For those looking for a visceral driving experience, the Campagna V13R and T-Rex are both incredibly unique takes on a sporty automobile. A single rear wheel drives the vehicle, without traction aides getting in the way of your pleasure. The V13R features a 1.2L Harley Davidson engine, while the T-Rex spins the rear tire with a BMW sourced 1.6L inline six-cylinder producing 160 horsepower. Both vehicles weigh in around 1,150 pounds.

NEW VIDEO EVERY WEDNESDAY! Авто/Мото
I really enjoyed my time with the Trex. Would have loved another hour of cruising.
+HumbleMechanic T-rex was good old fashioned dinosaur fun. Would drive again!
Engineering Explained lol
Call me old fashioned but I'd rather have a 4 wheel Ariel Atom with the Honda 4 cyl
Random Gamer Ariel Nomad for me. That thing looks like a beast! :D
Atom's V8 or LS7 swapped (just 50ish pounds heavier than the stock honda motor) Ariel Nomad with an extra set of wheels that wrapped in MT street ss tires for some mad street pulls. Now that would be my perfect toy :D
Don't really know what you mean by "old fashioned", T rexs have been around since the early 2000's.
BlueHokage and 4 wheel cars have been around since the 1800s, I was just giving n alternative to these light weight track toys that is cheaper and faster in the corners where it matters
Never heard of those. I think I'm with you, though. That looks awesome.
Did Jason just do a One Take? Mind blown
Yeah at first I didn't click in the video because I thought it was the One Take I'd seen already, then I read twice and it said Engineering Explained hahahaha
Nicely done Jason! These things are cool but I agree that the price is the biggest challenge with these.
Did I just see you in the trailer for drivetribe? Can't wait!
If you want the thrills for that kind of money, why not go with caterham or ariel atom
Campagna is a Montreal based company (Boucherville actually). As far as I'm aware, Catherhams and Ariels aren't readily available here.
I'm so excited! I just bought one of these(t rex) it's going to be my new winter driver since my truck broke down
They are funky things. Great review.
Hi, great videos with easy to understand points. could you please do a video explaining how the modern auto stop/start works, the pro and cons and which part it wears out.
thanks!
The main challenge of a delta 3wheeler doing high speed turning is finding a substitute for camber thrust. A motorcycle leans the rear wheel for camber thrust, AWS does the same without the lean. The rear wheel steers slightly (at most 1.7 degree) in the same direction as the front wheels. A typical design for a scooter front fork (proven for decades to keep the tire in contact with the road) usually goes on the front except in the case of a delta configuration with AWS, it goes on the rear.
I was just at the progressive motorcycle show in long beach and they had these weird three wheelers they looked amazing I think they were made by a company called vanderhall or something. What stood out is they were front wheel drive with a really clever suspension setup. Not manual which sucked but still worth checking out. Paint scheme reminded me of older Porches.
T-Rex is a like a go-kart for the streets, a total blast. But the cost entry is high. When T-Rex was 35k, it was a killer deal. Saw one drive AROUND a Lamborghini on an off-ramp
Would love a review of a Caterham if you ever get a chance to get your hands on one!
Before I moved from California, I was seeing a lot of those Polaris Slingshot things running about! I think they run about half the cost of these two, and are probably just as much fun. :D
Yes, small scale production does add terrifically to the over all cost of every thing mostly due to the labor costs (US and foreign) all up and down the supply chain for the components perhaps.....
@0:58 "mmmm I love the taste of road debris in the morning"
but for that price i would buy A Nissan Skyline R33, Mazda RX7, and Toyota Supra. All in good condition.
clownavenger for 70k here in Italy you can get a Ferrari California here in Italy...
of course used and in good condition
PizzocanWasd yeah but Ferrari are kinda boring. The older ones pre 2000 are ok i guess.
You the man!
This reminds me of Elio...I hope they succeed. I really want one.
should have let us hear the exhaust note!
I have a very strong feeling the harley is based more around a bikes setup as in how the clutch bites which is why it was odd for him then the T-rex was based more off of a built shifter cart with a solid 6 speed seq.
Do a review on the Polaris slingshot
can you do a video on the most value/price car(good for student)?
What a fun toy!
70k please
Uh...
+PizzocanWasd haha yep,
I was a bit shocked when I found out.
Engineering Explained Yeah me too, I thought 20k, maybe 30k... for 70 grands you can get an used Ferrari California here in Italy!
If you don't buy a Porsche, etc for this sort of money you have real issues between the ears...
Baerchenization The Ferrari was just what I thought first
What about the Polaris Slingshot? How does that compare?
Jason, if you are reviewing 3-wheel "trikes," do you think you could get your hands on a Polaris Slingshot? It's also a 3-wheel trike that is powered by a single rear wheel and has a good power to weight ratio.
hi, when the exauhst air goes out a turbo, is she fast?
Explain us turbo flutter sound.
(Sorry if you have already explained. If that is the case can someone link it?)
