I tune in every video for one reason - Vinny is underated in the community and deserves so much more recognition in his incredible ability to Sniff out a good deal !
When you did the brakes, you only unbolted the caliper bracket. You needed to remove the pads and clean the pad clips and remove, clean and lube the caliper guide/slide pin. That is what’s going to help the pads back off when you release the brakes.
I've rebuilt the caliper on old bikes that sat, and there was so much green goo inside the caliper. I don't think you need to buy any parts. Just let the fluid push the pistons out, and then clean real good (don't get brake clean on the seals). And, clean the pistons real good. Then, they work like new again (although the lines can get totally stuck up too). But, yeah, first step is cleaning pads, lubing wear spots, and clean and lube the slide/pin. But, I'd take them completely apart, and clean inside real good too.
Joe needs to take Vinnie when he goes to look at projects. He could could check them out. Put his paw over the spark plug hole kick it over. He can tell if it's has good compression.
I like how much of the fork stanchion is below the front axle on this bike. However Joe, the front brake hose is routed wrong at the bottom. It goes around the inside the fork tube to the caliper. Check some on line photos to see how it should look.
No offense to him, but IMO, he needs to slow down and look at the technicalities of everything the best he can, no matter how simple they may seem, until he knows everything he does is right. I have only seen a hand full of his vids, and this is the 2nd time he missed something simple, (chain under the guide was the 1st I saw). I actually find that kind of amazing. The guy digs right into transmissions and still misses the simple things. I guess I learned from the outside going in. :) Yea, before the upside down forks, 12" of fork travel would have that much slider tube under hang under the axle. Made riding rutted corners a bit tricky sometimes. The pros of the day seemed to have little problem though. :)
At around 13:44 of the video there's a shot of the master link (different link plate) without a clip. I would guess the clip wasn't there in the first place. Great presentation with your video's and the steps you take to diagnose and repair. You have your way with tool selection and what it takes for repair but it's your video's and you're making the big bucks with this process. Your'e doing something right with your following and views! Vinnie is a treasure and my Labradoodle goes nuts every time Vinnie is on the big screen. Well done Joe!
I'm an x racer from the late 70's... I'm looking to get back on the dirt and go vintage racing... I cannot find shit in my state affordable... You get the killer deals and that one there would work... I found your videos about five months ago... Good job with the videos and keep it up...
In 50+ years of dirt bikes, that's the 1st master link i've seen come off.Everyone says carry a spare, but I stopped years ago, because it never happens. Now we see why Vinny ran away.Smart doggy.
Yeah, I've seen one fall off when riding either. As long as it's installed correctly and you don't let the clip wear down to a sliver, they stay on. In this case, the clip was missing. 23:40 you can see it's missing, and again at 27:59
U know my nabors are complaining about my yz125 2003 cops told my dad there getting alot of call about my bike I love my bike im not getting rid of it to much fun it is load though when I smash gas
I live in alabama and bike parts are next to non I miss the 2 strokes especially my sudzuki 250 old 360 and 450 why I said sudzuki instead of suzuki Crack a few cans of good beer less pain riding 😂
Fenders, number plates, 3m backgrounds, rad shrouds, rm decals. Blue oem fork boots, pit replica blue seat cover..UFO plastics of Italy has you covered..
The chain, or worse the sprocket, could have really badly damaged your foot. Maybe wearing boots is a good idea especially for the first ride. That bike sounds so good !
"It's had lots of work done" but not running. Your patience and knowledge are able to leap those hurdles. 2Vinny is with me on this one. You need to rent a Uhaul and go to Baltimore for the 100+ pile of seized
Joe, I noticed the chain had some bad spots as you were going through the gears on the stand, then, as you were unloading it at the land I noticed you had not lubed the chain, and said out loud, I hope that chain doesn't break...man, you were very lucky that you, or the engine, were not hurt, glad you're okay, Rich in Sacramento
Vinnie! I heard construction going on in your last few vids. If it’s your driveway you had done, looks amazing. Love Vinny!!!! 🎉😊❤ watching from sunny Southern California. Can ride year round! Miracle with the chain incident dang.
Nice work bud. Ya I guess there was a lot of loose bolts and missing bolts as u said in beginning of video.. happens when you aren't sure what previous owner did.... most importantly I am very GLAD that you didn't get hurt!!
I know some of the older bikes power band is like an on off switch but your already in the power and high rpm when i could hear it. But just what i thought i could hear. All in all great deal for the bike and great video as always.
Great RUclips channel , you have great skills and a great dog however when purchasing a two stroke motocross bike I always take out the ignition cover to check for the play on the crank by hand 🤚, and I noticed that chain obviously need it lubricant , you seem to find great deals on bikes and I’m always looking forward to see how do you fix the bikes issues ! Fortunately this bike was a very good deal , I hope some day you restore one of the two strokes you have I wonder how would you approach a restoration project , thank for posting your videos
There's a good market for older mechanically sound beat up cosmetically bikes. Actually they are the most fun to ride and use because everything mechanical is rebuilt or new so it won't break down and leave you setting. It's not perfect so you can ride it hard without worrying about scratching or crashing it. You can use it for a backup or spare bike to loan family and friends to have something to ride at get togethers. My cousins and I grew up riding 2-stroke motocross dirt bikes in the 1970's and 1980's. When I go over to his house for family dinners and reunions he has a barn full of about 20 bikes like this. We all jump on one and go around the farm to rip them. Several of us are highly experienced riders and are very good at it. Some of my other cousins and their grand-kids and kids aren't. It's nice to put them on something that runs good, yet if they lay it down it's not a huge issue.
