Very helpful to break down both sides. If you don’t mind asking, did you ever think of making senior before switching? What track are you hoping to go on (for example controller, VP of FP&A). People normally recommend making up to experienced senior/junior manager before switching to industry to get the best earnings potential and knowledge. In public, some teams can be so small that you never switch supervisors. In public, I feel like there are a lot of events but it tends to be the same people hanging out with same people rather than expanding their network.
I didn’t think too much about making senior. I’m trying to make it to the highest possible level tbh…didn’t really give it too much thought. Yeah, I know it’s best to leave when you make manager in public accounting but I didn’t really like public accounting. I’d rather have a job that I enjoy than one that I didn’t enjoy but might give me a more successful career later on.
Thanks for the informative vid as always! I agree with everything you said.
:)

I see many accountans worked in Big4 then moved into small private firm, maybe private making more? :)
It might be! But I think mostly because there is better work-life-balance in industry compared to public accounting.
Prior to leaving your public accounting job, we’re you performing senior level tasks?
Towards the end of being in public accounting, a little bit. But I left before officially making it to the senior level.
Thanks!
THANK YOU!
I hated time entries 🤯
Yeah, me too!