Is it true they used a 3 tyre design so that they don't have to classify it as a car and meet the crash standards, etc as a way to keep the weight down? How is the cornering grip with a single rear tyre? Would it be quick around a circuit?
Hello do you know where I can get an OBD2 performance chip for my Nissan Sentra (2015) 1.6L RHD CVT?
I think I'd rather buy a Caterham or an Ariel Atom. What do you think?
Enjoyed video, and the through review, but 70k?
Any chance you can find an 818 to review?
Can you please do a hybrid car review like Audi A3 Etron. I think it's like BMW i8 but alot more practical.
Every time i see one of these it makes me fall in love with it. But honestly i would never ever spnd that much money for what is essentially a toy. Building one myself is a tempting idea though....
It looks like this is just literally a motorcycle drivetrain with 2 front wheels to accomodate seats - sequential shifter with tall first gear, small, high revving engine, cable throttle, "weird" clutch, single rear drive wheel with no driver aids, except it's 3x the price.
On the other hand, what it does have to its benefit is providing a good driving experience at low speed by using the "light weight, small displacement, less grip" method - kind of like a Crazy Cart.
When watching this I said "hmm... sounds like it's starting to rain outside" till I paused the video. :P
Same case here, i recently drive a motorcycle, as a car guy even driving at 20mph feels very fast !! Also do you have any other shot of 4:21 !! See what you did there !! Nice
No other shot, though some fellow on the side of the road filmed it haha!
Engineering Explained Thought it was ur friend !! Saw the Saabkyle videoo feat you Carthrottle etc !!
One problem with 3 wheels is avoiding bad spots in the road.
+nwmetalbug yeah, one of the roads we were on had some rocks on it, ChrisFix was driving and managed to do a good job avoiding. He hit a few, and they basically just shattered haha.
so how do these compare to the Morgan Three-wheeler?
The Morgan is a classic and well-made, but the Elio wins hands down in price and overall design.
Yeah I'm still excited to see where the Elio goes.
Honest review and enjoy your vids but cannot understand this type of vehicle... they just don't make any sense to me...
I drive for a living. About 100k miles a year and my cargo is about the size of a backpack. I need a small cheap fuel efficient reliable car. I would buy an Elio if they ever make them, but what else are my options? I'm in a scion xa right now and making 35-40mpg. As far as I can tell my only option for better mpg is a prius?
The only other car I know of that makes better mileage is the new Mitsubishi Mirage. I think it gets like 45 mpg on the highway b/c it's only a 3-cylinder. I assume you drive highway miles and not city miles. I hope this helps.
What road is this?
1:00 and 4:04 now imagine that engine in a motorbike where it came from with 1/2 the weight
looks like they also got the gauges from the BMW?
lol those steering motions look like you play a computer race game with your keyboard :D
I think both of these would make awesome E-cars (Bikes?)
A comparison with the Arial Atom will be needed. I would think the Atom is better in just about every way.
Bonjour qui distribue?
I wonder how hard it would be to make asnowmobile out of those.
Where was this shot? This doesn't look like the usual western Oregon..
V13R was on Angeles Crest, T-Rex was near Hoover Dam.
Morgan Three Wheeler next?
I think I'll get the Elio it won't be as fast but at least I could afford it
Wow, that's an insanely priced 3-wheeler. Did they have to test and license it as a car or motorcycle? If it is classed as a car that explains a lot of the price, but if it's a motorcycle, that price is just insane.
Literally clicked on this video thinking it was a One Take
Are the colour changing sunglasses included in the price? If so, what a bargain!
+AwkwardExistence haha nope, they were courteous of EricTheCarGuy (black shades) and BriansMobile1 (white shades). Both awesome fellas.
No helmet in the T-Rex? Is this legal because of the roll cage?
The price tag is insane. Would have expected those to cost around $15k. They appear to be half a step up from a dune buggy.
What was going on with the RPMs in the T-Rex? They were all over the place...
+Shaydon Bodemar probably just me learning the clutch. I only drove it for about 10 minutes haha.
Engineering Explained Gotcha👍 Kinda thought it was some engine knocking, but I guess not.
sick helmet brah
wow i didn't know the t-Rex used the gl1600 engine. now I'm not so suprised that it breaks the back tire...
I like your helmet
Ikr , I wonder if it's custom made to fit him
I hope no one misses the last 35 seconds!
Have you ever tried an Ariel Atom?
Nope, would love to!
go for the v8 if you find one. its just insane. its the most insane "car" youll ever be in. its frightening fast. you wont sleep for a week after you drove it! :D
These things are really cool but I never understood why they're are so expensive. They strap a motorcycle engine to a 3 wheel chassis and that's about it. It should be like a third of the price they're asking.
The reason is written right in the middle of dash in big letters 4:09.
thanks for the review.
I not getting the appeal of a 3 wheel car. They are some in my neighborhood.
You do a lot of engineering explaining. So please explain the whys of a 3 wheel car.
