart: "You don't understand but I can't forgive you and I hold a grudge for you
    You don't understand how I can be happy while you're locked into your tears".