I had one of these back in the day. It had awesome low-end great mid-range and zero top-end power. This thing straight rips. Where mine used to sign off, this one starts to make even more power. I remember Eric Gore's name being highly respected back then. Now I see why.
Don’t be afraid to try and fix one of those Can-am ATV’s. I’ve seen many 800s go for $1000- $1800 that only need a carb clean and few other odds and ends.
Had a 1976 RM 125 I got from my Buddy and went through and restored it. That thing was really Pipey and would pull the front wheel without even trying. Saw a fully restored one go on Bring a Trailer this year for $8600!
That chain coming off is a warning... GEAR UP also Move the truck and trailer well.away from where you speed test! Not worth taking Chances. Especially when alone 👍👌
I paid a kid in the neighborhood 650 for a Jawa CZ 250 back in '71 that bike reminds me of it with the yellow. the expansion chamber. thats where it ends. wish i had that CZ
Very nice score my friend . I got a friend with new plastic's & complete sticker kit. Idk if they're repop's 🤔 & I could ask if he would sell. Don't know what they're worth to be honest ?. Sweet bike & what you got it for is crazy . Let me know I will ask. Glade you didnt hurt yourself with the chain ordeal 💯😮. Salute 2.V 😎👍
I love that bike !!! Sounds so amazing haven’t got to ride in 4 years 😞 can’t afford a bike work every day and still can’t afford one but one of these years I’ll have one 😂
JOE IT'S CHRISTMAAAAAAASSSSSSS AGAIN! By the way, got lucky too, got a broken 65 inch 2017 QLED TV Samsung für 100$ (only blue screen) but sound worked. There was only a cable loose 🤣
Got lucky on that bottom, I seen the chain links kinda kinked up, gotta put some "earl" on it, Thank you for everything you teach me and I've learned alot from you, long time subscriber,💪😎💯
Congratulations! For me, you and others inspired me to purchase an Adventure Bike, the one you all think is not, 2023 CB500x. Love it and I’m new at this, outside of ATVs. I laughed at your comment in a previous video about not being intimidated by those professionals on some videos and that most guys were middle aged graying beards and chubby lol. Me on the dot. The content I love is the camping, exploration from the riders POV and seeing other bikes go through the terrain. So keep blending those clips and enjoy the rides for us who don’t have cool places to ride. Far East cost here, so not much around without hours of travel. I know, sucks! Ha.
I have a yz85 just rebuilt bottom and top end, has compression and spark but just not getting gas, I’ve cleaned the carb about 10 times now and adjusted the float put in new jets checked the reeds, but it’s a knockoff chinese carb on it, think an oem carb would fix it? It always ran with the Chinese carb before
Me and alot of people have all probably been wondering if you filled the coolant I have been wiggin out the whole time saying out loud coolant coolant, damn it Joe hahaha nice score tho.
😊😊😊 Congratulations for you not so much us die hard fans that like to see your skills at work. Hopefully you can find a good repair one next so we can see the money disappear into repairs. Following as usual from the arm chair. 😊😊😊
Did you ever come across a 1986 yamaha tt 350 dualsport?well thats what i got,its a great trail bike, not so much motocross worthy, gotta rebuild one of those double carbs youve worked on before, with primary and secondary, where ones manually operated and the other vacuum,i think, love tur videos,i learn so much
great vid dude rm 125 was my first and only scrambler bike lovely to watch and brought back great memories i could smell that 2 stroke over here in ireland lol
Always take pads out and pump caliper pistons out a bit further then but red rubber grease in under the dust covers and revolve pistons with vice grips on very outer edge of piston then push back in with g clamp
Hi Put a washer on that front sprocket as it may have contributed to the chain coming off good stuff keep the vids coming man I always watch your stuff take care.
Never been a worry wart, but dogs do get into things, double checking wouldn't hurt so he can't get into any coolant/antifreeze ☠🐕, nonetheless another great video bro! 👍🏻
Vinnie knows best haha!! Good video joe. Same thing happened to me with the chain but I wasn’t so lucky and it cracked the case but I wasn’t going very fast
Had to leave before finishing watching the video, but will watch the rest when I'm able. There was a bolt that I'm sure you found on the floor by the left side of the bike. I saw it fall from the bracket that holds the end of the exhaust pipe right before the baffle.
Hey bro, congrats on the bike very nice couple small issues but you are good to go question I noticed that you do a lot of fixing, but I noticed that in the background you have a lot of bikes do you sell them? or do you just keep them? just curious keep up the videos.
When you say replace the chain, I hope you mean chain AND sprockets. Also, you'll need to remove both calipers, lube the slide pins, check the pad thickness, and flush the brake fluid. And as mentioned in the comments already, the front brake lower hose isn't routed properly, based on the brief video shots.
Good luck and massive respect 🙏....never been a fan....the suzzie, in 2 stroke, have massive problems.....had an x 7 ...year's ago, was constantly working and repairing it.... not good......switced to Honda ....no brainer.. still have an old school c r 250....basic maintenance, but never let me down 😊...
An untrained garage wonder acquaintance of mine bought a dilapidated Mustang and totally disassembled it. He threw every last fastener into a large bucket. All of them. He ended up with half a bucket of mixed, rusty, greasy unidentified fasteners. The car sat in the back yard in the weather and eventually was thrown away one piece at a time. He held on to the engine last saying, "I'm gonna rebuild it." to the very end. He never did.

