I first saw him at the Cardiff singer of the world competition when he beat my fellow countryman Bryn Terfel into second place and deservedly so. Very sad to lose such a great talent so early.

His hair inexplicably turning white was like a sign of special grace, signalling us to take notice. We are blessed to have had him, and should look at the whole gift of his being as an example.
The facial expressions, body language, and singing of Dmitri's Il Balen...are so perfect. This aria rends my heart every time I watch this video, most especially the anguished look he gives at the end of it! Makes me say, "For Heaven's sake, will someone (Leonora 😊) LOVE this man?

I soooo agree! If you really examine the story, the Count is love-starved. If he had been truly loved by Leonora (body and soul), all the vengeful anger would have taken a back seat if not disappeared completely. A man dressed like that on my balcony declaring his love for me? I'm all in!😂😅😅😅
