This is ridiculous how simple but effective. Looks dead on. You have any future plans to do anything like faux marble? I have some little 3d printed busts i want to try and do
Posted a video showcasing my attempt at this. All I can say is DAMN!! This is so much cheaper/easier/better looking than wood filament and varnish. Also, if you mess up, you can wipe the part down with isopropyl alcohol and start over (which I did about 3 times). Thanks man!
Do you reckon a minimal dry brushing with the alcohol could help pick out little bits of the base colour? This such an effective technique, I was stunned at the second one!
THIS. Is so cool!! I am going to try this out ASAP on my next prop build. The wife was even blown away by this. So very cool, sir, very cool. Thanks for sharing this, and all your work with us.
Saved this vid ages ago and just gave it a try on a Power5 blaster build. I used a slightly darker paint and it came out a beautiful dark cherry/mahogany. So stoked with the result, thank you for sharing sir! I’ll definitely be using this technique a lot on future builds.
What paints did you use? I'm after a darker wood finish as well for some Star Wars blaster grips, would love to know what you used and to see your results!
Been doing this same method for a long time with regular stains. Only part that sucks about those is the fumes, and also they sometimes dry too fast and if you don't get the pattern just right you need to sand down and start over. An all acrylic solution is great for indoor winter months. You can mix up any base color, air brush it on, satin acrylic varnish, then do something like the inks you're using. I've also seen some people use watered down airbrush paint, but the translucent nature of stain/ink works way better. It's fun to mix different stains with different base colors to get a range of woods.
Thank you so much for this video. I was able to make some steam punk guns with this technique. Though I used acrylic paint instead of the markers and was able to get a similar effect like yours.
My friend, I consider myself an experienced miniature painter, I know many many methods and techniques, and has been a a long time since Ive seem such a cool and creative method with such a amazing result. To be fair alcohol inks are a bit exotic for the hobby and Ive seem it used a few times. You had my like and my subscribe, sir, well deserved!
It’s wild how much that looks so much like wood. I’m working on printing a model of a Walther PPK and I’m using real walnut PLA for the grips, and this is the technique I’m going to use to give it wood grain right after sanding it. Thanks so much.
Wow, that's a great texturing tip. Very nice of you to mention the names of the Copic Inks you use to allow us to reproduce the effect. I'd love to see if the colors are as vibrant as here after 2-3 coats of varnish (Alclad II ? Liquitex high gloss varnish ?). (That TraumaTeam helmet on the wall made me subscribe :)
This is such an awesome video, you absolutely knocked it out of the park with this!!! I am definitely going to be trying this on my Mando blaster grips, thank you so much for the awesome content!!
I would just go with a rust-oleum clear coat. Thay way you can spray it on and also get it at the same time as the caramel base coat. I prefer satin but you could put a gloss if you want something with a shine.
I need to find a wy of achieving the same kind of effect on white printed parts with a smooth surface (ironing enabled), so that it recreated the visual experience of piano key caps... ;)
Looks incredible! I've never painted anything but hve a bunch of experience 3D printing. Any suggestions on how/where to learn how to do the steps before (priming) and after this (clear coat?). Perhaps links to videos, blogs or website? Thanks!
Its all trial and error. The more you work it the more familiar you become with the process. I do have a video that goes over my process of post processing 3d prints. ruclips.net/video/DY80iO1bYwY/видео.html
Thank you so much! I’ve been trying to find good way to make some parts of my prints look like wood. I’ve done few gun grips with the wood infused filament, sanding, and staining (which looked great), but I have some I can’t do that with. Currently working on leviathan axe from god of war, and parts are wood and metal pieces, and have the metal looking axe part great, but I needed good way to make the wood handle look good. Going to take a while with lot bigger piece but I think this is what I’m going to try!
Awesome Video man. Do you have any tips on applying similar techniques to surfaces that aren't flat? Say, you wanted to paint a print to look like a wooden sculture. Thanks!
absolutely one of the most important things i’ve seen
I've seen you do it and I still cannot believe it's not wood. Amazing.
I cannot get over how good this looks! Definitely something I'll be using on future builds...👀
Thank you

There is 3D printed marble you can get
Omg man! That is fantastic!
Thank you bro!
Who need wood fill when you can do that? Awesome job man the results are great 😬
Thanks bro!

Wow, that was way simpler than I expected! Absolutely inspiring!
Thank you so much!

