Some manufacturers like Tama used a polymer bass drum hoop with the claws so to speak molded in. On the rockstar series from the late 90's well into the 2000's. Might still be a thing with the new mid-level imperialstar kits. I know they look a bit garish but, no need to lay out hole patterns and drill because the hoops would line up everytime.

Very capable bass drum sound to my ears, Mike! I seem to like the sound of wide open shallow bass drums and of course the portability. As a full time working drummer, I love watching your channel. I am now thinking about cutting down my 20” x 17” Spaun Bass drum (from the early 2000’s when deep bass drums were still a thing:-) into a 12” and having a 5” deep shell left might lead to a shallow build.

Traps makes a compact drum kit where the bass drum is essentially the drum head stretched over a hoop. There's maybe a few inches of shell, but that's it. One of the cool things you can do since the drum clearly has a defined pitch is tune it along with the bass or the key of the song you're using it on.

Those are great in looks and sound! I can see this being very practical when playing on a small or shallow stage. Regarding the screw eyes, have you considered inserting a rubber grommet so that tension rod doesn't rattle up against the screw eyes? The idea of creating a dummy kick for a logo drum head is brilliant. Thanks for the awesome video.

You might want to try that to control the tone. Also, an Evans EQ3 or 4 would sound killer on it. Cool drum though.