My money would be spent on a Morgan 3 wheeler, wouldn't even have to think about it.
Or you could get two Polaris Slingshots and have over $10000 left instead of getting one of these
have you driven a slingshot though? they look cool, but i hated driving it. Would rather just have a bike
I've heard nothing good about slingshot. In my opinion if you wanted a weekend toy you'd have better luck getting a bike or buying an Atom or Caterham.
Roger J Again, those are more than double the price. Not saying the Slingshot is good, just saying it's a far more affordable three wheeler.
Steven Chabot they still arn't cheap.
Are these those yellow tourist cars I see in some cities?
Honestly the motorcycle-like shifting style kills all the fun.
The concept sure is cool, but the price is 2-3 times of what would make sense with something so simple.
They used to be alot cheaper then this before. Now that BMW is involved they want a % of the sales too. They used to have a Kawasaki 14r engine in them.
4 wheels are too mainstream?
for the price of that i would get a 4c little bit more but not by much
C Québécois en criss ste char là! :)
Why just not get miata
Just get a supersport motorcycle. I got my ZX10R for $12,500 and it has about 200 hp and weighs 425 lbs. it has the same level, if not more practicality, is a lot cheaper, a lot faster and a lot more fun.
please use metric system, at least as subs if not spoken. Most of the world is using it already
This week on "Rich People Toys"
The T-rex's dials are from a BMW touring bike. lol
Ahh, makes sense. It's BMW sourced engine.
Engineering Explained Its probably the most insane engine for a bike. Either that or the 2.3L straight 3 in the Triumph Rocket.
I wonder if the clutch and gearbox were too? if it's a wet clutch you have less to worry about by slipping it at slow speed. And for the gearbox (as long as reverse isn't easy to get to accidentally) there is no problem, you want a higher gear? ok pull that then. You want lower, no problem. That's the beauty of a sequential gearbox it doesn't matter what gear you are in 99% of the time as you only have two choices up or down.
Pre 2013 t-rexes were 1.1L and 1.2L 4cyl engines from Suzuki and kawasaki. Because of low volume sales, they had to buy the entire bike, strip the useful parts and resell the unnecessary parts. Then with the BMW deal, the company has agreed to provide campagna the exact parts they needed. I for one really love the move from an i4 to an i6!
I'll take the T-Rex, like having the cage.
Wait, I'll take a Porsche 718 instead.
So even the T-Rex is considered a fun car, not exactly a daily driver. At least the manual shifter is better designed for the later. Not a bad review overall.
Now drive a Morgan 3 wheeler.
That price is absolutely inexcusably gouging. The price is set that high almost entirety to keep the product a novelty. No reason for that.
I'd just buy a 2ss
Myth: you need a motorcycle license for the t-Rex because it's chain driven.
I've always heard you need a motorcycle license to actually drive one of these.
Andy S Some motorcycles are driven by a shaft and others by a belt. I'm assuming that the classification has to do with the number of wheels. So, this would probably be a motorcycle, especially since it isn't enclosed like the "autocycle."
Ezra Mable , that makes more sense then just the method. More then just the chain I really meant the one wheel. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Andy S Oh, okay. Like, is a motorcycle with the trike mod still a motorcycle since it has two powered wheels in the back? I think "motorized bicycle" when I think of motorcycles. The laws seem rushed and lazy to me.
Ezra Mable, it's definitely a lazy thing lol.
60k?!?! I bet it costs, at most, 25k to build! You can get a decent sports car and some leftover money for gas.
Hey Jason, I've loved your recent videos on Formula e and its really peaked my interest. A video was released recently talking about the different powertrains ( ruclips.net/video/KsCKrixx5Qk/видео.html ). I was hoping you could do a video talking about how these powertrains are different particularly the pros and cons of each teams' set-up and what you think would be the optimal choice. Thanks and keep up the great work!!!
for that price i'll take a ls swapped miata any day
Do you need a motorcycle license to drive these vehicles?
Also: do you have a motorcycle license?
+Brian Rice nope, nope.
To much money, I want one anyway (T Rex).
I subconsciously know what gear I'm in all the time. Never thought I was in another.
58k for a snazzy golf cart
Would love to see a infiniti Q50 Hybrid Review!
Both look like death traps
whoo.....
Do you need a motorcycle license to legally drive one of those?
+6speedguy84 nope! I know I don't have one haha
6speedguy84 I believe the law classifies motorcycles as anything motorized with 2 wheels
6speedguy84 it depends on what state you live
you do need a helmet though
That depends on the state too there is no helmet law in Kansas but there is in Colorado
Damn for the price of that T. rex I'd rather get a hellcat
The price is right for a toy.
New record for being early :o puu.sh/soyUT/adc0ce9bfe.png
(translation of the view counter: Geen weergaven = No views)
#ratrace
you want a fun toy with a BMW engine for that price range? How about an M4 LOL or better yet get an M2 and save yourself $20,000
