As a former Hazardous Materials specialist for my Fire Department, I cannot emphasize the importance of caution when dealing with lead, even in a painted-on form. Thejunkman did it right. Regarding the lead paint. I always test, but so far I have never found a toy from this era (post war) to have any traces of lead paint. It has been my experience that most painted "things" do not contain lead paint and the industries (in the US) phased it out long before the Gov't stepped in and regulated it. As I understand it lead as an additive for paint was mainly used in industrial coatings and not typically found on things for domestic use, house paints used in the early 1900's might be different though. Even then I think most paint companies voluntarily eliminated it in the 1930/40s. "Things" from other countries that might be a different story though.
Yes, your restoration projects are old enough to be made in the United States. Even in recent times foreign-made toys with lead-based paint are rare, but do, unfortunately, exist. I worked for a retail chain a few years ago that sold pedal cars. We had to pull them off display because we received official notification that they were painted with lead-based paint. Another problem with removing lead-based paint is proper disposal of the residue. Continue to be cautious. A few moments of caution can prevent a bunch of grief later.
For a more precision fit you can put a piece of your tubing you used between the wheel and the axel bracket. Put a section between the inside axel bracket.
I think i would have used a smaller hammer for the dents and used the ballpein hammer held in a vice as my dolly, also a little soapy water on the body to allow a little bit of maneuver when applying those detailing stickers, you can squeeze the soapy water out after and remove any bubbles, the adhesive will work just fine as the water is removed, hope you don't mind the helpful tips, the truck looks really nice in its new paint :)

Great job on the restoration. I’m attempting my first restore but there is some pitting in the metal after I removed the rust. Do you have a technique to repair pitting?

In a future video I will address some ways to fix this kind of issue so subscribe and click the bell icon to enable notifications. Short answer is you can use a high build filler primer. It takes time and patience, but the results can be remarkable.
In my opinion they were meant to be played with, so I don't much care. And this restoration brings it up to near new condition and ready for play. It never was going to be a shelf sitter. However, I think restorations to bring up the value from whence they were if the condition is similar to what this one was when I started. However I also subscribe to "its only original once" in the case where the condition warrants just a clean up and maybe replacement of a missing part or two and its place is on a shelf. I think it is a personal choice. This truck has more sentimental value than monetary value. TLDR: Do what you feel is right, not what people tell you is right.

That being said, the question I foresee on this particular piece is "Grandpa, what's a telephone truck?" But kids being kids, I know they'll find a way to enjoy it. Great video. Liked and subbed.
To a purist, they prefer "as is", but a toy collector that prefers restored toys, they will pay a decent amount. It's all about how much you will let it go for and how much the buyer is willing to pay. It's not like you can find this at your local toy store.

I could probably restore just about anything with enough time, money and energy. I have done several cars in the past as well as my motorcycle restorations here on RUclips.
The original paint was not powder coat, it was a baked enamel lacquer type paint. However you can restore yours in they way you like. I like this and the goal was to put it back into service for a 3rd generation of play.

I find a hidden spot that is untouched then get it as close as I can. This one I took some liberty's and brightened it up a shade or two.

Well my son will know what a Telephone is and why these trucks were a common sight in the American landscape.

that ugly paint job using spray on a toy is better to throw it away. IT'S BETTER TO PUT POWDERED PAINT BACK TO ITS REALLY ORIGINAL STATE