Gotta love 2 strokes. You should of stopped ripping on it as soon as you noticed top mount insecure. Then you wouldn't of lost the chain. The engine alignment was the cause of the chain issue!
Because of you I know how to rebuild the top end of a two-stroke but I get confused when you start cracking the case in half and the gears and all that but I definitely can pull a piston hone a cylinder and put it back together with the right rings and everything because of you you truly are a Master Mechanic bro
I tune in every video for one reason - Vinny is underated in the community and deserves so much more recognition in his incredible ability to Sniff out a good deal !

Yeah I knew it, Vinnie went straight to the radiator! Vinnie is a certified motorcycle tech!!
Im sure he puts a Dogg6y treat on the bike LOL
He definitely knows how to Sniff out the Problem! 😎
I consider Vinnie official MOTO-PUP

I love seeing your videos about repairing these dirtbikes, atvs, and side by side. You inspired me to learn how to repair these vehicles
Ditto...
Between your off-loading and your kick-starting, I'm nominating you for a knee replacement by the time you turn 30. Love the channel...

Wow good eye, it was absolutely missing the clip from the beginning. Glad there were no consequences.
Need to put 10 on the number plate lol
I'm an x racer from the late 70's... I'm looking to get back on the dirt and go vintage racing... I cannot find shit in my state affordable... You get the killer deals and that one there would work... I found your videos about five months ago... Good job with the videos and keep it up...
Holy cow... You're amazing! Most interesting mechanic in the world. After hes worked on a bike, they actually go faster when the brakes are applied! 😅
This is my favorite channel. I feel way more confident working on bikes after watching all these videos

Had the RM250, battled to get through first 3gears without lifting the front tyre. Dad made me get rid of it because of the neighbours complaining.👍
U know my nabors are complaining about my yz125 2003 cops told my dad there getting alot of call about my bike I love my bike im not getting rid of it to much fun it is load though when I smash gas

I'll say it again. Love watching someone who knows their trade, Not a fake like a lot of other. I enjoy everyone and love watching Vinnie
If you go back to when you were shifting it through the gears in the garage I could see the front sprocket was doing something weird.
Fenders, number plates, 3m backgrounds, rad shrouds, rm decals. Blue oem fork boots, pit replica blue seat cover..UFO plastics of Italy has you covered..
Great buy, that bike runs out amazingly. Glad you dodged a bullet on the chain break.
Long live 2 strokes
Amen brother
I call them tork strokes.
I remember my first, brand new 1980 YZ 400
@bilzedek3774 put that on a t shirt I'll buy it
Damn right
Hahhahhahahhahaa😂😂😂😂😂
The chain, or worse the sprocket, could have really badly damaged your foot. Maybe wearing boots is a good idea especially for the first ride. That bike sounds so good !
I really learn a lot from you every video is very informative .lts great when you finally kick em to life.

lucky his dangling sneaker lace didnt get caught in that chain too lol
The loose engine mount added extra stress on that dry crappy chain.
The front brake line..
Joe .. for the love of God😂😳
Vinnie! I heard construction going on in your last few vids. If it’s your driveway you had done, looks amazing. Love Vinny!!!! 🎉😊❤ watching from sunny Southern California. Can ride year round! Miracle with the chain incident dang.
What a rare bike. Crusty as hell yet works mint.
This isn't as crusty as the yz125,that mx revival is building
when you rev it hard some bolts and nuts are droppping, i saw it
Im hooked on your channel. Its like Clue for motor heads hahaha! But seriously very informative content with some suspense.
Im surprised that dosn't happen more often , you hardly ever give any love to the chain and sprockets, sounds like its running great .
That chain looks like some links are semi frozen even before you started the bike the 1st time
Nice work bud. Ya I guess there was a lot of loose bolts and missing bolts as u said in beginning of video.. happens when you aren't sure what previous owner did.... most importantly I am very GLAD that you didn't get hurt!!
You have a lot of confidence to take on a Suzuki. I wouldn't expect a brand new Suzuki to start. Especially if 32 degrees or colder.