Always! Enjoy the technique and have fun making!!!
That my friend is INSANE. Thank you so much for sharing, definitely going to try that some time soon!
I’ve been searching and watching a million of these videos and yours is hands down the best. That looks like burl wood. Amazing!

Aw man. Your technique is absolutely astonishing. Gonna try it myself. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Really convincing result from such a quick process. keep the videos coming!
Really cool process. Im going to attach a 60 grit sand paper on to a paint stir stick and go deep for the grain and test this effect too. Thanks again
Brilliant technique that anyone can do. Great work!
I tried this technique, works great

You sir are not human!🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
That’s is NEXT LEVEL!!!
Thank you lol!
Ive done this with 2 dollar regular paint tubes, black n brown, just brushed the grain on in brown, drybrushed black paint over until satisfied.
I’m working on an NCR Service Rifle prop, this is a lifesaver
Can't wait to use this technique in future builds!
Working on gift idea with Wood AND 3D printing but your solution is really interesting and possible even at my level, love this, instant like 👍.

Looking majestic! thanks for sharing this great tut!

Looks great! Totally passes as real wood. Thanks for the walkthrough, Darryl!
Nicely done!
Brilliant stuff, such a great technique
Stunning work! This will help me with some props I have.

@MacMan how did it turn out looking?
@@cobensalazar5492 Super good! People are constantly fooled into thinking its real wood.
You got a new subscriber with this absolutely alchemy
Thank you
Awesome!!! But I did not find these pen in France ... Go look for an equivalent.
But great job !!!
Any alcohol inks will work! These are just my favorite because of the applicator.
Great job! I used to try something similar with Gundam markers, but it was nowhere near this good - I am definitely going to try this.
I bet this will work on my handgaun grips just need to apply a matte clear coat
This looks legit!!!Love it!
Wow!!! Could you do a black wood video or post a good color combo?
I might revisit thos
That is gorgeous, im definitely using this. you earned a sub sir
Appreciate it
Wow, that's a great texturing tip.
I typically use Alclad Klear Koat or Aqua Gloss.
Thank you! Better pics of it are on my Twitter and IG @off__earth
Duuuude! you made my day! Great vid man!
This is such an awesome video, you absolutely knocked it out of the park with this!!! I am definitely going to be trying this on my Mando blaster grips, thank you so much for the awesome content!!
Thanks for showing this off!
AWESOME! It gives 3D printing a whole lot more utility. How long did it take to stain that piece for reference?
Nice job sir!!
Fantastic! I can’t wait to try this. What material is your original print? It’s so smooth!
This was a resin print. I used Sirayatech Blu resin.
Glad I found this, exactly what I needed
Brilliant! Thanks for sharing!
Well done
That is just incredible!
This is awesome. Very impressive. Any suggestions on sealing it to add protection? Thank you.
I would just go with a rust-oleum clear coat. Thay way you can spray it on and also get it at the same time as the caramel base coat. I prefer satin but you could put a gloss if you want something with a shine.
awesome trick
Amazing
theres rubber wood grain effect tools you can buy using that in conjunction with your technique would be awsum
Really?! I’ll have to see what I can dig up! Thanks.
Instant subscribe. Wish I saw this before. It will be useful for my tommygun prop!
Thanks for the sub!

1:57 my man 😎
Dude, this is amazing! Subscription for you, good sir.
that's brilliant
Good stuff man
This is awesome! Think it would still work just as good if I printed in that base color instead of spray painting it?
I would think so.
Hi, absolutely awesome tutorial. Did you try to use some clear coat on it?
Yes I did. Montana Varnish
Have you come across any other color combos for other wood looks? Or do you have any recomendations for how to pick color mixtures?
Looks incredible!

Your amazing man, thank you. Ingenious
Amazing!
Damn thats sick!
Could use that to rebuild a Lewis gun stock :D Thanks ;) Just need to check out which type of alcohol inks we have over here in Europe...
Doesn’t have to be Copic, any will do.
What varnish or finish do you use to protect it after you finish?
Alclad Klear Koat Gloss or Aqua Gloss. Also Krylon Kamar Varnish works well.
Awesome Video man. Do you have any tips on applying similar techniques to surfaces that aren't flat? Say, you wanted to paint a print to look like a wooden sculture. Thanks!
Same technique would apply.
