The first time I heard this piece was by a band in the army, it was for a soldier that died suddenly. I will never forget the impression it made on all of us present I'm 78 yrs old.

Każda nuta tego wykonania rozdziera serce... Fizycznie czuć rozpacz przepełniającą ludzi żegnających swoich bliskich. Nikt tak ja Chopin nie potrafił oddać tych emocji. Wykonanie Orkiestry Wojska Polskiego jest niesamowite, jakby nie z tego świata....

Jeden z najpiękniejszych utworów muzyki klasycznej jakiej słuchałem. Ma się wrażenie że ten kto umarł był legendarnym bohaterem. Czuć w tym moc której się nie da opisać.

It is a funeral march. But so achingly emotional that it will live forever.
I'm sorry, but Stokowski plays this as a dance, a waltz. it does not invoke the somber mood one would expect at a funeral, it does not play homage to the dead hero. The orchestration by this Polish Military Band is the best I've ever heard, but that's my opinion only.
When His Apostolic Imperial and Royal Majesty the Sovereign Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria, Apostolic King of Hungary, Bohemia, Croatia, Grand Duke of Cracow, passed away during WW1, on November the 20th 1916, this march from Frédéric Francois Chopin was played as a tribute to the Kaiser und König by the Polish hussards, which were part of the Imperial Guard in Vienna, most of the officers belonged to the Polish nobility, amongst them Princes Leo Radziwill, Konstantin Czartorysky and others.

Absolutely amazing composition. I don't speak Polish, but as far as I can recognize the picture, this must be Marshal Józef Piłsudski. If it really is, the divine providence has spared him from seeing his beloved country occupied for a second time. He died five years earlier (1935).
If he was not assassinated, he would have seen us ally with Germany to defeat the bolshevik scum. If only it were so, the freedom of man preserved and peace restored. Oh how the injustices berate us so.

One of my favourite pieces. Exudes the grim reality of the finality of death. We die. We rot. Our loved ones lose us forever. There is nothing out there. It's wonderfully depressing.

Przepiękne wykonanie w tej wersji. Ostatnio słyszałem na żywo właśnie w wykonaniu orkiestry Wojska Polskiego... emocje są nie do opisania, ciarki i łezka w oku.

Kawałek życia grałem na pogrzebach z orkiestrą
Obojętne czy był to pierwszy czy 50 raz, 2:56 było najbardziej wzruszające. Po ciężkim temacie przewodnim, wejście czegoś bardziej lekkiego i dającego nadzieję.
Wszyscy święci z Tobą Panem, aż na wieki wieków, Amen.
Marszałku ! Najwybitniejszy z Polskich wodzów ! dlaczegóż po dziś dzień nie ma twego następcy ? Dlaczegóż Polska musi znosić te ciągłe poniżanie. Dlaczego mój wodzu !

Wtedy Bóg Honor Ojczyzna to były słowa święte, od małego wpajano miłość do Boga i Ojczyzny. Kiedyś prawdziwego patryjote poznać można było po tym że był dumny z tego że jest Polakiem. Teraz praktycznie nikt nie umie powiedzieć że jest Polakiem z nad Wisły!!!!!

Dupa Jaś! Miłujących ojczyznę dziadków na koniach nigdy w tym kraju nie brakowało! Brakowało (do dziś) tego brutalnego (do bólu) poczucia rzeczywistości i realizmu politycznego i tu był cały geniusz "dziadka"!

I find this to be such a moving and incredible piece of music. The strong and dark sounds of each instrument adds so much more emotion with each note. All around beautiful and powerful, setting a very worthy scene for honoring the dead.

The flag draped coffin pulled by horses with this music occasional playing interspersed with only drum beats. The country was silent as we watched. Sometimes only the sound of the horses hooves on the pavement as they travelled to Arlington.
When I hear this music, that is what I remember.
Yes indeed. For me it invokes another state funeral, the following year, of Sir Winston Churchill.

The death of the Marshal was the death of a Great Man, decades ahead of his time, perhaps even a century or two. Very few even in our own time recognize the trials, challenges and dangers the future holds, but Pilsudski saw it all and tried to warn us and only now are people waking up and appreciate his vision. The Marshal left us a library of thought for the future if only we will read it. God Bless the 3rd Republic and Bless the memory of the 1st and 2nd. Amen

Why? This is Polish funeral march but does its national origine matter?. It is a masterful piece, played universally, equally expressing deep sorrow over the loss of great individuals and the little people dear to somebody.

At Pilsudski's funeral (the man in the picture) Chopin's Funeral March was played (Warsaw 1935)
What is more, Adolf Hitler himself attended to his funeral. Germany really wanted to have Poland as it's ally. History would look totally different if we move together against USSR: we would avoid occupation of Poland, Katyn massacre and there would be no repressions, which Polish nation suffered over 5 years under Nazis.

wonderfull! this is the best performances that I heard! it is not easy for a concert band, but this band is professional. congratulations! all the sounds are very fine balanced. (I dont understand why the Trio has been played faster). I guess that this is the best performance of this funeral march. thanks for sharing it ;)

Może i historia to kłam, ale jednak skutecznie nas podbudowuje (przynajmniej mnie). Co do oddawania życia za kraj; fakt, i tak ci co są na górze nas sprzedadzą, ale to czy będziemy za swoją ojczyznę walczyć, czy nie dotyczy wyłącznie naszego sumienia. Dla mnie Polska jest zaraz po Bogu najważniejszą wartością i mam nadzieję, że jeśli będzie taka potrzeba ja będę miał na tyle odwagi by za nią walczyć.

Polacy, przestańcie rozwodzić się nad Józefem Piłsudskim - zawsze będą poplecznicy i przeciwnicy. Ale niezaprzeczalnym faktem jest, że dwudziestolecie międzywojenne to ostatni piękny okres naszej historii. I jakkolwiek Dmowski w wielu względach przekonywał mnie bardziej, to jestem pewna, że Marszałkowi należy się cześć i wdzięczność całego Narodu.
Zgadzam się w całej rozciągłości. Marszałek nie był idealny (np. sprawa gen. Rozwadowskiego), ale nawet jego najbardziej zaciekli przeciwnicy nie mogą zarzucić mu, że jego działania były podyktowane prywatą.
Rozwadowski nie był święty. W maju 1926 rozkazał wybić do nogi cały pułk szwoleżerów oraz zabić marszałka i jego otoczenie. Wszystko bez sądu. Rozkaz przechwycono. Piłsudski mógł go zwyczajnie sprzątnąć jak i paru innych i to bez żadnych konsekwencji a przy pełnej aprobacie "ulicy". A jednak nie, nie zastanawia cię to?

Oczywiście że nie. Chciał Rzeczypospolitej w postaci federacji bo tylko tak można było przetrwać pomiędzy Rosją a Niemcami. Mali ludzie tego nie pojmowali.
Myślę to samo co ty, tylko Piłsudski jest mi bliższy niż Dmowski.