Oh yeah the factory goes through a lot of effort to make sure their bikes won't start
I know some of the older bikes power band is like an on off switch but your already in the power and high rpm when i could hear it. But just what i thought i could hear. All in all great deal for the bike and great video as always.
Love the 2 stroke videos, getting a deal and being able to fix it with out the whole “just needs a carb clean (aka this motor is blown) is nice!
you beat him down it was 1000 but good on you for getting it and fixing it dose sound nice through head phones take care all stay safe xx from London
I'd like to see a full restoration on this bike, either new plastics or clean up the old one but would definitely like to see it in its former glory
30 seconds fired up then straight to some full throttle ripping hell yeah!!!
You need to start jetwashing these bikes before you mess with them mate
Nope
it does make it a lil easier
What a SCORE on that bike Joe, AMAZING!!
Love seeing Vinnie in your videos. Thanks for the entertainment.
i wonder hows your little brother is doing. back when i was first getting into dirtbikes and quads i used to watch all you videos back in the day lol
I had one of these back in the day. It had awesome low-end great mid-range and zero top-end power. This thing straight rips. Where mine used to sign off, this one starts to make even more power. I remember Eric Gore's name being highly respected back then. Now I see why.
Very knowledgeable.. I like watching your videos. Get to learn a lot from you appreciate it brother.
That 89 rm is crying out to put back to original.....blue frame, blue seat, restore the plastics and a set of 89 decals=even cooler machine😀
Not enough bolt/security checking on the bike and l'm shouting "No coolant!" Let's hope this is a learning chance like the KX85 and not ignored.
Don’t be afraid to try and fix one of those Can-am ATV’s. I’ve seen many 800s go for $1000- $1800 that only need a carb clean and few other odds and ends.
That’s what they all say “needs a carb clean”
What a coincidence that you and the previous owner rode it for only 10 minutes! 😅
This bike f'n' rips, Joe! You scored a great deal. Thanks man!
I love trying to figure out what’s wrong with the bike before you. It’s like a game I play😂 and I learn a lot from you
Love these old 2 strokes!
You should consider a bike lift table.
Makes this work so much easier!
Had a 1976 RM 125 I got from my Buddy and went through and restored it. That thing was really Pipey and would pull the front wheel without even trying. Saw a fully restored one go on Bring a Trailer this year for $8600!
Got that low gutteral Suzuki 2 stroke roar. Nice... great bike.
That chain coming off is a warning... GEAR UP also Move the truck and trailer well.away from where you speed test!
Not worth taking Chances.
Especially when alone 👍👌
Stop clutching and Speed shift! When the bike is cold, speed shift earlier and keep the revs down a little till it warms. Thank you.
Ya doesn't have a clue.
So awesome. Gonna need more room asap!!!! Stacking them up!!!!!!
yep, its ready to be hooked to the mower. good work, great find
Got to love that Inspector Vinnie Bobarino !!
Nice video. When you started for first time a bolt fell in video in front of rear tire. Not sure where from check and you will see it too. Cool.😮
Can’t beat an old 2 stroke 👌🏻
get a case guard on there too fab one up i would check needle slot too, doesn`t sound right. and work with air screw
Love your videos, just one question, is there a reason you don't pressure wash your projects before working on them?
Probably because it may remove any evidence of defects, leaks, shorting out etc.
Vinny loved it right from the get go!!!!
Where do you find the vin year chart on that web site the part shed @ 6:02, can't find it
I have a yz85 just rebuilt bottom and top end, has compression and spark but just not getting gas, I’ve cleaned the carb about 10 times now and adjusted the float put in new jets checked the reeds, but it’s a knockoff chinese carb on it, think an oem carb would fix it? It always ran with the Chinese carb before
fined a Maico 250 440 or a 490 would love to see you sort out one of those
Me and alot of people have all probably been wondering if you filled the coolant I have been wiggin out the whole time saying out loud coolant coolant, damn it Joe hahaha nice score tho.
No, no one else thought that… just you

Great videos mate I moved upto brand new 250 and these videos helped me , feel confident working on it
How much running in time did you give it seemed like you just got on it and give it death till chain come off ?
I would love to see the final update and real ride on this bike. It deserves it.😊
great vid dude rm 125 was my first and only scrambler bike lovely to watch and brought back great memories i could smell that 2 stroke over here in ireland lol
Those notes, "StoraEnso", this is for sure connected to Sweden by the previous owner. It is a small world.. Greetings from Sweden😊
Always take pads out and pump caliper pistons out a bit further then but red rubber grease in under the dust covers and revolve pistons with vice grips on very outer edge of piston then push back in with g clamp
Vinnie seal of approval! 🐶🐶🐶
I love the early two strokes Suzuki is definitely not my favorite but if I was going to own one that would be the one
Love the dog!! Lol. So, you buy,fix resell? Nice gig.
Hi Put a washer on that front sprocket as it may have contributed to the chain coming off good stuff keep the vids coming man I always watch your stuff take care.

Vinnie knows best haha!! Good video joe. Same thing happened to me with the chain but I wasn’t so lucky and it cracked the case but I wasn’t going very fast
Ngl most underrated channel
I love your eagerness to get it running, but check everything before cranking it up. Don’t wish to see you get hurt .
Very cool!!!
Love the channel happy holidays

When you say replace the chain, I hope you mean chain AND sprockets. Also, you'll need to remove both calipers, lube the slide pins, check the pad thickness, and flush the brake fluid. And as mentioned in the comments already, the front brake lower hose isn't routed properly, based on the brief video shots.
Great video as always love the dirt bike content an quad keep it coming
I wish I could find a bike like this for $700! Good job joe
He never did.
first step is always just get her a plate and fall in love. theeeeeeeeen you throw every fastener in a bucket 😂
So, he was an idiot.
2 strokes are the God machines exspecially these older years like this.
There's a good market for older mechanically sound cosmetically beat up bikes.
